They have similar stoies. A princess of a small nation comes across a humble yet extremely talented, but looked down upon man. They catch them changing, they fight, they become friends and so on. Both are definitely worth watching, though Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is the better of the two

These might be the first 2 anime in one season where you can alternate epsiodes of each and feel like you've watched one anime. Or it may be possible the female lead has the power travel between alternate universes. These are the most similar animes to each other of all similar animes.

Both feature a futuristic school and a plot with action. Both male main characters are swordsmen and the main female characters have the same personality (tsundere) and set of powers (fire).

They're so similiar that sometimes thy're hard to keep apart so I wouldn't watch them at once.

Like other people have pointed out, these shows are very similar. Main girl with pink hair who uses fire, main guy black haired and your usual protagonist who is looked down upon by the establishment but is actually super strong. Both also have a stoic-ish girl around them (although their roles are different) and eventually (minor spoiler) bring another girl over to their harem who was initially fighting against them somehow. Both anime are based around schools who have to fight duels with other schools or the students fight amongst themselves.

I swear they are the same anime. These anime are so alike and were released at the same time. Spooky. Both have main charachter going to a special school that then meets a powerful girl, howeverhe  is considered weak. Guy then reveals he can power up for a limited amount of time before becoming unconcious after. Both must then participate in school tournament. Basically same thing. (I liked the no Cavalry a little memes better tho)

I really enjoied this anime. I like the fact that they are compeating to reach a goal and to keep a pomise they made. This is something both animes does. There are some romance in the picture wihc makes it cute to watch. Blazenstorm Blazenstorm says...

Well, both anime main characters have as love interest (or main girl if you will) a red haired girl with fire powers, but i would say Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry has a stronger story and character development, it will make you feel the ups and downs of the MC (with some unexpected situations the MC go through), while The Asterisk War has a pretty consinstent story in the sense of being a lighter, predictable plot (it's not bad, don't get me wrong.)

KarmicFairy KarmicFairy says...

From the very first episode, the similarities are overwhelming. It's pratically the same anime.

Crizy Crizy says...

Both of these animes are extremly similar if not the same. Male protagonist followed by a foreign princess, both of these princesses don't get along with the the male protagonist at the beginning, but after a couple of episodes they becomes mates. In Asterisk War as much as Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry the two teenagers use swords and magic and take part to a sort of battle tournament, only difference is in Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry it's 1v1 battles while in Asterisk War it's 2v2 battles. Characters may not be as similar as the stories but they still keep a cuple of common traits. If you like one there's no doubt you'll find the other one pretty good too.

HKBattosai HKBattosai says...

If you liked The Asterisk War or Chivalry of a Failed Knight, you'll probably like the other because they both share a very similar atmosphere and setting. They both feature Swordplay with magical abilites at magical schools. AquamarineGem AquamarineGem says...

The Asterisk War and the Chivalry of A Failed Knight were two extremely similar anime that could coexist in a parallel universe. Both anime aired in the same season and had similarities in terms of character designs, character backgrounds, plots, school settings, etc. Both shows had a school setting where magical arts, and sorcery was a part of the academic curriculum. Both female leads had long reddish hair and specialize in a lot of flashy flame magic spells and techniques. Both anime had a romantic comedy setting and centered around a main couple.

Littlesilverwolf Littlesilverwolf says...

Both has similar setting of battles with swords and magic in school background. The characters in both anime also has similar character design and settings.

RetroBurstGamer RetroBurstGamer says...

I'd say that Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Rakudai Kishi Chivalry) and The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk) are blood-related to each other considering numerous characteristics that are the same:

Magic Academy Setting: In both series, students attend a magical school where they train to become educated and interact with each other by forming friendships.

Weapons and Combat: The students use magical weapons to use powerful skills while competing against each other during the action scenes.

Tournament:  Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Rakudai Kishi Chivalry) and The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk) share the same centering around tournament battles where characters fight off against each other using magic, and this leads to cool sequences.

Overpowered Protagonist: The protagonist in both series is a badass male who has a gratifying sword to combat people with powerful attacks, and he is skilled.

Tsundere: The heroine is a hot-headed tsundere who is the love interest for the protagonist, and is a shared trait in both series

Romance: Romance is a central focus of both anime, the protagonist has a bond with the heroine and interacts with other characters.

Fan Service: Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Rakudai Kishi Chivalry) and The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk) both incorporate fan-service elements to a similar degree including occasional perverted scenes and ecchi-ness situations here.

Comedy: Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Rakudai Kishi Chivalry) and The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk) feature a bit of good comedy adding entertainment.

The most important differences are:

Absence of Sci-Fi Elements in Chivalry: In The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk), futuristic stuff plays a significant role in the series and is also a component of the tournament setting or other things.

Context of Magic: Magic is the central theme of both Chivalry of a Failed Knight (Rakudai Kishi Chivalry) and The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk) where they are integrated into their weapons. However, in The Asterisk War (Gasuken Toshi no Asterisk), students possess super-powered or supernatural-like abilities intertwined with their magic and weapons which makes them look different in this aspect whereas the former mainly utilizes magic.

Overall, I'd say that both series are just simply other versions of each other (with Asterisk being the sci-fi version), and you may enjoy one if you like the other, they are both great if you like badass protagonists, magic, action, and romance.

SaintCovington SaintCovington says...

Both main characters are strong and powerful but vastly underrated because they are evaluated based on tests that note truly reflect their strengths.

Neither is an underdog, wimpy, or weak which is kinda refreshing nowadays.

Also, both come from well known familes but are shunned because they are "powerless" and they both have a powerful younger sister with a HUGE brother complex.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is a bit more Ecchi, though. Not a full on ecchi but it comes close sometimes.

Shiira Shiira says...

Both of the main protagonists are seen as incompetent in the beginning. As the series goes on they both gain recognition and are not seen as a weakling.

Rurushun Rurushun says...

I really liked both of the series and with the magic and the main character being underestimated is just matched up.

But if you really watched the anime for the action and not for the romance I still recommend this anime not as much romance but the fighting scenes in both show bloodshed and everyone is super open, and the lower grades were trying to be shown up what I mean is like the upperclassmen thought they were better then the lowerclassman.

jinxlandon jinxlandon says...

both have magic high schools, awesome action scene, a sister thats in love with the brother, brother with really low magic levels but still is super badass....  i could go on and on, but they're really similar is the thing

The Irregular at Magic High School was a little weird for me, because it pretty much only had the incest thing and..... the incest was a little weird but I know some people dont really care about that.  Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is more romance oriented around the two main characters and the sister is just kinda overprotective.

Best Anime Of 2014..............This anime is super awesome....................

The irregular at magic high school is set in a world where magic exists but instead of using chants and spells, magic users cast spells with their Casting Assistant Device (CAD). The CAD is infused with the user’s Psions (a substance-less thought particle) that activates the device and constructs the magic ritual.

They are the same as on of the reviewers said. But I liked irregular at MHS more, I felt like it was more intriguing. But Chivalry is as close as it gets

20200 20200 says...

These two have almost identical plots, characters, and setting. Although that isn't to say that if you've seen one, you've seen the other. Chivalry has a main character role that Irregular lacks, and this noticibly changes the plot and dynamics.

Oblithian Oblithian says...

Same, same-ish.Both are school magic anime, both have magic competitions, both MCs are inferior in terms of magic power but have special ('irregular') techniques that make them the best. IMHS has cooler battles, but CFK has a more well constructed anime (humour, relationships, etc.).CFK is nice because it is one of the few school anime to actually develop a romantic relationship beyond holding hands. So you don't have an entire season of 'ooh, are they going to end up together?' with no reward.  It also has one or two relatable moments that are either nice or humorous. Both have that 'sister love' thing going on, which is annoying. However, where as IMHS has no real relationships developed and the 'sister love' is more alluded to and dragged out throughout, CFK the MC has no part in it and it is only discussed (with the exception of his sister's introductory episode).

The main character in both of these animes are grossly underestimated. they are a low rank in their school because they lack the requirements in that area, but they make up for it with unbelievable power in another, but its kept hidden

Mistfall Mistfall says...

Both are about main hero on magic high school, being considered low ranking but having awsome power. Both have harem with main hero's sister being in love.Main difference is that CoaFK is more about the hero's struggle with weak worldbuilding, TIaMHS is with better and cohesive worldbuilding but with main hero clearly OP and no true character flaws.

These two animes follow a similar storyline of the really powerful guy who is overlooked by his peers but throughout the series his strengths start to show and he gains recognition among his classmates for what he can really do,

Both shows take place in a school setting and involve otherworldly magic or powers and invest the viewers in the success or failures of the characters.

Because They Both Are Pretty Similar in A Lot of Ways Espically When it Comes To The MC Being Looked Down On But Turns Out To Be The Strongest Person in The Academy

ChiefEugene ChiefEugene says...

Similarities:

- Male Main characters are enrolled in Magic High Schools. The metrics on which their "ratings" are based on (to enter the school) grossly miscalculate their true skill.

- There are Bro-cons in both shows, though Irregular At Magic High School's "Bro-con" definitely goes a bit farther than Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

- Both shows have a posse of around 3 side or main characters tagging along primarily.

- Competitions based on magic are cornerstone in both shows.

Differences:

- Fundamentally one show is Sci-Fi based, and the other is more sword-magic based.

- Not to spoil anything, but the MC in The Irregular at Magic High School has some mysterious backgrounds to him.

- Chivalry of a Failed Knight has a butchered ending, so watch at your own risk. I felt like I watched 10 episodes just to have the story flip you off in the last 2 episodes.

Gundaroes Gundaroes says...

They both have a similar setting - a school where people are taught to use their weapons

The main character seems to be similar - He is the owner of the one different weapon, but he finds ways to adapt to his situation, in order to be the best.(Lilith Bristol's weapon, from Absolute Duo, does not count as, personally, I view her gun as an offensive weapon)

Although both these points are true, I would not say that one is a ripoff of the other. They both have their own well thought out enviroment/world and thier own share of problematic encounters.

TheDevilToufu TheDevilToufu says...

Both anime are almost the same but both have their own way to be interesting. They both uses the same idea of "Blaze", a weapon from your soul. So why not watch both?

lindapearl lindapearl says...

Both anime consist of magical weapons called Blazers and take place in a school. Both anime also consist of a male and female sharing a dorm together. The main female characters, Stella from Chivalry of a Failed Knight and Julie from Absolute Duo, are both view as one of the strongest students in their school. Whereas, the main male characters, Tooru and Ikki, are both considered weak but aim to become stronger and stand on equal grounds with the main female character. There’s also bits of romance between the main female and male characters. If you like one you might like the other.

Ionbooster Ionbooster says...

They may essentially be the same, with a little bit of chage to the "plot" (pun definitely intended), but in this case, it is not necessarily a bad thing. Both of them are excelent anime that I would highly recomend watching, and are both currently the only anime I have rated at a full five stars (which is very difficult as I am a very judgemental person, and while many have gotten 4/5 or 4.5/5, these two really got me interested, and the phrase "hook, line, and sinker" accurately sums up these two for me. The only regret I have is that (as it is for most anime I watch) there is no second season or movie continuation, but I have pretty much gotten used to that (although the thing I hate most is the cliffhangers they leave at the end of a series, I'm looking at you GATE and The Familiar of Zero), and this one did a pretty good job of not leaving a massive cliffhanger at the end that makes you search for that nonexistent continuation, and then crushes you when you find out there is none, and there will never be one.

To protect itself from future foes, the new Kingdom of Atismata began training Drag-Knights to wield ancient mechanical dragons known as Drag-Rides. When Lux Arcadia, former prince of the ruined Empire, sights the new kingdom’s princess, Lisesharte Atismata, naked, she challenges him to a Drag-Ride duel, beginning an odd chain reaction that will expose the dark secrets of both royal families.

The two are very simialr in how they are set up. Both are set in a school with the two main characters meeting through a mistaken hentai incident and the stronger girl challenges the weaker boy only being unable to defeat him. The main story line differs slightly but it has a similar feel and sense of adventure and chivalry.

They are fairly similar. Both are very good shows to watch, if you like one you will definitely like the other. I'm adding this sentence becasue a recommendation requires 100 characters.

The Familiar of Zero

The Familiar of Zero

In a world where magic is a reality, the young Louise is at the bottom of her class. Dubbed "Zero" by her classmates at Tristein Academy (due to her zero success rate for magic), Louise (along with all first year students) was charged with summoning a familiar; and instead of a cute magical creature, the familiar arrived in the form of... Saito Hiraga, a normal Japanese boy who was abruptly teleported from his own world?! Can both Louise and Saito come to terms with their new and complicated "relationship" and (more importantly) help Saito find a way home?

Both main characters are classed as weak, but then turn out to be one of the strongest. Both magic schools and good fighting scenes!

The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc

The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc

Miyuki's classmate Shizuku Kitayama is on her way to study abroad. For magicians, this is normally impossible, since allowing the genes of someone who can use magic outside their home country's borders is tantamount to giving up national secrets. But it's allowed to happen in one case-exchange programs. And that's how Angelina has arrived in Japan from the USNA to study at First High. But it seems she's a part of something much bigger than a simple cultural exchange!

I Recommend this anime as I believe that the Protagonists of both the Series are similar. In Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry aka Chivalry of a failed knight, the Protagonist, "Ikki"  goes through the same pain of being an outcast in his family. The was Ikki was treated was the same as Tatsuya. Tatsuya was Treated as an Unwanted child and got love and support only from his sister Miyuki gave him all the love and support he needed. The same applies in the case of Ikki, Ikki was treated as an unwanted child and only his sister Shizuku accepted him. There was discrimination on both Ikki's side and Tatsuya's side and only their sisters never discriminated against them.

The action and fight scenes on Both the anime are top-notch. I am personally waiting for the next season of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry.

The Asterisk War (2016)

The Asterisk War (2016)

Upon Rikka, the academy-city above water, or what many call the “Asterisk,” students of the six schools prepare for the Festa. These annual comprehensive battle tournaments are held on a worldwide scale and each of the six schools place their hopes in their teams to bring them victory. In the Phoenix Festa (tag-team battle) category, Seidoukan Academy's Ayato Amagiri takes up the challenge along with his partner Julis, the Witch of the Resplendent Flames (Glühen Rose).

  • the way the mc meets the girl and the way they both seem weak at first then get stronger and have powers within them makes both these animes really simular and both animes are really awesome so if you liked chivalry of a failed knight you should watch the asterisk war and if you liked the asterisk war you should watch chivalry of a failed knight.
