Hello dear readers! Since Therik has done an excellent job if trashing ‘To Love Ru’ I will try not to injure his 2008 review. And I hate trashing anime... but this time it is necessary. Hello again, dear readers! Because my views on this anime are the same for both seasons of ‘Gate’, this review will stand for both seasons. First things first, Production Values. —- Video and special effects are terrific, especially well done are the battle sequences. I have waited a very long time, before reviewing “Cat Planet Cuties”,... but now I think it is time. Other reviewers It is time to properly slam some of the critics to this show. Hello folks! I have to say, that this anime surprised me. But what surprised me more, is the comments from people I don't know... who have no means of being charmed ... unless the story contains gore, unreasonable amounts of murder, and excessive sexual references. I have nothing against any of the above, in watching anime... after all, most of it is made from somebody's imagination, and some people have no sense of reality. Hello folks! Welcome to our talk about "The Rising of the Shield Hero" This is a great adventure, and pushes all the buttons for a 'dense story'. All the characters have a back story. Events have development (I know this stuff is not liked by young viewers), but this story has so many elements, that confusion will result unless the viewer understands everyrhing. I am 69 years old. I can see thru different lenses. This anime is not made for older teens. The entire effort is intended for younger teens who wish to be presented with some of the same things that happen in their own life. When we only look at things, through only one set of lenses, the view presented by others can escape us. We lose an opportunity to be charmed by another World presented by others. Teasing Master Tekagi-San... Is a masterpiece, but only for those of us who see beyond what is on the film. For those of you who don't understand this show... wait, you will. I have completed rewatching this anime, and I will be rewatching the second season. I watched this anime (very early on) when it was brand new <grin>! Most of the tropes (God help me, I hate that word) for this kind of anime have been short-circuited; in order to produce an unusual story of adventure, combat, and love (both platonic and romantic). I’ll just go ahead and say it... ... many viewers did NOT understand this anime. 1). This anime is a spoof (not to be taken too seriously). I hate the word ‘trope’ but I’m forced to use it in this case, to get past many of the problems described by other viewers. For me, story is everything. This anime doesn’t have a good one. I don’t like trashing an anime story but this story is so infantile that I cannot stomach it. So I have dropped it at episode-4.

This anime is a clear romp, done entirely for fun! There are times, when shows like this hit the mark... it’s light, easy to watch, at times funny, and always entertaining. The fantasy elements are clearly in evidence, and all of it are placed in a highschool in modern times. Bodacious Space Pirates Don’t trust ‘thatanimesnob’, he is bluntly quite wrong on this anime. —— This anime stands as a high point in anime, both in story-telling in the grand manner, but also in massively entertaining production values. Another ... is a good story with a fatal flaw. The author succeeds in producing a suspense thiller, much better than most. This anime is NOT a lot of things: it is not an action adventure.  It does not contain an over-powered main character. it does not contain a love story, no suggestion of romance of any kind. NOW UPDATED! This review is placed here after watching only the first episode. This first episode, while quite good, is very very rushed. The amount of information dumped on the viewer is so great that younger viewers might be quite confused. The information in this episode, is so important that it should have required 2-2.5 episodes. For our hero, complete surrender after only a couple of hours, is unthinkable. Unlike some reviewers, I rather liked this anime. it tends to be a bit corny at times, at other times excessively romantic. At the same time, there is no denying the simple pleasure of a story with a strong moral set of themes, that absolutely speaks louder than words. Anos Voldigoad is a bit arogant seeming, but that does not reduce his love of his fellows, and respect for his friends and relatives. ’Nagatoro’ is huge surprise! And it’s a good surprise. While the story is at times spotty, the basic thrusts are spot on. What we have here, described in spades, is a housecat that chooses her human, and then insists on training him to be a better person. And Nagatoro is a force of nature, irrepressible.
