Now to explain this of what you asked what a example of a romance is in shoujo is that a series that is targeted towards young girls and mostly has themes about love, and idk like relationships, you can say the same thing about shounen romance but i think shounen romances focuses on teasing, male gaze as fanservice, you name it.
as for the idol genre. Idk I haven't seen any so I can't really judge if I haven't seen any of it.
Hey that's me and you man. I sometimes sleep at 10pm then I woke up either 4:30 or a little slightly earlier. I haven't seen any idol anime at all but i do think the idol genre could be entertaining. I really wanna try all genres just to show my fair taste in anime.
mostly a sucker for rom-com, action advneture and romance like genuine romance shoujo.
just to add something that's quite a misconception is that shoujo and shounen are demographics
