Sugar Apple Fairy Tale

Feb 23, 2024

There's being kind and then there's being a doormat and when someone has left you to die twice its far past time to stop being a doormat. These characters make little sense in their reactions. Every female accepts the murderous violent tendencies of every male around them and demands no punishment or judgement.  It's infuriating.  Plays out like a self insert fanfic beyond that.  In the words of happy Gilmore  Dear sugar apple fairy tale,  Everyone in this room is now dumber for having watched it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills

Feb 26, 2023

No sugar coating it. Pedophilia isn't a funny joke and by the end that's what they resort to.  I'm not amused. And I'll even just groan at the incest mom but sniffing prepubescent girl underwear crosses a f@$#ing line. Dude straight up says he wants to seduce a child and they might as well have played a laugh track to it.  Nah. Gonna pass on the implied second season. Hope it never gets made.

Akiba Maid War

It's a mafia drama told through cafe maids. 100% great idea and well executed.  It didn't disappoint in the ending either.  I have no complaints. Watch it.

Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World

Sep 26, 2022

This goes beyond ecchi. It's h3ntai boys.  It's also not a harem except for the last 5 minutes.  I'm willing to forgive the entire slave thing but it tries to act like he has consent and that's just incorrect. Just own up to the fact that it's rap3. Other shows acknowledge it and that's fine. But pretending that groping your new slave is consensual? Cringe bro, just admit you're a sleaze taking advantage of the situation. It's not like the MC was likable anyways. So yeah lots of false advertising and inability to just own what it is. I was hoping for something as fun as interspecies reviewers... See full review

Estab-Life: Great Escape

Sep 3, 2022

Reaches far beyond its station. This seems like a pretty trash show but has something to say about the diversity of sentient life.  That said some elements are dumb as #$@%  Why have the furry character? No point whatsoever. The first episode is the worst showing but establishes the concept at least and juxtaposed the absolute insanity of subsequent episodes.  Overall better than the sum of its parts but deceptively so. By that I mean if you described it to someone it would sound bad.  But watching it... there's a charm that comes out.  Perfect example of a 3 episode rule. If... See full review

Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department

Apr 23, 2022

It's a riff on super sentai shows and their villain organizations. A good one. It also takes a good look at businesses and their practices. It's not any kind of nuanced view but a passable riff on terrible practices. There is no aspect of this show that is stellar but somehow the whole is greater than the parts and it was very enjoyable to experience.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun

Sep 7, 2021

It sets rules for the universe then breaks them with zero explanation while also @$$ pulling new concepts to move the plot along and acting like a basic daytime soap opera with characters reviving from being beyond the grave literally... No this is not a good narrative. It's the modern day equivalent to golden age comics where they come up with new power after new power to add onto superman to make the story move forward. It's insulting really to pass it off as competent. . . . The animation and character design is baller tho. Cute as fu-

Trigun: Badlands Rumble

Jun 26, 2021

It recaptures the Trigun sensation. It evokes that crunchy 90's anime mouth feel. It's not a masterpiece because it isn't meant to be, it has to have the flaws of that day and age to stay true to the source. It's every bit what a trigun movie should be with every pro and con the original had. I loved the original series 20 some years ago. This took me back there and I'm not ashamed to say I could have cried afterwards, to be whisked away, back in time there for 90 precious minutes.

The Day I Became a God

Mar 21, 2021

Delete the comedy tag plz. Massive tonal shift in the second half. Goes from comedy to tragedy in about 1 episode there.  Also we have the worst therapist in existence in the final leg that wants her patients to be entirely dependant on her. That woman would have her license revoked in 3.5 seconds for revealing those notions.  It started off good but quickly diverged into a shit show. Bye Felicia.

Kokkoku: Moment by Moment

Aug 31, 2020

Huh? If you don't like drama or sci fi stay away. If dialog isn't your thing go watch dragon ball z. There is nothing wrong with this show. The characters may be somewhat simple but they follow through, it all makes sense and their actions have impact. The story has a concise and satisfying end and the mystery... Man it starts out inexplicable but the progression is top notch. You understand every concept eventually.  That's superb story telling. I don't know why this isn't rated higher. It's a short but enjoyable ride through a single millisecond of time.

A Certain Magical Index III

Aug 24, 2020

there's no way to understand this without reading light novels first.  That is a failure as an anime medium.  Concepts and characters from previous seasons are fair game.  This pulled new things from nowhere without explaining them.  The first two seasons were predictable but satisfying, but this went off the rails. Skip this. It pains me to say it but after watching everything in the continuum before it this show will only serve to muddle waters and leave you dissatisfied.  By far this was the worst offering this franchise has, even having watched all the previous... And you thought there is never a girl online?

Aug 20, 2020

This show wants to be Love Chunibyo and other delusions but without any of the hard hitting topics. Which is succeeds at losing the hard hitting drama. And fails to keep the comedy as well. Painfully mediocre and depends on fanservice in the later episodes heavily. Had to force myself to finish it in the end. I like the hook as well. Can the group fix the socially broken Ako? No they can't, and the show ends in the same place it started. Why did we bother? It's not even bad, just mediocre and predictable. Bonus points for not winning through the power of love and friendship. We won through... See full review

Frankenstein Family

Jan 19, 2020

No satisfying ending,  cliffhangers on episode 12. It basically says  "Go read the manga" which doesn't constitute an excuse for an anime.  Also logic is thrown out the window for the last two episodes. Characters are thrown into convenient positions with no explanation.  Why is a main character hanging out on this pier during a typhoon?  Shh! Don't question it. It's completely normal to have a nice tea on a pier during a typhoon. And wow he was in the right place at the right time to meet this other character isn't that great?! Also: "the boat is wet... they're... See full review

Doesn't have an end. Cliffhangers at ep12 Also f%&# off with that "her boyfriend will be decided with a bet" nonsense.  It's 2020 and women can choose for themselves. What a nonsensical premise. If she doesn't like a guy why should she be forced to date him?  The bench was the best character. Funniest too.

A Centaur's Life

Oct 13, 2019

I don't care that ecchi is ham fisted in with harder topics and the show tries to juggle both.  It has definite flaws with the first episode and later ones with shoving in characters you've never met.  Despite all that this show has more to say than a dozen of its contemporaries. It has episodes that will make you think and reflect. How many idol trash shows or isekai's actually trigger thought beyond "what happens next?" Or "that was cute" This show is good. %&$@ you fight me.

Boogiepop and Others

Apr 22, 2019

The cast of characters is an interconnected web you'll have to really have to pay attention to in order to keep up.  That being so if you can... hold onto your butt. This show is a ten car pileup of intersecting interests and factions,  always speeding towards a violent and hazardous conclusion.  But damn it's a masterpiece of writing.  Full marks if it took more time to let you keep up with the characters being injected at breakneck speed.

I Couldn't Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job.

Apr 16, 2019

Titties everywhere. Not just ecchi cleavage, like full on uncensored nip all over the place. Episode 3 had me wondering if this was actually hentai porn. First half drags on with no interesting plot points. The second half picks up the slack but not in time to make this worthwhile at all. Tons of PLOT though. Also groping is normalized in utterly ridiculous ways.

A Certain Magical Index Movie: The Miracle of Endymion

Apr 7, 2019

Basically "the Avengers" of anime. Or perhaps a better analogy "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and that is not a compliment. The movie brings new characters out of the woodwork and brings in elements that are quite honesly... unwelcome. This has been a harem, action and slight romance franchise. It didn't need to bring in Idol elements. It's dumb and blunt. Further the english dub suffers from it. It's like playing an un-tuned piano and pretending it is beethoven's 3rd symhpony. Bringing all these characters together though is pretty F#$%ing awesome though despite that. The final half... See full review

A Certain Magical Index II

Apr 7, 2019

Oh crap another mess! The misunderstood ecchi scenarios are way past not being funny at this point. We've seen this gag in this show dozens of times at this point and in other shows on the order of thousands. Please stop the joke is long since stopped being funny of seeing X character naked accidentally. Once again protagonist-kun is the object of everyone's affection and the story at times goes into ridiculous ass-pulls. The show is once again saved by the Accelerator arc and this time it is a rip roaring adventure. Not as good in a character study as the first but every bit as interesting and... See full review

A Certain Scientific Railgun

Apr 7, 2019

There is some unneeded filler but overall it is a solid serious with clear goals and an overarching story that progresses. Unlike its predecessor characters come back and are used to effect. No one is wasted and everyone has a role in the narrative by the end and more than once. The yuri sub plot is awkward and honestly creepy(if a male character pulled this shit there'd be uproar) It's no less creepy in a lesbian setting where the protagonist obviously has no interest! Ignoring that though it is leagues ahead of its predecessor and even index II. Particularly the exploration of a introvert's... See full review

A Certain Magical Index

Apr 7, 2019

What a mess. Keeps adding characters, forgets about most of them after their arcs. And all the females unerringly fall for protagonist-kun who is as bland as they come. Not to mention is just gets more and more nonsensical as it goes on. This season is only saved by the saviour of accelerator who at first glance is the edge-lord of edge-lords. But then has an interesting arc and exploration in the final parts of the show centering around him and his victims. Too bad that juicy nugget is wrapped up in such a mediocre package. I'll be back for more but this price for entry was not satisfying.

No. 6

Jan 2, 2019

This show is in serious need of a fair review. I'm a straight man. I'm no fan of Yaoi content but that doesn't bear much relevance in the overall plot of Have vs have nots and science vs nature. The low reviews put a lot of weight on that fact and in a word it is homophobic. Story wise it's pretty decent. The ending kind of goes off the rails and pulls far more out of its ass than it should though. Animation is good for when it was made although action is sparse here. Sound? I hate turning anime into quasi musicals. It was terrible in that regard for the last half. The OP and ED were forgetable as... See full review

My Love Story!!

Sep 30, 2018

The first six episodes present a compelling tale of non-typical characters and relationships forming. Beyond that though the series goes nowhere and presents nothing of value. Characters never grow and it enters a sitcom zone of entertainment. Which dissapointments me to no end. Perhaps I've gotten used to anime that transcends these predicatable tropes but this show makes no effort to be anything but something you can see coming a mile away. Some people can appreciate this but I am not one of them. Watch the first six and evaluate whether you're enjoying yourself or not. Drop it if you're not having... See full review

Children of the Whales

Feb 25, 2018

As with many series based on a manga... The anime doesn't cover it to the end in 12 episodes. SHOCKER!!!!1 :0 If you've been watching anime as a genre for very long... This is par for the course. Get used to it and grow some thicker skin if this upsets you. What this does do is take you into a unique fantasy world, the likes of which you likely haven't seen in this specific quantity before. It's a good hitchhike that will take you part way to something intriguing. If you're not satisfied with getting partway there that's fine. It's a preference. Mekakucity Actors

Jul 17, 2016

Short simple review It seems anyone not very familiar with the source material will be quite lost watching this show. Entire episodes will leave you wondering what is going on and why. Flashback scenarios come on like a mac truck and it takes a while to even figure out that is what is going on. There's at least one episode that seemingly has no point except to mirror a vocaloid song. The story behind it is intriguing but the method of execution is terribly pretentious at times. Not to mention that episodes don't flow with time and things are presented out of order. It is a challenge to follow. Its... See full review

Himitsu: The Revelation

Jul 17, 2016

Short and simple review based on 1st episode. Can't speak to the entire series but often the first episode is where a lot of effort, planning and budget go into. This fell completely flat on it's face though. It fails to build any kind of suspense and dives straight into resolving any mystery it creates within 120 seconds of the conflict having been introduced. It moves incredibly fast and is supremely predictable. Excellent concept but the execution is one of the most flawed I've ever seen. If it were even mediocre bad I wouldn't be drawn to review it based on a single episode, but this made me laugh... See full review

Short simple review Know the silent hill series? Welcome to the anime version of that for better or worse depending on your point of view. There are some plot holes but hey no one's perfect. Also most of the characters are stereotypes, and there are 30 of them. That being said I enjoyed my stay in sanitized anime silent hill.

The Garden of Sinners Movie 1: Thanatos. (Overlooking View)

Jul 14, 2016

Short simple review. As a movie, no. Just doesn't work. You understand next to nothing by the end especially if you aren't familiar with the world it is set in. As the first episode to a series it is better. But don't approach it from the mindset of being a self contained entity to be viewed standalone. You will be sorely disappointed.

Tokyo Ghoul √A

May 4, 2016

Keeps on adding characters but refuses to let any die. Instead they hang on by threads every time and survive. Keeps on adding plot threads but refuses to close any of them by series end. Some are outright abandoned without explanation. We never see the Danny Trejo looking character from the prison ever again and it isn't explained who he is or why he is important. Nor why they had to fight. Anime logic bends the space time continuum, characters who are running cannot seem to catch up to characters walking slowly as if in some dream state. Scenes are drawn out far too long. We watch a building burning... See full review
