Vision of Escaflowne is a difficult title to recommend for due to the fact that it so effectively mixes so many different elements from both shoujo and shounen anime. Because of this, one can easily find anime that matches part of the show, but pinning down a show that matches the entire anime is more than a little difficult. At any rate, Fushigi Yuugi is an almost perfect fit... for part of Escaflowne. Essentially, if your favorite part of Escaflowne was the shoujo melodrama, then Fushigi Yuugi should be a perfect fit. However, if you preferred the mecha action, the absolute insanity of Dilandau or the general feeling of the new world, then this recommendation becomes much less credible. On the other side, if you enjoyed Fushigi Yuugi, then you're almost guaranteed to like *part* of Escaflowne. Either way, I make no guarantees, but the similarities between the two shows are too much to ignore.

Ok, fushigi yuugi was definitely a "girly" show. But thats now why im reccomending escaflowne. While it doesnt have a colorful cast of supporting characters each with different personalities and powers to guard someone, what it does have is good animation, nice fantasy elements, and some nice action mixed in with some pretty decent drama. Which is was fushigi yuugi was for the most part.

Though there are many similarities in the storylines, Vision of Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi aren't necessarily an obvious pair. The atmosphere in Fushigi Yuugi is quite different to Escaflowne's as are the characters. Still, there is much same in animation and themes, so even if it's not certain I WOULD think that a person liking one of these would like the other too.

These two series both feature a Japanese schoolgirl travelling to a mythic world and plot lines based heavily on romance with plenty of action and interesting characters. Fushigi Yuugi's mythic world is based on Chinese mythology, and Escaflowne's is a medieval-steampunk setting. Fushigi Yuugi, while it deals with mature themes like death and rape, generally has a lighter mood than Escaflowne (such as its super-deformed moments) and has a more comic style of art.

Fushigi Yugi and Escaflowne are very similar in the sense that a very pure hearted girl is suddenly sent to another world.  Both Hitomi and Miaka go through similar circumstances such as meeting a two handsome men and choosing between them, they both play huge roles in creating peace in their new worlds, and they miss their former world, family and friends.  The action is very different, but great in both cases, the fate of the world rests on their shoulders, and the love stories are so romantic.

If you loved Van in Escaflowne, you will love Tamahome from Fushigi Yugi (and vice versa).  Enough said!

Although seemingly different on the surface, both stories involve a young girl unexpectedly caught up in a different universe full of magic, with powers of her own that she wasn't even aware of before. Also, both animes involve a love triangle between the girl and 2 guys.

Fushigi Yugi and Escaflowne are very obvious recs for each other. They both share the girl-in-a-strange-land premise, but for two very different situations. The worlds they each travel to are not similar, but the feel of both shows is. If you enjoyed discovering a new land with one of these series- plan a trip with the other!

Girl gets lost in another world, there are quite a few of those animes. But Escaflowne and Juuni Kokki manage to blend different genres into one piece. Escaflowne is a lot more romance/action, where Juuni Kokki is pretty serious and definitely aimed for a more adult audience.

Both of these series involve a Japanese high school girl journeying to a mystic land and taking part in epic struggles there. They are both fairly serious, although Escaflowne features plenty of shoujo romance whereas Junni is more fighting and politics oriented. Escaflowne takes place in a steampunk fantasy world, and Junni in a Chinese-mythology based world. Fans of action and fantasy-adventure, particularly with strong female protagonists, should enjoy both.

If you liked Escaflowne or The Twelve Kingdoms, I'd recommend checking the other one out. Both are somewhat epic in tone, have grand, well-conceived worlds, and involve a female central protagonist who has to discover a lot about herself. However, the big differences are that Twelve Kingdoms is far more character-focused and is more complex in terms of the political and cultural background of its fantasy world. Escaflowne takes a faster pace with romantic overtones... oh, and mecha! Finally, Yoko is more proactive and kick-arse, whilst Hitomi is a sad, passive observer. Other than that, though, if you genuinely want more rich, original fantasy worlds built upon the 'person in a strange world' premise, then either of these will be your next step.

Both shows look at a girl getting stranded in a new fantastical world and her struggle to adapt. Strong characterisation, and some deep political issues attract a more mature viewer.

The front for both Twelve Kingdoms and Escaflowne is the battling and action, however I think people will enjoy the shows for the darker story lying beneath.

Both have very determined and willful protagonists, although Escaflowne adheres much to the shoujo romance genre whereas Yohko is a split between wandering stranger in a strange land, sword woman, and leader.

They both start at with the same "setting" however, and have very interesting worlds. I heard Escaflowne had 12 episodes cut from it while it was on the air, which might explain why the ending started sounding pretty incomprehensible.

Twelve Kingdoms is a compilation of many character's stories, but my favorite is the Imperial Arc concerning Yohko.

A girl suddenly draw into another world... suddenly far away from home and this world is filled with monsters. What would you do? Use your claws? ;) Inuyasha is the story of a half demon who from the moment a girl was brought into his world, was doomed to help her. Just like Van needs to help Hitomi who is also taken to another world against her will. Inuyasha is abit less romantic and dramatic than Escaflowne but still a close match. The only thing that can get boring in Inuyasha is the 100+ eps... its's pretty much the same thing going on all the way. But be sure to atleast watch some of the eps if you liked Escaflowne ^^

If you did like Escaflowne the you should deffently see Inuyasha. both got this girls that travels back in time to a fantasy world. meet the love of her life that will protect her against any evil that will harm her and she gets many new friends. both love stories are very cute and romantic. the boys don't whant to admit that they are in love but you can see it on their faces. and eventually they have no choise but to admit.

The initial resemblences of Escaflowne and Inuyasha are readily noticeable: the characters have similar relationships to one another. But from there, each series takes you to completely different worlds. If you liked Escaflowne, Inuyasha will have a similar emotional impact. But this is about the only thing they have in common, so don't feel like you can see one, and skip the other. BOTH of these series are brilliant, fascinating trips to alternate fantasy universes, and BOTH are Completely Necessary in any real Anime Fan's collection. Inu Yasha holds one of my Highest anime recommendations, for it's wonderful mix of action, comedy, and romance.

In Inuyasha a girl travels back in time, in Escaflowne she travels to another world. It's a pretty obvious connection. Both involve a lot of fighting as well. The biggest difference is that Escaflowne tends to romance, Inuyasha to comedy.

Both Escaflowne and InuYasha are about a young and fairly normal girl who finds herself suddenly caught up in the unbelievable world of magic, with a stubborn man mixed into the mix. Both stories focus on the magic, the girl's struggles to cope, and the love that inevitably blooms from it all.

Both of these series are about a young girl swept into a land of fantasy and wonder. She has the ability to see what others cannot, and uses this ability to aid a boy who is more than what he seems. With a band of fighters to aid them, and love issues causing drama, these are very similar stories. And with Sunrise animating both stories, the feel is quite similar.

I see Escaflowne more of a fantasy version of Full Metal Panic, and not just because both have mecha, but I can even can see the same love-triangle in Escaflowne as in Full Metal Panic. Since escaflowne has less humor than full metal panic, the characters of the escaflowne characters can't be the same as the full metal panic ones. So in order to see this similar triangle: switch the genders of the characters and change the direction of the arrows of the triangle. As a last point: Both series hava a mayor bad guy, though the one in escaflowne is alot more oassive than the one in Full Metal Panic. Whole different seting, though if you liekd the mecha and the onesides love tirangle, check out Escaflowne. If you liked the little comedy in Escaflowne and liked the Mecha. Go for Full Metal Panic

Full Metal Panic is very similar to Escaflowne. A boy and girl look out for one another, while the boy fights the forces of evil in a giant mobile suit battle droid. If you liked the action in Escaflowne, you'll love Full Metal Panic. It's the perfect feel-good action/adventure/romance/comedy anime. FMP is one of my most highly recommended series.

Despite being so different at first sight, Escaflowne and FMP share a lot of similarities. Both have a romantic part, though in FMP it is more comedic. There is also mecha action, and a story with similar elements and build ups. After taking a deeper look into these, the main difference the two series have is that FMP is aimed more at a male audience, while Escaflowne is better for females.

If you enjoy a mix of romance and epic action then both Full Metal Panic! and Escaflowne are for you.  They have strong character development and fast-paced stories.  Also, they both include a healthy mix of drama and mecha battles.  Full Metal Panic! has excellent comedy, while Escaflowne sticks to more it's serious tone and story telling.

Both the protagonists are young girls that find they have some interesting abilities after they run into a man that is more action than romance. With plenty of fighting, romance, and intrigue, these two series compliment each other nicely.

Magical Knights Rayearth and The Vision of Escaflowne both have characters that pulled from the "real" world to a fantasy one. That's a very common theme though, the interesting thing about both series is instead of just being pure fantasy realms, they involve fantasy mecha and other technology like airships. Rayearth is more comedic until the end when it turns quite dark, while Escaflowne is more dark all the way through. That said, if you like fantasy style mecha, both are good choices.

There both about a girl going to another world or girls and they also both have mecha. The is a little different but but there both good. The characters have many similar traits but there both original and are different from other characters in some way. The reason i most think they are both similar is because at some point in both anime i got really annoyed because the characters were cry over love and being so lame. Both characters cried for like 2 episodes and for the frist time i wanted to slap a character for crying over some like love. Over all both anime are very nice and if you like one u will definitely like the other the similarities and differences.

Relena and Hitomi are both normal high school girls who lead a normal life. Suddenly, the male character comes in from nowhere and changes their lives. As Van wants to keep the peace in his world, Heero wants to destroy whomever stands in the way of his mission. As time goes by, the main female characters will change the personalies of the leading male character and guide them to a new world. Anyone who likes an adventurous story with dangers at every turn will like both series.

If you like mecha, you're going to love Escaflowne and Gundam Wing. They are full of action and drama, and have great fights between awesome robots.

Both are short series, but even if they weren't, the action in them won't let you get bored. Enjoy the wings in each series.

Other than the obvious of these two series being mech related. You find yourself compairing the one with the other. The main hero in both series carry the same attitude. As well there is a certain level of honor that is kept between the hero and main villian. In both series you have yourself a perfect blend of suspense, action and a touch of romance.

I would recommend one to the other because they both have mecha battles, and both stories revolved around a war. Furthermore each of these series has points where you are forced to see from other perspectives.

Also, both series have numerous Romantic scenes, and they both have plots to instigate some relationship or break some other relationship or create some conflict, etc... they are plenty of twists in each of them as well, though i will add, that these anime's were, in my opionion, geared for different audiences, I would still recommend one for someone who enjoyed the other

Maybe a bit an unexpected recommendation, but the first series I thought of when thinikng about Escaflowne was without doubt Scrapped princess. Probably due the latter episodes, where dragons appear, similar like excaflowne. The setting of both series is in a fantasy world. If you like "mecha" and fantasy, go for Escaflowne. If you like comedy and fantsay, dont hestitate to check out Scrapped Princess

Both Scrapped Princess and Escaflowne succeed in one thing: You don't want to stop once you've started. These are both filled with mystique and great character interaction and development. The story is intense and there are always things happening and there really aren't any filler episodes. Nice and interresting anime set in a pre-modern era with a lot of feelings in it.

Escaflowne and Scrapped Princess share a similar feeling. Both combine several elements like comedy, adventure, action and even a bit of romance. But the parts that make these two really worthy for a recommendation are the characters and the story telling. When entering the characters and living with them throughout the story you get the same feelings (hope, pain, ...).

Lookin for more excellent mech battles? The great Gundams present a host of mobile suit battles in deep outerspace. If you liked the action in Escaflowne, you may like Gundam Seed also!

While on the surface these two anime may seem very different, under the surface are elements that connect the two together. In many ways both are about the horrors of war, and look at war through the eyes of inexperienced youths (Hitomi and Van in Escaflowne and Kira and co. in SEED). There is also a focus on relationships in both, although I would say that Escaflowne places a greater emphasis on that, and that SEED is focused more on action. To further complicate relationships, both feature a main character struggling with a loved one being on the enemy side. Not to mention that both anime involve mecha battles, but the style indicates the background of the anime (fantasy in Escaflowne, space in SEED). While fans of one may not like the other given the setting and slightly reversed emphasis, giving it a try may produce good results.

Gundam SEED is diffrent from Escaflowne in many ways but simmilar in so many more. They both are mecha but do not just focus on combat and action. They both go deep into charaterization and have charaters that you get attached to. Gundam SEED is focused on science fiction instead Escaflowne which seemed to have much more fantasy. Over all if you enjoyed Escaflowne definitly check out Gundam SEED and vice versa.

Escaflowne and Gundam Seed are similar because they both contain plenty of mecha action without sacrificing character development. Gundam Seed  does have some romance but not as much as Escaflowne. I think that if you enjoy action but still want a good story then you should give this one a try.

Escaflowne and Evangelion feature some pretty messed up characters that can't tell up from down. You'll find yourself constantly asking what's wrong with a few of the characters, but otherwise the action in both keeps the stories rolling.

Do you like crazy people in non traditional mecha? Both of these anime have got that. Actually though, the storylines are somewhat similar in their epic level of scale, emotional connections between characters, and battles for destiny.

Each of these series had very odd characters that were twisted and both incorporated mecha battles into a concept of Armageddon in order to restore everything to a better more perfect design.

Both are fairly slow paced, dramatic, and deep storylines that may cause the viewer to analyze metaphysical concepts of the world

Did someone say plot twists? Look no further than these two animes. Both of these animes have an interesting take on mechas and a rather mind-bending plot. With a heavy dose of emotional issues, the characters are also pretty similar in both animes.

Escaflowne and El-Hazard are anime in which the barriers of a dimension are crossed and the characters are thrown into an unknown world. If you were a fan of one, you would enjoy the other.

If you did like Escaflowne then you should see El Hazard. both series got this travel to another world team. both series conatins magic but Escaflowne got this armor suits thing and lovely wings spredding while El Hazard don't. In Escaflowne there is a girl that has the main character while in El Hazard it is a boy. In Escaflowne it alot more love (a cut little love storie) than there is in El Hazard. they fight more in Escaflowne too then they are doing in El Hazard.

BOth series are aout characters warped into a fantasy world and in both series they are trying to find a way back. THough the main difference between the teo series is that in El Hazard you got more the feeling that you are in a fantasy world, because of talking bug and is more comedy oriented. Escaflowne contains alot more character development, "mecha", though has graphics you'll-need-to-get-used too.
