The theme of a long, onerous curse, resting on one or more families or clans, plays an important part in the stories of both Ayashi no Ceres and Red Garden. Furthermore, in both anime there are characters caught between conflicting obligations imposed by kin or curse.

Red Garden and Mai-Hime are two dramas that masquerade as action series. Each focuses on a group of characters all but forced into fighting foes they are told little about, and eventually become as pawns in a larger plot. Both series pays a good deal of attention to each of its characters, who in both shows wind up facing impossible dilemmas towards the end. Red Garden is certainly more down-to-earth compared to Mai-Hime's explosive powers and attempts at comedy, but that's the only major difference separating these two shows. If you're a fan of one, the second should make for a very good choice.

In the present day, Saiga Tatsumi (a former war photographer) has been hired to investigate a secret club for the rich named the Roppongi Club, but he soon discovers secrets much darker than he’d ever imagined. With the help of a exploited goddess named Kagura, Saiga now possesses the power to kill by simply taking a photograph; but can he stay alive long enough to save her from her captors?

I seem to be one of a dying breed that loves GONZO productions. Both Red Garden and Speed Grapher remind my why I love them so much.

The story is very deep and meaningful, with action interspersed between the two. The fight scenes are good to watch, but its the relationships and struggles the characters go through that make these some of my favourite shows.

Glass Maiden

Glass Maiden

In Diver City, there are reports of young women disappearing; furthermore, certain women have been found dead - their bodies turned to glass. When S&A Detective Agency is tasked to secure and deliver a 'package', they instead discover a mysterious woman known as HW-9 - but she's no normal woman. HW-9 is able to maintain a temperature above fifty degrees Celsius, and delivers an electrical shock to any man who tries to touch her. S&A's contract rapidly changes from "secure and deliver" to "protect and investigate". Can they find out who 'HW-9' is, as well as the secret behind the disappearances and the glass women?

Both are about a group of women with mysterious powers, forced to fight against their will, and trying to overcome the past.  The feel of both of these series is that of a stab at noir, with limited success.  The main reason the two series remind me of each other, however, is the jazzy soundtrack, so if you liked one or the other, check the other one out!

Zombie-Loan

Zombie-Loan

Michiru has an unusual ability: she can see a dark ring around a person's neck that signifies their time to die. However, she suppressed her powers once she "saw" the deaths of her parents – until now. After accidentally seeing rings around the necks of two boys in her school, it seems that Michiru's powers are back for good. The two are zombies who are working for the secret loan office known as Zombie-Loan, and they need Michiru's help to find other zombies – those with dark black rings around their necks. Though Michiru initially refuses, due to a series of events it seems she has no choice but to comply...

Through accidental circumstances the main characters are dead and are brought back "alive" for the sole purpose of fighting zombie monsters. Both animes start off at a school, but as things progress they seem to spend less and less time there. Zombie Loan has more comedy and is generally more light hearted, while Red Garden is more on the serious side. But both have teenagers fighting zombies with inhuman abilities

Both Red Garden and Witch Hunter Robin are about high school aged girls dealing with supernatural situations.  Also, both the girls in Red Garden and Robin in Witch Hunter Robin are somewhat forced into their situations and must over obstacles put in their way.  Both anime have pretty good action and I'm sure fans of Red Garden will enjoy Witch Hunter Robin and vice versa.

Strong but femanine characters, decent overall storylines, they are series that I believe both men and women can enjoy with action, mystery and a bit of romance/sexual tension keeping them going at a good pace. They compliment eachother pretty well, both delving into supernatural/monster elements like vampires and demons while having a strong overall story with intriguing situations that (For the most part) don't feel overused and predictable.

Both are cerebral horror set in contemporary times, and deal with common tropes associated with teenage drama.
