Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Over a century ago, mankind was devoured by giant beings of unknown intelligence and origin known as Titans – creatures that eat humans alive indiscriminately and for no apparent reason. The remaining population has managed to survive the last hundred years only by building a multi-walled city capable of keeping the Titans at bay, training military recruits to patrol the perimeter and gather intelligence about their mysterious foe. Eren and Mikasa have lived a relatively peaceful life behind the city's walls, but when a massive Titan appears, smashing the outer barrier and unleashing a wave of terror, their lives are brutally changed forever...

Same concepts, all of the main characters are trapped inside facilities where their lives are dominated by a world that consumes them on the outside. They attempt to flee those worlds and try to combat those forces that try to kill off the main cast.

[Spoiler Kinda?]

If you are caught up in the mangas you can DEFINITELY see a resembolence, even how the monsters transform based on... I’ll just leave it at that.

Piggy7869 Piggy7869 says...

They both have a similar feel in the sense of desperation to survive type of theme. Because of the extreme conditions faced in their worlds, the characters push above and beyond to overcome their circumstances. If you love interesting, dynamic characters, unique plotlines, and sitting on the edge of your seat from the excitment then these are definitley the shows for you. Highly recommend.

This two anime, although they have different settings, they have so many simillarities: people behind walls not knowing what's out there, living in a isolated society, both are fantasy, horror, mystery genres.

Just the first episode is so much alike: people living their normal lives and in the ending of the episode that normal routine they have completely changes because of -----(and spoilers alert for the first episode of the two anime)------ a shocking life-changing revelation and death of a loved one.

Both animes are worth watching if you're a fan of these genres of anime

Both start of in kind of the same way;they’ve got peaceful lives but once they realize something whether if it’s been being lied to their whole lives and ten finding the horrid truth or fully realizing the power of a terrifying race that can wipe them out easily can get you on the edge of your seat. Promised Neverland is more brains than action and If u wanted more action then look no more this series will provide u it as the MC’s goal is to literally kill out all the titans;as he has to watch one kill his mom

Starra Starra says...

Both series deal with three children trying to uncover the truths of their worlds and the dark unpredictabilities that come with that task. Each group must overcome the harsh and myserious natures of reality to achieve their dreams, and suffer the pain of losing loved ones in the process.

The world building, although done at a different pace, is similar. And the overarching themes (entrapment/freedom, the reason why humans are being caged like animals and what, exactly, it is that makes one human in the first place) overlap.

Emma and Eren also have similar qualities in that they want to save everyone, and are never willing to abandon their friends, no matter how dangerous the situation gets.

AnimePixel AnimePixel says...

The main gist and commonality of the two animes are about people being confined into one place, with a wall to ensure they don't escape. The main characters try to find the truth of the outside world and learn the real reason why they are walled in. Both animes have living threats outside of the walls that can bring death to their population. The main three kids try to escape to the outside world, try to fight back the enemies alongside friends to protect the people who need to be saved. The Promised Neverland is a story where three kids that grew up in a place that's supposed to be an "orphanage" had found out what the "orphanage" is really not as happy and peaceful as it seems and made plans for all the kids to escape. While doing so, they overcome arguments, differences, and their own fear of what the future holds. Attack on Titan is about three childhood friends who one; aim to slaughter all titans in the world, two; be able to go outside, and three; protect the population. While doing so, they discover the secret of the titans and of themselves. In my opinion, I feel that Attack on Titan gives watchers more thrill, sophistication, and complexity, The Promised Neverland is more of a show for hopeful vibes and great determination than thrill or sophistication. Attack on Titan I feel is more for an older group of individuals versus The Promised Neverland that mainly aims for younger kids but some, like me, enjoy both. I do highly recommend for both sides as both animes are wonderful works of art and very well made pieces.

The plots in both of the animes are spectacular, Attack on titan hooks you in to the action that takes place and doesn't fail to fill in the information you may have missed with backstories and flashbacks. There is nothing more satifying that everything making sense. The promised neverland is filled with strange twists and plots but the story is very moving overall, the only thing i wish to conclude is the ending which is found out when you watch it.

Differences:

  1. Setting & Plot: Attack on Titan revolves around teenagers and young adults in an action-horror series where humans live inside large towns surrounded by giant stone walls to protect them from terrifying humanoid creatures called Titans. On the other hand, The Promised Neverland is a fantastical, psychological thriller that revolves around children in an orphanage that is later revealed to be a farm, meant to raise human children and sell them to demons to consume.

Fluffs Fluffs says...

Both of these shows have the "dangerous outside world" setting - one is the Abyss and the other is the world outside the gates. Characters in both of these are children who grew up in an orphanage, and set out to explore the world that's been labelled as off-bounds. Music in both of these gives a nice sense of the atmosphere

Lazy2pig Lazy2pig says...

both shows following kids who discover that the world they were living in is much more sinister and dark then it seem to

OnlySix OnlySix says...

These animes are both light hearted and cheery. They have beeming, joyful female main characters who are children. They each bring a smile to your face as you watch them play and plan with their friends. But each of them have a terrible secret they are unaware of. These anime are much darker then they originally seem.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Made in Abyss and The Promised Neverland are both psychological series that feature a small group of children exploring the 'outside world', finding out about what lies beyond the out of bounds. Both feature children who have grown up in an orphanage and have the desire to expand on what they've come to know. So if you liked one of these series, you might want to check out the other.

Jaimefm Jaimefm says...

Both of these animes involve children trying to survive in fantasy worlds.  Both contain very dark themes but are hopeful at the same time.

Starletka Starletka says...

Both try to decieve the viewer with their cutesy characters and nice settings, but they both take place in cruel worlds full of mystery. They have similiar art and share the same, tense atmosphere.

MistLiigh MistLiigh says...

These shows are similar in that both center around children who must solve their own problems in a dangerous world. Both use a similar dissonance between character design and the overall tone of the series, and while the settings may be very different, they both carry a similar atmosphere and tension.

DreamChaser DreamChaser says...

Both shows feature cute, smart, likeable children with close relationships that can be interpreted as romantic or platonic, forced to fend for themselves under horrible circumstances without adults to help them.

Both shows have pros and cons, but either way, you're in for a good time. The Promised Neverland is more focused on the children carefully planning and out-maneuvering their enemies, while I'd say Made in Abyss has the edge in terms of giving you time to get to know each character and creative worldbuilding. I also found Made in Abyss's tragedies more emotionally involving, while The Promised Neverland is more tonally consistent overall. But both have intriguing settings with plenty of mysteries to solve and efficient pacing that whisks you along for plot twist after plot twist.  I'd highly recommend both shows in general, but especially to fans of the other.

Note that Made in Abyss also has some skeevy undertones in its treatment of its child protagonists that The Promised Neverland doesn't, so do be aware of that if you go to watch it.

FoxNEET FoxNEET says...

Both shows feature a very similar female protagonist. They're both kids that posses a incredible level of intelligence and are very skilled for someone their age, they have a cheery and adventurous attitude, they're not afraid of danger and are seen by others as natural born leaders.

Heronwolf Heronwolf says...

Both start out easy going, near childlike show. Makes you question why you are watching it, until you see the first signs of what is actually going on. The perspective is that of children, so its happy go lucky, until the reveal, and both of them start to actually develop into amazing plot. The characters from both will have you enthralled, as well as the worlds they each belong to.

Natsu9999 Natsu9999 says...

They're both a seemingly happy anime with a very twisted turn, both dangerous with interesting art styles as well.

the stories are pretty different but both set around the main female protag who is very young with another protag companion as they try to uncover/find something important to them. (TPN: civilization, MIA: Rikos mother)

both are very good animes and I highly recommend them!

matrixen matrixen says...

Emma, Ray, and Norman (from The Promised Neverland) are very intelligent children that go through difficult, and mature, steps to keep everyone safe in their toxic world filled with demons. Satoru Fujinuma (from ERASED) is also a child that goes through a difficult situation to keep his peers safe from a murderer. In both, a group of youngsters who are confined to their place of living and are not allowed to venture outside the premises uncover the dark secrets behind their seemingly ordinary lives. Similarly mysterious atmosphere dominates while the children are grappling with multiple hazards.

Crabdry Crabdry says...

Both are about children who have no real parental figure in a big place where they are all alone and cannot trust the adults.

The main characters of each show also kinda remind me of each other. Both Emma and Emilyko are very cheery and happy and they are always around people that seem to be less cheery and happy (?)

Anyway, both have the thrill of children trying to escape and being all by themselves.

If you like one, you will most definitely like the other.

KarmicFairy KarmicFairy says...

As the story of Shadow House started to unfold, it reminded me of how The Promised Neverland unfolded. Everything seems calm at first, but as it continues you see more sinister forces at work. Both have children at the heart of it, in isolation and slowly realizing the bigger picture.

juliad275 juliad275 says...

Both deal with children being raised in an environment that is unhuman and where humans are the bottom of the food chain. Both also deal with children trying to figure out the secrets of their environment and how to deal with it.

DanglyBoi DanglyBoi says...

the both have similar settings where both mc are trying to survive and have same mystery element where they have to find the reason for their existence.

In shadow house there is a magical elements where characters have magical power for resistence and they are there to destroy the house.

In neverland characters have no powers they have to rely on science research nd tactics to run away and survive.

ChockkyTheMilk ChockkyTheMilk says...

I'd say that if you like one you'd like the other, espeshily if you like the pshycological(?) horror

Shizukuu Shizukuu says...

Both of them seem kind of similar. There's the kids trying to find out the truth, a way out and the messed up outside world. Both of these anime are well thought and the atmosphere is similar. They're labeled as horror, even though I don't think there's that much horror; they're both really enjoyable to watch.

onlyreree onlyreree says...

both have the horror element and the involvement of children being the main protagonist. Both have twisted truths and great unexpected villains - definitely cousins !

Beth0410 Beth0410 says...

Their lives seem normal but they are actually not allowed to go off the property and cannot trust the adults around them with the secrets they are keeping.

SmellieC SmellieC says...

Both involve kids trying to figure out the dark worlds they find themselves in. It mystery, drama, fantasy.

Astelia Astelia says...

Both stories share a lot of similarities and I personally found both of the very enjoyable: the mysterious atmosphere, the intriguing plot, interesting characters.

Lenachan3ko Lenachan3ko says...

Both shows start out with protagonists who are confined and are unable to leave the place they are in. Both are about the mysteries of the place that they are in and pursuing freedom. Both protagonists are also very cheery and optimistic which increases the morale for the other characters. Definitely a "children escaping death" kind of deal.

Angels of Death

Angels of Death

Most girls that wake up in the home of a serial killer would panic, but not Ray. In fact, her meeting with the killer Zack is actually quite convenient because her only wish is to find a good way to die.

spaceytokito spaceytokito says...

These series both have the same psychological interest.

The purpose in both TPN and Angels of Death is escaping the place they're confined to, and both animes were also simliar in the fact that knowing their allies and their foes was never a certainy. Both animes had interesting plot twists, and were a perfect length to keep entirely invested, although I can't wait for more TPN anime to be made.

Snushy Snushy says...

i feel like these anime's have a very similar vibe. I can't really explain it but they do :)

they both have character's who's main wish is to escape.

mysticnaya mysticnaya says...

SPOILERS!! The two anime, have kind of the same plot. Theyer may not come to see the real world, there is a lot of difrent too, but theyer just a little a like. And both anime stops the same.

Auticee Auticee says...

Both anime showcase young children trapped. The two anime also present the exposure of kids to death, whether it be their own demise or that of a close friend or a family member. I highly recomend watching these two. Although, in some ways similar, they are by far very different.

Timed Timed says...

Both of these anime focus on the Psychological tag. This is helped with the story by having an uncertainty of what or who the enemy is, while giving a clear focus on who is reliably an ally. From that point as the story progresses, it has a plot twist that then takes on the lead of the story for the rest of the series until the ending. Both of these anime have a eerie feel to it with many scenes with the uncertainty of knowing who is and isn't an ally or threat.

AshleyAas AshleyAas says...

They both have to deal with lying and the caring character getting the short end of the stick. They also follow the life of a female child the most. One trying to live and one trying to die, try to figure out which is which.

AnimeBinger123 AnimeBinger123 says...

It has a lot of gore and horror themes. It also has some mystery and can really get you to thinking on what will happen next.

LupaLumen LupaLumen says...

They both have a horror theme, and both have some similarities in plot. The animation style is also similar.

Max4444 Max4444 says...

They're both horror/thriller anime with children trying to escape from a building without dying.

Loempia Loempia says...

They are both very exciting and they have a lot of tension. They also have similar themes, they're both about people trying to escape a place.

DARLING in the FRANXX

DARLING in the FRANXX

Set in the distant future, the land is ruined and humanity establishes the mobile fort city Plantation. Pilots produced inside Plantation live in Mistilteinn, also know as the "birdcage." Children live there knowing nothing of the outside world or the freedom of the sky. Their lives consist of battling to carry out missions. Their enemies are mysterious giant lifeforms known as Kyouryuu, and the children pilot robots called Franxx to face off against them. For the children, riding the Franxx proves their existence. A boy named Hiro is called Code:016, and he was once known as a prodigy. However, he has fallen behind, and his existence seems unnecessary. Not piloting a Franxx is the same as ceasing to exist. One day, a mysterious girl known as "Zero Two" appears before him. Two horns grow out of her head.

This recommendation is a bit if a stretch, but both deal with children and adults as if they are separate species, with the children being treated more as tools than humans. I also felt that the music was slightly similar. 'Darling in the FranXX' certainly isn't as dark, but it does have a certain feeling of gloom, as the world is devoid of emotion

AnimePixel AnimePixel says...

The promise never land is about kids who were raised like live stocks in an orphanage that was not exactly what it seemed to be. The kids were raised to become food for demons and after finding out, they plan to escape. Both main characters face demons who had eaten their loved ones and both want to save what's precious to them. Although Demon slayer gives off more action and adventure than the promised neverland, the promised neverland is a very interesting and entertaining anime with unexpectedness crawling at every corner.

Demon slayer is about a boy whose whole family was killed by a demon and only his sister was spared, but his sister had undergo a transformation into a demon, his job is to now revenge his sister; to kill the ultimate demon that slayed his family and to find a way to turn his sister back into a human. A story about sibling love, character development and many different types of fighting arts, with adventure and the peaceful rest of demons.

Raveena02 Raveena02 says...

Both feature demons eating humans however The promised neverland puts a darker spin on this. They also both have amazing soundtrack and animation.  Both anime will pull on your heart strings however Deamon slayer features a lot more action.
