Both deal with a Protagonist struggling with the past and what he used to be to so many people as well as Romance with and realistic comedy along the way that both greatly contribute to how well both of these stories are told.

Both of these shows are about a group of friends dealing with a complicated situation and coming together to pull through it.  They both make you laugh and cry and are extremely deep and heartfelt.  They both deal with young adults growing up as they deal with issues that should be beyond their maturity level, and how they cope with the unfortunate situations they are thrust into.  I finished both shows with the feeling of, "that was a masterpiece," and I don't feel that way often.  If you were moved by one show, you should watch the other.

Both are excellent stories of romance, of remembering and moving betond the past, and of the relationships between people and how they change. If you like/love one, you will like/love the other. But be prepared to be suckerpunched in the feels... I know I was.

These two anime are extremely similar despite having a different main focus, both look into the emotional relationship between two people using different ways to present it. They involve heartwarming stories about someone coming out from mourning and continuing their life, moving on from the past. They focus heavily on this emotion and that drives the story forward and it is certain that some heart strings were intended to be pulled, so I believe if you enjoyed one, maybe check out the other xx

God, where do I begin?!

First of all, the story unravels without rushing anything; although I will admit the buildup of the climax did take a bit too long and the resolution was over too quickly, the bottom line is that the true objective of the goal was clear: a girl died, a boy could see her ghost, and he and his friends have to put her soul to rest. It's a lot more heartwarming than I expected - there's slice-of-life lessons thrown around at the appropriate time and it's really amazing at how much thought and life each character truly has.

This anime touches on grieving, loss, and guilt of having lost a beloved, and not even necessarily in the romantic sense, because as long as you cared for that person, their disappearance will hurt, and Anohana taught me that.

Defintely watch the two animes. Works of art, I loved anohana so much, it really pulls a string or two. And although this may be a movie the anime "Silent Voice" is an amazing movie to end with. IF and only if you manage to watch all three without crying? Then yes you are undoubtly born without a soul.

They also show (if not center around) the loss of a loved one. Both shows include the characters' inner thoughts and feelings, and I think that if you liked either Anohana or YLIA, you'd enjoy watching the other as well

They are both very well-made slice of life choices. They show the character development throughout the entirety of the show. Really help one think differently about the types of friends they have, questioning why people do what they do. Unless revealed it leaves the watcher and the main character on edge curious as to why. It's like these animes really want to leave a mark on the main character and or watcher. They follow the same pattern of a journey within, finding ones place in the world. Along while trying to maintain a certain level of happiness within themselves. I'm babbling but partially right. Just go watch it especially if you have a thing for classical music Your Lie In April will bring the love back out again.

They're both somewhat similar in concept, a heartbreaking story in which characters deal with mental illness. While one may be about bullying, and the other about overcoming things that previously held you back, (At least, that's what I got from it, there are multiple interpretations and messages you can take from Your Lie in April.) the premise of mental health is apparent in both.

These two are fitting to watch if you enjoy or are in the mood for something that will pull at your heartsrings then these are perfect. It should go without saying that they are both good nexts if you've watched one, then you'll surely like the other.

They are both types that explore different sides to growing up and in some ways are the flipped side of the coin with regards to the main characters.

Both are masterpieces at what they do, visually, story-wise and vibrance. Both express colors and emotions in ways most animes can't and can evoke sympathy even in apathetic viewers. Both can really be heavy animes despite what they're portrayed as on the surface and really show the narrow aperture of vision in human beings and how shallow and narrow minded we can be. Both focus on character development and are very coming-of-age stories. Main characters in both casts do have an ample level of trauma, both pre-meditated and conclusive, and again, both of these heavily focus on growth and development. If you want a nice, bittersweet, romantic story with complex relations and a complex world, both of these are really good at their job

Both stories are about music and romance.  The characters have intriguing pasts and both have a great elements of comedy.

Your lie in april seems to be setting up to be a more childhood romance oriented, less serious anime in the same vein as Nodame Cantabille, It uses the same character archtypes, and it seems to be setting up the same kind of classical music focus. Where they differ is that Your lie in april is going for a much more, sparkling flowery rainbow vibe. So unless you object to that, give the other a go.

The stories are similar but the age of the characters are different, which means the personalities are different.

Nodame's plot ended up leaning away from romance and focusing on 'finding one's place in life', spanning several years, while it appears that Your Lie in April is about a shorter period of time and overcomeing one's past, or future...

Nodame Cantabile... Just like this anime, I fell in love with that one as well right off the bat. The music, the story, everything about it. I personally LOVE classical music and my childhood "dream" was to become a classical conductor of sorts for the boston symphony. This anime and it's manga are phenomenal. Nodame is not nearly as sad and the music is better. The story will introduce you to what happens behind the scenes of a symphony orchestra. Its soundtrack is out of this world amazing. They recreated the imperfection of an entire orchestra, which could not have been easy. If you liked the sound in Your lie, you will be enthralled with Nodame.

Your lie also involves piano and features a few interesting music scenes. Be warned that it is a very very sad story. I think the best music is in episodes 2, 18, 21, and 22.

Both Kousei from Your Lie in April and Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile were raised musically and stick to scores while both love interests are free spirits who play how they want with almost no regard for the score. And while I personally think Nodame Cantabile isn't as serious as Your Lie in April, they are both music animes and the main characters do have overlapping qualities.

Also they both show that just a little kindness can go a long way.

Your lie in April is just more "poetic" than Nodame Cantible.

Because of the solid musical foundation in both series. The romantic angle is different, as well as the general feel I would say. Nodame is in my view a lighter series, despite them both being dramas. Your lie in april is more on the bittersweet side throughout. I found the writing and musical knowledge behind both captivating tho, and being a lover of classical music, had immense pleasure of both series.

Both are very similar. The male part is very talented in music. A perfectionist that grew up with it. Both male leads end up re-inspired from the refreshing, talented, and (sometimes haphazard) female part. Both are super cute, though one is WAY sadder than the other. And they are different enough in their own right. I recommend giving both a watch :)

If you like "Your lie in April" then you should watch "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas". Though the latter doesn't have the music. It has the almost same love story and the ending is tragic. :(

The basis of both anime's is very similar from a story point of view. If you watched "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" and found yourself wanting more, then "Your lie in April" is the step up to that. Vice versa, if the show tugged your heart strings, then this film will do it in similar ways. 

Both shows have excellent character development, featuring very strong female protagonists that push the boys to new places in their lives. Both are "love" stories in a sense, but both grow into love and do not feel forced.

They both star a lively, outgoing female lead who is optimistic and lives life to the fullest every day. The girl encourages/teaches the introverted male lead to come out of his shell thus creating not only a romantic connection between the two characters, but a true friendship and soul connection. Both are tragic anime that will have you sobbing by the end.

Similar plots and characters, both are beautiful and emotional at times. Kousei and the main character from IWTEYP are similar in certain ways, and same with the main girls from each. I was thinking of YLIA the whole time I was watching IWTEYP! Love them both.

Similar plot structures and also very similar charcters. While Your Lie In April focuses more on the musical side than the mental side. I want to Eat your Pancreas mainly focuses on the mental side of the dying girl.

Both are tragedies and do really well at painting different characters. Both indue in world building and do have a fair bit of drama. Both follow a love that doesn't end up being fruitful and in both, the unanimous feeling that the female protagonists were going to die were established quite early and didn't just use a robust death such as truck-kun. Both have really complex plots and again... I have to appreciate their beautiful world building and as they're relient on the viewer's sentiment toward the characters, they also maintain a cheetful mood and don't over-rely on this trope. If you want animes that might make you a crying bitch, these 2 are it.

This sudden immersion in a new piano "scene" opens the doors to new friendships and romance and general growing up. If you liked the sense of coming of age wrapped up with the music of either anime, you should definitely try the other! Both also have gorgeous animation and very pretty soundtracks. The characters and their relationships are delightful to watch, but not without drama. They are very similar shows that complement each other well.

I'd have to say between Nodame and Apollon this one is the most alike to Your Life in April. Both about male main characters who have 'sad' pasts that have their lives changed by meeting someone else and subsequently change their music style because of that. Romance is also subtle but present in both of these.

From what I've seen so far, Your Lie in April is going to end up being slightly MORE serious than Apollon, which though it too has its deep moments, ends fairly well and keeps a light hearted vibe. While Apollon seems a little more whimsical as it takes place in a small town near the sea (going to school still involved) without as much emphasis on school life, Your Lie in April seems more modern and sticks it out in the old school setting for the most part.

They both can be serious and some points and extremely lighthearted at others. Both shows feature a MC that is a Pianist who grows through music and friends. While Your Lie in April showcases much more melancholy themes, I feel that the character developments result in similar relationships between the characters. While Kids on the Slope is shorter and more light-hearted, they offered up the same emotions for me at least.

Both make me think of music in a completely different light, as I've never seriously taken up an instrument, but for both series, their craft is their main means of expression. Whether it's to exhibit what they're going through to others or just to help them clear their heads, the amount of passion in their playing is something to appreciate.

While Kids on the Slope is about jazz music and Your lie in April is about classical music, they both are about music and force you to perceive the idea of music in a different way. With that said, Your lie in April is a lot more emotional and suspenseful while Kids on the Slope is easygoing but both are enjoyable.

Kimi no na wa is one of the best anime I watched so far. It has amazing animation and story itself. And as for me, you can basically connect it with Shigatsu wa kimi no uso (your lie in april), which is also a romance anime, the only thing that's different is how the story end because Shigatsu wa kimi no uso end with such a tragic ending. Both anime has a good animation and songs (with different artist, of course). It also focuses on the both hero and heroine's background story. It was beautiful, both of them.

Both of these anime deal with coming of age, and the heart breaking, yet beautiful aspects of soul mates and unrequited love. These two are easily in my top 5 great romance anime of all time. If these two anime dont make you shed at least 1 tear, then you have a heart of stone.

Both hit u right in the feels altho your lie in april realy gets clear once u finished it and think a bit about what u saw while your name is a open story where u get the full feeling of the story while u watch it and afterwards u get another smack in the feels when u think about what u jsut saw and the lessons u an learn from it. Either way both are amazing

Your Lie in April and Your Name. Two of the biggest names in anime, and both are joined together by the beautiful and touching story they offer. Both have joyous moments mixed in with sad ones, all sprinkled throughout a fantastic romance starts to blossom. Both shows have a sort of mystery to them that unfolds down the road, and watching this transition leaves you with several of your own thoughts on your mind. Both are worth watching.

Both animes have an emotionally damaged protagonist struggling to deal with a past that holds them back from enjoying their present and future. Each is surrounded by cute characters that not only help them to find themselves but shed some light on what could otherwise be a very emotionally overwhelming show. Though the visuals in March are more manga inspired in comparison to April's very polished and sophisticated anime style, both are stunning and work perfectly to capture those emotional scenes that are so critical to driving the story and allow the viewer to not only see but feel the psychological struggle of the main character.

So Your Lie in April features a character driven story involving a skill the main protagonist has been brought up with, something I found that March Comes in Like a Lion did so much better (in my opinion). They both feature a psychological look into the main character and progresses the story in a similar way, however, March Comes in Like a Lion expands of the psychological drama slightly more. Hence why this is only a one way rec, if you liked the psychological side of Your Lie in April and like things quite slow then check out March Comes in Like a Lion.

In my opinion, both of the art styles are super beautiful, and so are the stories. Kousei reminds me a lot of Rei, with their looks, personalities, etc. I really do love both of these animes.

The drawing styles are very similar and so are the main characters back storys and personalities. Though your lie in april is much better march comes in like a lion is still a favorite of mine watch it!

Same tasteful slice of life feeling, but a little more happiness and resolution. March Comes in like a Lion gives you those sad moments, but at least allows you to enjoy your attachment to the characters.

Both anime feature main characters who've lost their passion for their talent. The main protagonists each meet a girl who's a break away from the regular monotony and greyness of their lives, and find their world just a little more tolerable. Your Lie In April has a romance swing to it, however, which Sangatsu no Lion lacks. Instead Sangatsu no Lion lives in the melancholy of the main character. Both can have oppressive amounts of melancholy to them at times, but it's more often with Sangatsu no Lion.

Both fit the major theme of "doing your talent because you're good at it, not because you like it anymore".

It's hard to find a show like Clannad that doesn't involve a bit of magic, but Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso actually manages to do just that.  These are not your everyday school life animes.  In each of these shows, a young man leans on his friends and companions for support as he struggles through a variety of extremely difficult situations.  Sometimes they resolve well, and sometimes they don't, but through all of his experiences he grows and learns.  Love and loss are central themes in each show, and they both have heartwarming and heartbreaking moments aplenty.  If you enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions that is not typically present in a normal school life show, you will enjoy both of these.

Both shows develop an extremely strong connection between the viewer and the relationships shared between characters. As well as this the two shows have extremely moving soundtracks, which highlights the impacts that events of the two respective shows have on the viewer. Also both are fantastic.

Both are amazing tear jerkers. They make you happy, they make you sad, they make you angry.

Both series has a rich and deep storyline with amazing characters that you just learn to fall in love with and everything is going so wonderful. Up until everything you ever knew is falling apart. 

They both require tissues but are well worth the watch.

i just finished "Your lie in April" and i have to say WHY DO THE GOOD PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO DIE ??????? ****cry a lot when watching this anime***** its just the same as in clannad, why the heck does the good person have to die???  they were both such great anime's. the only reason i like clannad better is because of the ending. if the ending would've been more like clannad this would be my N°1 anime EEEEVVVEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!

Without spoiling, I will say both shows are like a roller coaster. The only difference being Clannad has a bit more weirdness in it that's supernatural (such as a character disappearing and people forgetting about them) and some other odd things that I can't mention (cause of spoilers). While Your Lie in April's weirdness is all psychologically based where the character is drowning in tragedy, and haunted by a ghost from their past when in actually they're either sitting down freaking out on the inside.

Clannad and Your Lie in April are like the anime versions of The Fault in Our Stars-they're achingly sweet and absolutely heartbreaking.  Despite the sadness, both shows have a bit of humor to them that really adds to the story and the atmosphere.  Watch these if you feel like crying. A lot.

Both focus on a budding pairing and the struggles in building a romance, they both focus heavily on the emotional side. And of course, both include love triangles and drama. They both also feature the main girl with some sort of illness making them slightly weaker than others, and in both this becomes a main point of the development for all the characters. So I believe if you enjoyed one of these anime, check out the other.

They both have a similar setting, a group of friends living the school life. They both have many great things in common. For instance, in both of these animes' there is a group of friends, and they all go to the same high school. Of course that mean there's gonna be a love triangle and drama. But in both of these shows, the main character/s truly know, or come to find out, there is only one person they truely love. They're similar in many aspects and perspectives.

If you liked the romance part of Your Lie in the Summer, it's similar to Golden Time where there's a violent bishoujo that comes into the main character's life but doesn't date the girl right away. They'll eventually fall for each other. It's not about music, but I can see the similarities between the two when I look at the characters and their chemistry. My friend really liked Golden Time as well so I reccommend!

Golden time is a romantic comedy your lie in april is music passion an roamance.  In both of them the scary feeling of loosing someone is present.An other common point would be that there is like a love triangle. Your lie in april is in my opinion much more sentimental than Golden time.

altho they have way diferent plot lines the style of romance is the same and with both of them whenever the two are together you just cant help but smile. (minus the few times that are insanely sad in both of them) but other than those they are both great animes with great plots that are enjoyable to watch.

Both are about a boy who struggles with some sort of emotional/psychological issue and both are able to overcome it through the help of friends (and in particular a girl). They are light-hearted, comical, and fast paced. Both will make you cry at times and both will make you smile.

Both these anime have a very compelling story and whenever I try to compare The two your lie in April would blow golden times away but they both have a certain dark theme to it when both of the Main characters not being able to let go of the past but this is an amazing watch I highly recommend

These anime's are probably one of the most dramatic romance, dramas i've seen when it comes to emotion. These animes both have characters who have to progress and develop through tough times and make it very entertaining to watch.

Golden time will bring you more of a sense of love and Your lie in April will bring more of a sense of emoition. I basically watched these animes one right after the other which probaly wasn't very good on my heart.

I enjoyed both these animes very much and these will go down as some of these most memorable. Both very entertaining.

Both animes deal with mental issues and romance. This is only on the surface from the general theme of both animes. However, why you really might one and the other is because both actually have a lot of breath in the two romantic characters and the struggle for being togther does not revolve around being noticed by their love interest but with a more dramatic internal struggle.

It revolves about highschoolers and both have suffered a trauma. its baisically about how they try to surpass theirtrauma with the help of a friend and love interest and through music. They are both really wholesome and we get to enjoy really good and sentimental music. We also get to see them grow and see how they use thier talents to inspire others.
