Chained Soldier

Apr 5, 2024

I have to say, the source material is better than this anime adaptation, and it's apparent some corners were cut. That said, the anime still does feature the same solid cast, the same likable waifus like Tenka and Shikoku, and it actually gets better as the episodes go by.

Yuuki by anime protagonist standards is solid. He's fairly stereotypical, but he fits his role well. The anime is definitely a bit toned-down from the manga, so if you're hoping for something very explicit then this isn't it.

The art early on is a bit inconsistent but gets better as the episodes go by. Season 2 has already... See full review

Am I Actually the Strongest?

Sep 18, 2023

My goodness this anime is boring. Boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring. Did I mention it was boring? You know, I'll give it some credit, it's not one of those anime that is good for the first few episodes then goes downhill. No, this was boring from episode 1 and has been boring through episode 6 (where I'm at right now). To be honest even though I'm done through episode 7, I can't really say I've "watched" 6 episodes. More like I've just had it as background fodder and tuned out while occasionally paying attention to see what goes on in the episodes. It's just not interesting enough... See full review

Reign of the Seven Spellblades

Sep 18, 2023

You know what? To be honest, I actually kinda like this. It's a guilty pleasure, with some major inconsistencies, out-of-nowhere antagonists and confusing characters, but nonetheless I've found myself returning to each new episode every Friday.

I think one of the big things that helps it, outside of the decent enough animation, is that both our MC Oliver, and our main heroine Nanao are both interesting enough to where I want to know more about them. We don't know a lot about either, and I don't think we will in season 1. However, when it comes to Nanao, what is her fully backstory? And when it comes... See full review

Liar Liar

Aug 21, 2023

It's a pretty standard cookie cutter action-school anime with the usual tropes. Red hair girl is fiery and secretly intelligent, white hair girl is mysterious and stoic, you have your other heroine who is up front about loving the MC, etc. Like most of these series it's predictable and recycled, but just entertaining enough to keep you from dropping it. I don't really care to go more in depth honestly.

I'm Standing on a Million Lives 2nd Season

Aug 19, 2023

*Spoilers*

Season 2 represents a decent uptick from the mess that was season one. I watched the final 6 episodes in the same day, and one thing I noticed is the writers definitely tried to pull surprises with this season. Oh, and a kid gets beheaded in episode 11. Yikes guys, was that really necessary?

The story is pretty much the same as season one, and the animation is still the same, so I think the most important thing to talk about with this season is our new characters. Glenda (Glen-san) is our main new one, an I have to be honest, I thought initially she was going to be horrendous. The... See full review

The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World

May 28, 2023

The toughest shows to write a review about are those where there is a wide discrepancy between quality and entertainment. If a show is one but not the other, how do you evaluate it? For me, Iceblade is the latest anime to test that question. I found it thoroughly entertaining, completing all 12 episodes in fewer than 3 days. As someone who has stalled on quite a few series, it was nice to see one filled with action, an interesting, if recycled plot, and a decent cast of characters. On the other hand, as I slightly alluded to, the anime itself isn't anything new. I've seen quite a few anime that are... See full review

No-Rin

Sep 14, 2022

Well, I haven't done a full in-depth review for some time now, and I think No-Rin is a good opportunity to get one done at last. No-Rin came out in early-2014, almost 9 years ago. Can you believe 2014 was that long ago? Time is going by fast. Anyways, No-Rin is a comedy, slice of life show, and well, its jokes can be hit or miss. At the same time, I thought some parts of it were solid enough, and I enjoyed the final 2 episodes. They were incredibly silly, but I just couldn't help but smile a bit at the sheer ridiculousness of them.

Story: Kousaku Hata lives in rural farm area, and is a... See full review

Shadows House 2nd Season

Sep 7, 2022

I don't like to write reviews or even short summaries for season 2 and beyond of a series, but I'll type this up really quick and make an exception. Season 2 is just incredibly amazing. It's better in my opinion the season 1 and season 1 was amazing as well. This season has just gotten more and more captivating with every episode, and I love Maryrose's role as sort of an anti-hero. Season 3 can't get here soon enough. After episode 9 had dropped I just had to type this. That was the most fun I've had watching any episode in a long time. Yes I'd recommend both seasons of this.

In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki

Aug 8, 2022

A decent Slice of Life all things told. I came into the series expecting a bit more action, but this is a laid back show that's a bit on the slower side. Let's talk about it some.

So our setting is the Akane Village, an all-girls village comprised of female ninja. In this village, there are usually clans of 3. Our main character is Tsubaki, the leader of Team Dog (all the teams have animal names). Tsubaki is one of the older students in the village and is interested in learning about men. In the village, men are sort of a forbidden topic. You're not allowed to interact with them, but at the same time... See full review

I'm Standing on a Million Lives

Jul 26, 2022

So much product placement. Ok sorry about that, let's make this review quick. It'll be terrible

The main cast is not good. Yotsuya is a bizarre protagonist. He loses his mind after killing a guy and seems to struggle with himself and his decisions. Kusue is forgettable. Apparently she has some sort of disease but that's the only notable thing about her. I have no idea what Yuka's role is. Iu is easily the best of the heroines. Apparently Yotsuya thinks highly of her in the real world (and maybe has a crush on her? I don't know). The game master is interesting, and seems to have a lot more... See full review

World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman

Jul 11, 2022

What a stupid show. I only just completed episode 1, and since there are 12 episodes there's the slimmest of chances that this show may improve, but I highly doubt it. When 10 minutes into your opening episode there's already the brother-sister weird stuff, blatant and I mean blatant fanservice, and one of your main heroines is insuffferable in every way, your show is a failure not even worthy of a full review. And you know what? The anime doesn't even have the ecchi tag listed so I thought none of this  would feature and it would actually be decent. That's why after episode 1 I'm already typing this... Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs

Jul 9, 2022

I forgot to do a review for this one, so this will be quick, and well, I'm not sure what to say. After scoring The Strongest Sage a 5/10, I understand it'll be controversial to give this anime a lower score when most would consider it way better than the former, but I have to be honest: I enjoyed The Strongest Sage a little more than this.

I thought the underdog story was cool. Our MC (Leon) is reincarnated as a background character in the otome game he played before dying. As for the execution, it's whatever. Leon's development to his eventual strength is basically fastforwarded and by episode... See full review

The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest

Jul 9, 2022

*This review contains some spoilers. I highlighted the important parts of the review in bold so you could get through it quicker* this anime is basically Isekai for kids. It's like if PBS decided to make an Isekai that you'd see as part of the Saturday morning cartoons. That's the best I could describe it. This show didn't break any new ground. Considering it's an isekai that's shounen I didn't really expect it to. With that said, a show doesn't have to break new ground for it to be decent or good, though I wouldn't qualify this as good by any stretch. This anime wasn't anything special, but for the... Mob Psycho 100

Jun 17, 2022

We'll make this one brief. This was so much fun. You know, I learned some valuable lessons from this anime, not necessarily because of the material itself. The first is never judge an anime based on its first episode. First impressions are important, but they're not everything. Second, if you're having fun with a series, just admit it. There's no need to over-criticize everything and nit-pick.

This anime was amazing. Buy episode 3 I was hooked. You have an awesome storyline, some awesome fights, some good-timed humor, and everything about this series was executed perfectly. Mob, or Kageyama... See full review

*This review contains spoilers* I highlighted some of the more important points in bold so you could get through the review quicker. Well, it's finally time for another review. Be prepared, this is going to be a long one. You know, this show, and how I felt watching it can't be explained in just a few paragraphs. This show, from an objective standpoint, it's not good. There's unnecessary fanservice, the dialogue, though it does improve later, is not very good, and the anime itself can't decide whether it wants to be episodic or have all the episodes tie together.

But, you know how... See full review

Myriad Colors Phantom World

Jun 2, 2022

I'm not sure what to say here. This is a tough review for me to do. On one had, the premise was interesting, and so were some of the episodes, particularly episode 4. It was just a clever, kind of heartwarming and sad episode altogether. But I was a bit confused towards the end of the series and tuned out a bit for episodes 10 through 12. I can't tell you what happened in those as I was barely paying attention. Episode 10 was boring.

Let's start of with the basics. The animation for this show is colorful. It definitely has good visuals. I also like the scientific intros that provide some definitions... See full review

*Some spoilers* Also, I highlighted some parts of the review bold if you'd like to get through it quicker. I'm not crazy about long reviews myself so I get it, and I apologize as this one will be quite long. Well, this series was about everything I expected it to be. The reason why I started this series in the first place is that other users voted it as similar to Bladedance of Elementers and Absolute Duo, 2 anime that I've seen already. Bladedance was good in my opinion and Absolute Duo was decent enough. For it to be similar to those 2 anime isn't a bad thing then. It does make you feel like you've... See full review

Angel Beats!

May 6, 2022

I liked Angel Beats. It really is an anime that causes you to think about things quite a bit. I'm not going to do a super detailed review just because there already a billion out there and mine will say nothing new, but I will quickly summarize what I liked and didn't like. Kanade, you can't help but sympathize with her. She's ostracized initially because of the belief that she's an angel, and our main character Otonashi proves that this is false. And she can't get close to anyone or else they'll disappear, or at least that's what she believes.

Hitana is great as well. He's that best friend you wish... See full review

Story: Oh my goodness, where to begin? Why is this story such a jumbled mess? Why are the main antogonists the Black Knights for the first 7 episodes later revealed to be allies fighting for the same goal as our protanogists? Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside

Apr 2, 2022

This review contains spoilers: I completed this anime about 2 months ago but forgot to write a review on it. I really enjoyed this series and the lighthearted, easygoing nature of it. Anyways onto the review:

Synopsis: Red (formerly known as Gideon) is well, banished from the party of the Hero. The hero happens to be his sister, and Gideon is seen as the weak link of the group, even though his sister had no say (the hero is not permitted to have any emotions). She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man

Apr 2, 2022

I have seen this show get dragged across the mud for various reasons. I've seen some go as far to say it's the worst anime of Spring 2022. For the reason, I was curious and across 3 days started and completed the series. My conclusion? I don't think it's as bad as some. Don't get me wrong, this series has some major flaws, but it wasn't the trainwreck I anticipated.

Quick Synopsis: Danblf, known as the all powerful "one man army" has lost his sage-like appearance and is now a small girl known as Mira who isn't taken all that seriously. He (or she) now has to not only regain a lost... See full review

Unbreakable Machine-Doll

Mar 9, 2022

*Spoilers* Well, it's time for another review. And this one... well I'll make it a bit shorter than some of the others. Anyways, I don't want to get caught rambling, so let's progress to the actual review.

This show has a number of problems. The main problem is the main heroine is absolutely atrocious. I'm not going to waste my time with that aspect because it's been explained in a number of reviews already. I'll focus more on the other noticable problem. That problem is rushed pacing. This show is horrendously rushed.

So, you can pretty much divide this show into 3 arcs, each of which is 4... See full review

Kemono Michi: Rise Up

Feb 3, 2022

A disclaimer: I have not done a review in a long time, close to a year in fact. For that reason, any prior formatting or criteria scaling I used is not going to be used here. For now, I'm just going to go through the anime a bit and share my persepctive in no particular order. There are also some spoilers

This series is about what'd you'd expect for a Shounen. It's a bit cliche, has recurring gags throughout, some of which work and others of which, well, there was no point to them. From an entertainment perspective you could do worse. I'd rather watch a series that tries to be entertaining and funny... See full review

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

May 18, 2021

I'm going to break my usual review format because I havem't done one in a while, and I want to be more direct. I liked this anime and binge-watched it over about 2 days. I would recommend it.

Okay, okay, I'll go a bit more in depth. The storyline is interesting, particularly thanks to the contrast of our 2 main characters. Ryuu and Urara have good chemistry, though some of the other secondary characters are inconsistent in their role towards the story.

Speaking of inconsistent, I like how a new witch is introduced every episode. It gives something to anticipate for the future episodes... See full review

Dog Days

Jan 15, 2021

It has been a few months since I did a review, and, admittedly, I haven't completed nor gotten to far into many series. However, one series I have completed mostly is Dog Days. Dog Days is, well, it's very random. That can be both a good and bad thing. One of the detriments is that the show can get boring at some points and it will seem as if the episodes last forever. We'll talk about that in the more detailed review below.

Story: Two kingdoms are at war, one, the Biscotti kingdom representing dogs, and the Gallette kingdom representing cats (the food etymology is clever I have to admit). Though... See full review

Assassins Pride

Aug 16, 2020

If I coul pick one word to summarize this show, it's "awkward". Everything about this show is awkward, the dialogue, our main characters, and I'm sure a lot of viewers found this show awkward as well. I'm not going to use my typical review format for this show, nor am I going to give it a detailed review. It's not worth it, and if you don't care to read further, just know this is not a good show. It fails on so many levels. For a show that received a lot of hype before it aired, it really falls flat on its face. I think one of the main problems is the age difference between our characters. Strike the Blood

May 27, 2020

*This review contains spoilers* This anime, well it has some very obvious flaws. For one thing, most of the girls in the series are basic tsunderes that follow the same tropes. The protagonist is nothing special personality wise and is a vampire. That last note leads onto my third point, since he's a vampire, you can guess what that means. That gets played for fanservice to the extreme. There are a few other critiques I have of this series that I'll explain below. I get that from how I'm describing this anime to this point, it'll get a terribly low score of 1 or 2. But I'll give this show some credit, it... See full review

Shironeko Project: Zero Chronicle

May 26, 2020

*This review contains spoilers* I really prepared myself for this anime. I watched the gacha story and read up on the app it was based off of. This series has virtually nothing going for it in terms of momentum here in the Western Hemisphere. For that reason, I was sort of rooting for it to succeed and be that anime that surprises a lot of people with how good it turns out. Unfortunately, after 8 episodes, I can safely say that won't happen.

You know, it can be tough for a series with high expectations to live up to the hype. It often seems like when a series gets to a certain popular, it's natural for us to look for what's wrong with it and point out its flaws. Well, with this series, I've got to give the writers credit. This was fun, and I very much look forward to season 2 when it comes out.
