Story:There's some meat to this story but it wasn't anything to be wholly impressed with. I enjoyed it for it's simplicity and generally well scripted plot. At only 7 eps things move along quickly so it's not something that gives you a chance to get bored with.Animation:What can I say, this was your typical late 80's horrid anime; repetitive, poor congruency, and largely forgettable.Sounds:There wasn't much to the sounds, the music was pretty bad but I didn't pay a lot of attention to it. The sound effects worked, there wasn't anything out of place or in bad taste/form.Characters:Nothing spectacular here... See full review

Xam'd: Lost Memories

Oct 3, 2009

Story/Plot: 9 A great story and well planned out way to tell it. There wasn't anything I didn't truly understand or get annoyed with in the long run. Everything seemed to fit and fall into place at the right time. Only mildly predictable, the kind that makes you feel smart for figuring it out early.Animation: 10 Brilliant quality animations, fluid, great designs, beautiful scenery, and no exaggerated cartoon stuff. This anime reeked of awesome. I could say more but what would be the point?Sounds/Music: 8 Decent sounds, great music... there wasn't much to gripe about here if at all. Music rarely... We Were There

Jan 30, 2011

Aaah, teenage angst at it's worst.... Story: What can I say, I haven't seen a more bland, prepackaged, and overly used subject matter in a while but this pretty much takes the cake. It really doesn't get more basic or over used than this, and sadly, without resorting to major spoilers, I can't really say anything else here. I can say, though, that I've easily seen 10 different manga, 20 other anime titles, and 50 different movies, which have used the same format of which about 80-90% of them did it better. Animation: About the only thing that actually was somewhat decent but had it's own failings to go... See full review

Watamote: No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!

Sep 30, 2013

Story: What story? It was a story? I felt it was a video journal instead, and a very painful one to watch at that. I felt so sorry for her the whole freaking show, it was very hard to finish. Nothing more can I say about it other than it just wasn't my style of entertainment and someone else would more than probably love this show 100%. So please keep in mind regarding my scores that it is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. Animation: This wasn't as bad as I thought it looked to start with, after a while the whole thing grew on me visually. Overall I felt like I was watching a 4 block style... See full review

Uninhabited Planet Survive

May 23, 2010

There's not a lot I want to say about UPS that one couldn't figure out on it's first or second episode. This show was obviously targeted towards younger people, probably the exact age as those portrayed, little wonder. On the surface you have 7 pre-teen to teen-aged kids stranded on a planet filled with hostile flora and fauna. Underneath you get a coming of age and friendship story of some quality. For someone my age, it's wholly forgettable, for someone around their young teen years, could be an awesome anime.Story:It's the future, earth is no longer habitable, humans have populated many other planets in... Tytania

Sep 11, 2011

A show where nothing really is as it seems or should be. Story: On reading the synopsis the show seemed like it had a lot of potential, and indeed after a few eps it was shaping out to be a decent story. Sadly as things progressed, or lack of progression I should say, I found myself bored and confused as to what direction the anime was taking. In the end it just didn't really go anywhere other than to seemingly setup for a second season. Though even if there does end up being a second one I'd more than likely pass on it. The plot line was stagnant at best and haphazard/directionless at... See full review

Toradora!

Oct 11, 2009

Story/Plot:This was surprisingly siimple and straight forward. There wasn't a lot of beating around the bush for the most part. It was cute, I laughed, I teared up, I got annoyed, there was a lot to this show and it was completely unexpected. The flow of the show as good, but it kind of dragged on in a few spots, still nothing major and I barely noticed it.Animation:There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the animation, but it wasn't particularly stunning or exceptional. I don't give points for pink/blue hair... then again, these are minor issues, for the most part the animation was fluid and pleasing... See full review

The Princess and the Pilot

Jul 23, 2012

Yes, another reivew where my Overall score doesn't refelect the actual scoring of the rest. Story: The Princess and the Pauper er Pilot. Cute story, well told over the corse of a few days with mild flashbacks. Sadly, the main reason that I liked this story was also ultimately why I didn't like it... Unfortunately I can't explain why without dropping a major spoiler and that is something I don't do in my reviews. Animation: Nothing I wouldn't expect from an anime from this era, and perhaps that's made me a bit jaded in this regard, still the designs were well done, beautifully presented and in the end... The Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Jan 24, 2011

I wasn't sure how I would feel about a show titled Legend of the Legendary Heroes when I first saw the translated name. I mean how unimaginative can you get? Still what you get is far more than what the title gives you... Story: Firstly, I would like to state that this is a bit more than I would normally give a show that's "incomplete" since it's still got a second season yet to be produced. The story through this 24 episode show isn't done and so on the basis that there is a second season on the way I rated it as high as I would having seen the second half already. Now, onto the actual story's... See full review

The Garden of Words

Jul 27, 2016

So for such a short film at only 45 minutes I've gotta hand it to the writer in the ability to tell a sweet love story as this in so little time. It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't easy to follow but for the most part the anime was well worth the watch. Story: Really short and really low on the depth here due to the length but what was given is stellar work either way. Had the writer been given a full movie's worth of time to develop it further it really would have finished this off. Animation: The real jewel in this title is definitely the environmental artwork. It's obvious with the level of detail and... See full review

The Fruit of Grisaia

Dec 15, 2018

Patricide, suicide, pedophilia, sexual assault, canabalism, sprinkle some blood, gore, and few bewbs and we are only scratching the surface of this show. Seriously, the writers dug deep into humanity's darker side and ran with it for a while, and yet it's packaged in this super sweet looking rom/com with some action. If that's what you're looking for btw, might wana look else where. this one goes into the deep end a few times... consider that fair warning, spoiler free just incase though ;) If you have a high tolerance for such previously mentioned shenanigans, I heartily recomend giving this one a... The Asterisk War (2016)

Dec 6, 2016

How many ways can we mess up a free sequel? Let us count the ways. Story: There is a story here, it just doesn't matter very much. It's really way more about the infrequent and poorly executed fights so in the end they skipped substance for eye candy and failed horribly. Animation: For an "action" anime the fluid colorful style is sure to turn some heads but it clashes horribly with the high tech theme which is often way more ridged. Sound: It has it's moments, the voices aren't totally annoying, the musical scores are enjoyable, and they actually make use of English during one episode... See full review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Mar 3, 2019

How one of my favorite shows of a season became one of my least favorite shows of a season. Let me preface this with I read Slime Reincarnation’s light novel but not it's manga adaptation before watching the anime, and I've since learned that the anime follows the manga way more than the light novel. As such, the characterization differences I found jaring and frankly insulting to my intelligence. Story: It’s not particularly original but it is slightly unique in its concept. Take the lowest (or one of the lowest) tier monster there is and have him become the stupidly OP MC for your story... See full review

Lets just say, this show commited a sin that I will not spoil for those of you actually wanting to see it. Though it grates on my nerves that I can't forcefully enough steer you clear of this show. My only real warning is if you're really into the Disney style story book ending, look elsewhere, you won't find that here. Everything else about this show was average at best, and I'm thinking about the only thing that's made it so popular is bouncing boobies on a scantilly clad tsundere. Bout sums it up... I don't feel like writing up a typical review... this show doesn't deserve one. EDIT: It never fails... See full review

Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-

Nov 11, 2010

Story: There was a story here, I understood it completely... I even predicted how it would proceed, develop, and end almost perfectly. This is not how a story should be. I'm not a fan of mysteries by any stretch of the imagination but not many people read or watch a story they already know whats going to happen... it's boring. I took the time to finish this because I was hopping I would be wrong. Sadly, this time I wasn't. Animation: Average characters designs, rainbow hair colors, over the top hairstyles, yet nice scenery and city scapes, non-uniform character faces (at least a few of them), and... See full review

Sumomomo Momomo

Jan 19, 2011

This anime was a oddity for me. It had the queer ability to make me laugh my ass off while at the same time annoy the hell out of me. Story: To me, the main premise of the show was kinda dry, or in other words just lacked much in the way of substance. Frankly I don't think they were trying to hard here since I believe their main goal was to be funny, thankfully they at the very least achieved that. In the end, they did get kind of serious with it but they didn't try to shed the comedic value that they cultivated from episode 1. If you're looking for a great story, you're not going to find it here, if you... See full review

Just sat down to watch this movie for the second time and loved it just as much!Story:Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy gets propositioned to be fake b/f in front of her family.... well ok so this doesn't sound like your typical love story, that's because it's not. Really what you're getting is a bit of shounen action, comedy relief set on a life or death struggle from a world wide web hacking AI backdrop. The story was quite good, had many twists some predictable, some not, and really just kept me glued to the screen for the whole hour and half it played.Animation:I'd like to say that the animation was... Stellvia of the Universe

Oct 3, 2009

Story/Plot: 8 It was refreshing to find a story not about man vs man, or man vs hostile alien in a space sci-fi anime. I'd give it higher marks if it didn't use the same doom and gloom to all of human kind 3 times in a row but as it stands, this is just a personal taste thing. Over all the story and plot were excellent.Animation: 9 The designs, the fluidity, the over all scope of the show was highly enjoyable. Everything seemed to have a purpose and not just some randomly techy looking junk thrown in for atmosphere. It was highly thought out and it showed. Plus, their attention to space scapes... Soul Eater

Dec 22, 2009

Honestly, I tried to watch this one because it was rated rather highly and people I've heard talk about it had good things to say but frankly, there was only one character that didn't get on my nerves completely and the rest of the show was completely pointless, repetitive, and idiotic. There didn't seem to be any real story to it so I'm frankly bemused as to how it got 50+ eps. Perhaps it did pick up after a while but 6 eps into a show and it couldn't hook me, more over it annoyed me, kinda gives me the impression that the rest of the show isn't going to be worth my time. Shuffle!

Feb 17, 2012

The first time I saw Shuffle! I was enamored of it, several years later after browsing my Netflix options I found they had the show available for streaming and figured what the heck. Several other shows I've found the same way, having watched them again, did stand the test of time and English conversion, will this one follow suit? Sadly, the answer to that question, from my perspective, is not really. Story: Originally I remembered this story as endearing, funny, and interesting to watch. There are really only a few words that can be used to describe SEL, mainly convoluted, and contradictory. I say contradictory because it did a lot of things that didn't mesh well and for the most part I think this was done purposefully. Maybe it was for artistic flair but for me it just got in the way of what could have been a good story.Sadly, I think my review of this title is going to be very much like the title itself, hard to understand, bear with me please.Story:There was a ton of potential here but they came at it from the middle of the plot and made you try to figure out what was going on with... Story/Plot: 5 It was mostly predictable but interesting enough to keep me watching. It's one of those times that predictability is more of a benefit than a hindrance to enjoyment. Scrapped Princess

In my ongoing quest to watch my own top anime list, to see if the shows stand up to the test of time, I decided to pick this little gem of a show and I was glad I did. Story: Very few shows I've seen have the fully contained story in a single season, of those that do very few pull off the feat well. This is among those enjoyable few, then and now. Story is relatively distinct and still straight forward, ranges from ploding along to sudden jumps forward in plot but they don't tease you with information. You are left with a pretty good idea of what's going on way before the main trio is told, not that... See full review

Say "I love you."

Dec 13, 2014

Moral of the story; no one is without their scars, I think? Well, it's a very endearing love story too. Story: A wonderfully paced romance with speckling of comedy but a bit too much drama for my tastes. Which probably means if you're into romance dramas with a little comedy relief you're probably going to love this one. My only real problem with it was the final episode, just felt very forced and almost seemed more of a stumble at the end of a wonderful run. Personal opinion aside, it wasn't anything bad just how they did it which irked me. Animation: Definitely a well drawn and "true to... See full review

This was one very hard to follow story, due to not only a lot of time skipping you are also challenged with timelines being altered almost every episode. More over, often things are left unsaid or unexplained so that the mystery is left for later episodes to explain. It takes a lot of memory and comprehention to keep up, not something everyone can do. Perhaps, in that way, it can be considered a failure as a show. Story: At first glance this sells itself as just another romance story set in Rome, not that there are tons of anime set in Rome but the romance aspect is a dime a dozen. What you get, however, is a very complex network of relationships and back stories to go with just about every support character as well as the 2 mains. One might think this would dilute the story itself with so few episodes to work with but the plot management was top notch. It had such a wonderful flow to it and the progression was never halted in the name of character development, a rare treat. Animation: At first I got a little put... See full review

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

Jan 31, 2017

There are lots of things I liked and disliked about this show and for the most part I really hope it gets a sequil. Mainly I say this because of the massive amount of loose ends just left all over the place. The main protagonist being the biggest glaring issue of them all, more on that later. Story: It's not a new theme, person from our world gets pulled into another one and has to learn how to cope with their new situation, but what's different with this is how he's given no direction to go, no one to curse or thank for bringing him there, at least this is not yet explained. At first it kind of went a story telling in a pulp fiction style, and poorly at that, but thankfully it moved away from this style and continued in a more linear fashion. A perfect example of what happens when Dues Ex Machina runs rampant. Story: I guess there was a story here, but it's disjointed and unfinished nature left more than a little something to be desired. What makes it worse is the fact that it had real potential to be a great anime but fell so short of the mark because it never went anywhere that you're just left with a bitter taste.
