Deca-Dence

Mar 28, 2021

The title is world play on Decadence (decay of morals, dignity etc.), Dekkai (Huge) and Dense. Or that's what I think, it could just be a "cool English word" title. If you think that the premise resembles Mortal Engines, don't worry and watch at least the first two episodes, you will find that the story is completely different from what you expected. Deca-Dence is a good example why I prefer original animation work over adaptations, most of the time. There is no filler, the show doesn't waste your time, the show can surprise you in many ways and most importantly: it's original. (As a side note... See full review

Kakushigoto

Mar 28, 2021

Single parent stories are my greatest weakness and Kouji Kumeta's style, both written and drawn is among my absolute favourites. Viewers might think the titular secret to be dumb and they might be put out with some of the antiquated stances on society and people's place in it, especially gender roles. But, if you see the secret for what it is, a silly premise to get the interesting daily life of this father/daughter pair rolling and remember that some of these stances/views on society/people are still relevant in Japan, you'll be able to look past these minor flaws and enjoy a good show.

Quanzhi Gaoshou: Tebie Pian

Broken Mess Glory brought to you by McDonalds. Ba da ba ba baa, This game is a unfun broken mess. (Actual McDonalds product placement included). Remember how Glory was a MMO/ARPG/MOBA hybrid? Joke's on you, it's actually a fighting game now. There is no way there would be Hologram tech this advanced and complex, but no VR games you play with your mind/brain. In a supposed near future China. A professional player chooses random audience members as opponents as part of a planned event? Get the frick out of here! Granblue Fantasy The Animation: Jack O'Lantern

Apr 30, 2018

Halloween cosplay episode. Gran is replaced by Djeeta yet again. But now she is a magician... The group go around the city while it's halloween festival and they end up looking for a boy and finding Lost Jack.   Story: Lost Jack bringing back the spirits of the dead was a nice touch. Animation is as great as the show. Sound is good. Two new characters that get no introductions and "Oh that's right Ferry-chan, you were a ghost".

Granblue Fantasy The Animation

Apr 30, 2018

Might be somewhat generic fantasy, but at least it’s well made generic fantasy. The story is left unfinished, I want to play the PS4 game so bad. Lacks world building/explanation, learning about the different races and magic would have been appreciated, also what exactly was Vyrn? And why could he talk?   Good story, a bit underdeveloped but has potential. Great animation, lot's of flashy fights and not many still images. Sound is good and suits the fantasy setting. Io's voice is pretty annoying. Characters are good, although side characters are quickly forgotten. Gran being made captain... See full review

Batman Ninja

Apr 27, 2018

Finally, The Batman we weebs deserve. The chariot tank at the end was the only funny scene. The character designs were cool, can't wait for the over priced figurines. It's Sengoku period, it has ninjas, it has castles that turn into mechas and they even combine, there are monkeys that form a giant monkey and bats that cover them to form a giant Batman, Batman and Joker shounen yell punch until the color is blown off. Story is good, Batman delivers the smoothest exposition dump explaining they are in Japan, Sengoku period. There's also an actual prophesy of a ninja with bat mask saving Japan. Batman... Tabi Machi Late Show

Apr 19, 2018

Four short episodes, four short stories. Each story deals with goodbye in different way. Ep1: Man leaves to Milano and promises to return. Ep2: A girl tries to be friends with her classmate. Ep3: Yukari meets her friend during Obon, the festival when the dead return (in spirit). Ep4: Old teacher reminisces about all her students and thanks them for being in her life. Animation is crude, but the style is nice. Sound is good. Characters are warm and nice, girls from ep2 are a bit weird, but it's kay. Bonus: Episode 3 broke me pretty bad. Episode 4 nicely tied all the other stories together, by... See full review

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Apr 19, 2018

Large scale earthquake hits Tokyo and stuff hits the fan. Yuuki and Mirai try to get home back to their parents with the help of Mari who is also going home ti her mother and daughter. Fare warnng: You will cry. Yes you will. I too thought that I wouldn't no matter what happened, but then 'it' happened and I cried like a wee baby. Nice story about siblings making their way home after a major earthquake. Good animation, crowds are mostly done with bad cg. Sound is good, especially the hospital scene. ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Specials

Apr 17, 2018

Six short's that have nothing to do with the plot of the show. Instead showcase more mundane daily life of the characters. A nice extension to the show, giving us a look what certain character do, when they are not thinking about a coup. Stories: Jean is forgetfull. Niino loves his bike. Another coup?! No, just a baker making new bread or something. How Acca mascot was decided, also Groshular makes jokes. ABS! Niinos abs work great as fujoshi bait. Oh and he reports over phone or something. Jean and Niino argue about a cake, but it was actually a surprise birthday party for Lotta. Animation is as... See full review

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.

Apr 16, 2018

The visual style is probably the shows strongest point and proves that not everything needs/should be made in the "generic anime" style. But Acca has a good story to tell too, albeit a bit confusing for the 1st half and Acca also has excellent fujoshi bai... I mean characters. The ending was a bit unsatisfying, but probably better that it didn't go the other way. A bit confusing but good conspiracy story. Great animation, not much movement but the style stands out and will be remembered for a long time. Sound is great, lot's of jazzy/groovy tracks. Characters are great, most don't get much... Bungo Stray Dogs 2nd Season

Apr 16, 2018

More Bungou Stray Dogs, pretty much nothing's changed. Jinko = Chinko will never get old. (Weretiger, Pen*s). Interesting decision, having the season start with a flash back 4 years before the events of the 1st season, not nescessarily bad, but not good either. Story: Essentially 2 stories, first 4 episodes is before season 1, the rest after. Great animation. Sound design was good. Characters: The cast is the same, new characters don't get nearly enough screen time nor developement. And now, bonus: Episode 3 has 12 minutes of show before the opening, what is this, Dragon Ball?! Rage of Bahamut: Genesis - Short Stories

Apr 16, 2018

Nice little after story of the boiz visiting theit hometown and going their own way. Kaisar sparring with Jeanne and giving her life advice. Where's the rest? This was not nearly enough, Favaro's and Kaisar's story needs to go on forever. ''kak kak kaa'' But no seriously, more would have been preferable and episode 2 featuring Kaisar but no Favaro is weird. Why would you shaft Golden Boy Favaro like this Cygames? Why?! Story is an extension of the show, nice to see Favaro's mum. Animation is great, sparring scene was cuul. Sound feels like the original. Characters are like they were in the show.

Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

Apr 16, 2018

Leonardo continues his daily life in Salem's Lot and some other characters exist too, but enought of that nonsense, time to cram all the relevant and actually important story into the last 2 episodes. More enjoyable to watch than the first season I suppose, this time each episode focusing more on the inviduals who know Leo and their story, but don't get too exited now, the show likes to forget the characters in the very next episode and fails to give conclusion to the stories it tries to tell. Story: Feels like world building for season 3. And very much like S1, all style and no substance. Oh and hope you... See full review

Samurai 7

Apr 14, 2018

Samurais are cool. Mechas are also cool. Deflecting bullets/lasers is cool. Oh and samurai being equally matched against mechas is also very cool. That is what the production team thought when they decided to adapt 7 Samurai into anime, unfortunately they thought that they also had to transform it into something entirely different. Itching for some samurai action? Watch Sword of the Stranger instead, it's 1h 38 min long and a way better experience and use of your time. What really killed Samurai 7 was the pacing, beginning was super slow and ending felt rushed, otherwise the show had some interesting... See full review

Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time Specials

Apr 14, 2018

Two more stories of Rumi and how Seki kills time. First one immediately breaks the formula, they have camp school and are discovering Seki's dark past 'lolz'. In the second one it has snowed and Seki is playing with snow, but Rumi sees what he is about to do to the adorable snow bunny and decides she has to intervene. Apr 14, 2018

This extra episode has 2 stories. Seki plays with sand, topple the flag is his game of choice and in normal Seki.kun fashion he manages to surprise Rumi with his skills. Seki brings 2 cats to school and Rumi get's jealous and want's to pet at least one, naturally it's not going to be that easy. Everything is pretty much the same as the show proper, but no opening or ending :(

Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time

Apr 13, 2018

Who could have know a show about a boy killing time would be such a... good time killer?! The show is about how Seki kills time during class and how Rumi, sitting next to his seat observes/tries to stop him. Each episode is a separate story, some having continuations later down the show. Seat-kun next to me, yep that's the actual translation. A pretty fun and enjoyable show, interesting format of 8 minutes and 21 episodes. Robo family episodes are teh BEST. Good story, nothing too serious here, just a boy wasting time and a girl next to him. Animation is good, the opening is quite good, having Seki... See full review

Steins;Gate: The Missing Link - Divide By Zero

Apr 12, 2018

Alternative time-line where failing to save Kurisu in the past broke Okabe and he couldn't bring himself to keep trying and failing to save her. More Steins;Gate is always a good thing, but seeing Okabe like this breaks me. If I'm not mistaken, this is a prequel to Steins;Gate 0. Story is great, but we know Okabe would never really give up on Kurisu. Animation captures the motion and feel of the VN while being it's own thing at the same time. Sound is what arguably refines Steins;Gate into the masterpiece it is. Characters truly are the heart and soul of Steins;Gate series.

Steins;Gate: Soumei Eichi no Cognitive Computing

Apr 12, 2018

UPA is a upa with a highly sophisticated A.I. and she/he/it helps the labo members with their daily shenanigans. Story has nothing to do with time travel, instead we get to see some day to day life of the main 'Labo' members. Animation is good, considering these are just "ads". Good sound, again "ads". UPA is a new addition to the cast, wouldn't mind seeing more of her/him/it, but such advanced A.I. doesn't fit the 'Labo' line of gadgets. Sponsored by IBM

Would you be surprised if I told you this dumpster fire was axed? That's right no more episodes coming, but trust me when I say "Good riddance". My advice: Please skip this one, if the makers did then so should the audience. But do Google for pic's and gif's, especially from episode 9 and 10 to see some of the worst animation in quite some time. THE DRAMA IS REAL!!! STORY, or rather some interesting (or not) observations: Kusoki is a god, rules and regulaions don't apply. She can rewrite a Origin story and create new magic, how? We'll never know. Forest of Piano Movie

Apr 10, 2018

Pretty good prologue to Kai and Shuuhei's journey on the path of playing piano professionally, but it's not all about playing piano, there is also friendship/rivalry between the 2 boys, other story elements are only implied (like how Kai's mother most likely works as an escort of sorts). Animation is good and does a fine job in portraying piano playing. Great sound, music is all classical beautiful pieces. Most characters are left on the sidelines, Kai and Shuuhei get a little bit of back story and developement, but Soushiki might have the most fleshed out character.

Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, protect the town edition. The girls are cute and even annoying at times while they go against pretend threathts towards their city. The girls call themselves Colors, Yui being red, Sat donning yellow and Kotoha rocking blue. The show is actually good, not just moe trash or kiddy anime. Lot's of the humor and dialogue is childish, but if nothing else it will atleast make you smile :) Story focuses on the 3 girls running around their town and just being children. Good animation, lot's of cute running. Fitting and energetic sound. Characters are real and lovable.

Kokonotsu hires a part-timer called Hajime Owari, a new Best Girl to add to a cast already brimming with Best Girls.
