Vampire Hunter D is very much a parallel to Blood the Last Vampire since they are both about hunting vampires, or evil demons at least. Of course D uses a sweet ass sword as well.

Anyone who has been watching anime for a while have come across Vampire hunter D. It has a splendid animation quality that blows your mind away and the music is rich and perfect for such an anime. tought this is not why it is beeing recomended. The story line is the one of the greatest you can come across.

ndymin ndymin says...

Vampire Hunder D is another great Vampire anime. It's not nearly as good as Blood, or movies like Akira, but any anime fan who's into vampires should prolly watch it anyway. It's entertaining at the very least, and I would recommend it to someone who liked Blood: The Last Vampire.

Vampires, blood and killing. Is that what you want? then this one is the right one for you. Vampire Hunter D and Blood are very similar. But Vampire even got abit of a love story in it.

MaximusThrax MaximusThrax says...

Blood and Vampire Hunter D are both grim, bloody, action-oriented vampire killing sagas. D is set in a dark gothic world of the far future where humanity struggles to survive amidst a sea of evil supernatural creatures, and Blood takes place on a high school in a US airbase in Japan in the mid 20th century. Both series should be appealing to those who like dark horror action.

Akuma Akuma says...

So, Blood: The Last Vampire left you wanting more? Not to worry, there are tons of excellent vampire animes to choose from. And Vampire Hunter D is just about as good as it gets. Maidens in distress, vile Vampire lords terrorizing civilians. Vampire Hunter D is the perfect vampire movie.

ItachiSarutobi ItachiSarutobi says...

Blood The Last Vampire takes place in the Vietnam War Era. Saya, the last vampire, is sent in by her government to investigate a mysterious killing. They both have a relatively simple plot, the fighting scenes are insanely bloody, and they take gore to a different level. So if you're looking for a good bloody action vampire movie you just found one!

athina athina says...

Blood: The Last Vampire and Vampire Hunter D both involve very violent vampire slaying obviously. If you liked one, you will enjoy the other; they have the same concept and lots of violence.

dunkyrok dunkyrok says...

Dark, bloodthirsty and gruesome - Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The Last Vampire are two vamp films that really stand out for me as among the best in the genre. Although the animation styles do naturally differ, both films work off a story involving the hunting of dark creatures by lead characters that are much more than they first appear to be, sharing more in common with their enemies than is evident at first glance. They both work in a similar way too - silent but efficient, with only a hint of human emotion - and the stories also both give the impression that there is something much bigger going on that is only hinted at here in the movies. This richness of plot also allowed for subsequent anime productions of both.

Kyuutai Kyuutai says...

The first reason is for example existence the same race of characters: vampires. Both series offer spectators the many scenes of the fight where is full of beautiful blood. I think every people who like great characters, they will be watch "Vampire Hunter D".

Felipe18713 Felipe18713 says...

Both feature dhampirs seeking out and destroying creatures of the night, mostly vampires or vampire-like creatures, but some other monsters along the way as well. Both feature some nice gory elements and nothing's funner than seeing someone dominate something with a katana/sword!

n00bl3t n00bl3t says...

Vampire Hunter D provides the audience with an experienced vampire-hunting vampire doing what he does best. The same could be said of Blood The Last Vampire, excepting the change of gender in the protagonist. The animations style is rather different, but both still create the sombre mood required for the story. With both protagonists wielding swords, hunting creatures of the night with lots of blood being spilled and still managing to maintain some humanity, it is hard to see why you would not like one if you liked the other.

SadisticTendencies SadisticTendencies says...

Naturally both movies are about vampires, but they also boast animation that was incredibly good by the time of their respective releases. The two protagonists are lonely and independent.

Hellsing

Hellsing

In present day England, a war is being fought. The average citizen does not notice, but vampires are running rampant among the populace, and it's up to the Hellsing organization to contain the bloodsucker threat, using even their own weapons against them. Alucard, a vampire himself, is the best agent the organization has to offer, answering only to Integra Hellsing herself. No one knows much about this mysterious figure fighting against the occult, but things starts to change after he “recruits” a new agent to the establishment...

Vampires, blood and killing. Is that what you want? Hellsing and Blood are really close thought I personally liked the story in Hellsing better. But I guess that's because it's a series and not a 45 min long OVA ;)

nextolast nextolast says...

the hunting of vampires in hellsing, and vampire esque things in blood, by, you guessed it, a vampire in both case. Give both a nice dark gothy kindof atmosphere and a somwhat retiscent main character and you can see why you should watch both

miaka miaka says...

If you did like Blood: the last vampire then you should see Hellsing. both settings are dark. the Blood: the last vampire their is a girl that have the main character and in helsing it is a guy. In Hellsing they are fighting with guns but in Blood: the last vampire she slayes the monsters with a sword.

NekoRocket NekoRocket says...

Humans don't seem to want to recognize the darkness in the world. that's why it's up to vampires to protect us? Sad but true, Alucard and Saya are both creatures of the night out to vanquish evil and protect humanity. Bloody yet satisfying, Hellsing is a wittier twist on the story Blood:the last vampire offers.

Akuma Akuma says...

Alucard is the ultimate badass Vampire. His powers are limitless, and his binding contract with the Hellsing organization makes him the most power weapon known to man. This zombie-smashing, vampire-bashing anime is loaded with action and violence, and is a must-see for vampire/anime fans.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

So you like vampires? Then take a look at the best vampires serie there is! Though it is more realistic in Blood (strength, not story), Hellsing does his best in bringing you the utmost power of true vampires. Must see !

RG RG says...

I for one would regard Saya as a female Alucard. Both seem rather coldblooded to me . . .

DarkOnistar DarkOnistar says...

I believe that Hellsing and Blood have very similar elements in them, for one they both have vampire main characters. Also if you're looking for a different way of fighting, both anime series involve a lot of fighting and violence; however their methods of fighting are quite different, from close combat to gun fighting.

I would also wonder what it'd be like if both series crashed into each other as a cross-over, as they are so alike.

sugarhigh823 sugarhigh823 says...

both Hellsing and Blood the Last Vampire are about vampires, but the similarities don't end there. Both have a darker tone that focuses a lot on the action scenes which are both exciting and bloody.

yuujin yuujin says...

A main difference between these two anime is that in "Hellsing" the main fighter against vampires is a guy and in "Blood" it's a girl. In other ways the plot remains the same - one good vampire is fighting a bunch of mindless bad vampires. If you like action, lots of red and black colors in the background, and also spilled blood, you'll like both of these anime.

gazmiller gazmiller says...

Blood is an incredibly dark movie. Its blend of 2D/3D animation has given the creators a lot of freedom to experiment with light and shadow. Hellsing's animation has the same techniques involved and it works well, and the anime also has a very sinister mood to it. Neither anime stray far from anger, horror and revenge. If you like horror and fantasy then both will surely tick all of the boxes.

NekoRocket NekoRocket says...

This may seem a little too obvious, but destroying other bloodsuckers is the life's goal of the main characters in Bloodlust and Blood. Each represents a nobler breed of their lineage, protecting the human race against the greater darkness without. Graphic and beautifully animated, sure to satisfy.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Though Vampire Hunter D has a heavier plot, both Vampire Hunter D and Blood share the same purpose: kill those bad vampires running amock !

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

Both anime deal with silent vampire/demon hunters who actually share blood-ties to vampires. Of course this brings an inherent conflict to both the personalities of Saya and D as they go about their job. The plots are equally simple but entertaining, and move at a similar fast pace. The level of gore in one is easily matched by the other. Vampire Hunter D has a more sci-fi/western setting whilst Blood is fixed in today's world, but they both still pull off a similarly atmospheric and dark look, with sophisticated, powerful action thrown in the mix.

Kyuutai Kyuutai says...

Both series tell history about the same race: vampires. They have great scenes of the fights and pretty lines. An additional advantage are interesting, accessory characters. I think, that all people liking dark, blood and want to see good story, they must watch "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust".

Menchi Menchi says...

Everyone loves vampires! Especially those kind of vampires that are somehow... different. Both Vampire Hunter D and Blood the Last Vampire are dark, mysterious and still unlike other vampire-related anime. Two vampire who hunt vampires/monsters: not a new, but still interesting idea.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

While Vampire Hunter D seems to be a classic around the anime world, the story takes on a familiar theme in Blood the Last Vampire.  Both series involve an excellent storyline incorporating action and fighting, not to mention vampires!  The mysterious worlds in which these characters are forced to live is an amazing thing to behold, both series will leave you captivated.

Blood: The Last Vampire is one of the heartiest, realistic anime movies around. So, if you're looking for a movie of the same callibur, with brilliant animation style, and dark, moody atmosphere, Jin Roh tops the list. It's not a vampire movie, but it is loaded with tactical action and violence, nonetheless. This IS one of my most highly recommended movies.

nextolast nextolast says...

Not really that much similarty in topic between jinroh and blood, but you just cant get enough of the organic/dark atmosphere provided by both. Both also suffer from the trajick shortfall of being too short to fully explore what sould be really really richly rewarding worlds (blood more so for shortness, but oh well) but if this did not bother you then you are goood to go. The secret society thing that is operatingin these really works for me, so there you go.

hurin hurin says...

These are very dark anime with a protagonist who is a monster (one literally, one metaphorically) and masquerades as a human being.

There are a few but very well-made action scenes. Blood has better visuals but Jin-Roh is superiour in its storytelling.

Witch Hunter Robin, while not about vampires, had the same beauty and intrigue that Blood did, for me. Both are dark, and about huntings of sorts. Blood is a lot bloodier (conveniently) also.

NekoRocket NekoRocket says...

Both Blood and WHR focus on a female recruited to fight others with similar powers and abilities. While Blood is a gorier take on the theme, both of these series have dark overtones and very moody, beautiful music. The animation is gorgeous in each, and the character designs are very well-done.

ironfrost ironfrost says...

Both Blood and the first half of Witch Hunter Robin are about characters with supernatural powers hunting down other supernatural beings that would harm humanity, with a suspenseful hunt building up to an exciting showdown.

Merryberry Merryberry says...

With a female lead who is part of an organisations designated to killing those who are the same as them, it is obvious to see why having watched either you'd be interested in the other. Both WHR and Blood deal with the supernatural side of society and the exploration of a character who has to deal with them through their line of work.

Claymore

Claymore

In times of olde, humans live in constant fear of demons known as yoma. These vicious creatures can take the appearance and memories of humans they have devoured, thus blending into society as they freely feast on human flesh. The key to stopping the yoma lies with the tolerated yet feared Claymores - women who are half-demon, half-human, and fully fated to become the demons that they hunt. Meanwhile, in a village, the young Raki has been banished; his only crime was losing his family to the yoma. Raki is drawn to a Claymore named Clare, and together their journey begins. While Clare fights the yoma plaguing the land, can Raki help her in her struggle to retain her humanity?

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

If you like atmospheric demon-horror with good characterisation and good plot as well as the fantastic action sequences, then these two are well matched. Saya and Clare both have internal struggles to resolve and both are silent, rational killers with depth beyond their sword-wielding skills. The animation in both anime is also excellent, with distinctive, detailed styles. Also, there should be a definite gore warning on both.

RaptorClaw RaptorClaw says...

Both Blood and Claymore have heroines with unique abilities, fighting and slashing demons. These girls have to fight monsters outside and inside alike, as part of them wants to join the monsters in their bloodshed. The only thing keeping them together are their friends.

KiraRin KiraRin says...

If, like me, you enjoy a good horror romp, packed full with demons, fighting and bucketfuls of blood, I think you will enjoy both Claymore and Blood: TLV.

Both fronted by a very strong (both physically and mentally), beautiful female lead, their story is immortalised in some beautiful animation with the promise of a second series for more action.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Claymore and Blood the Last Vampire each revolve around demons.  The series are dark and twisted following the struggles of the main characters as they are exiled from the people around them.

Another great show about a female main character who causes lots of gore to the 'bad guys'. She uses a gun instead of a sword however. Very good movie!

NekoRocket NekoRocket says...

Brutally violent and disturbingly real, Kite and Blood share the primary theme of a female protagonist being sent in by another authority to remove threats to humanity.

SadisticTendencies SadisticTendencies says...

Kite and Blood the Last Vampire are both very short stories that feature plenty of violence as well as two female protagonists who slaughter their opponents without much hesitation. Both storylines are very dark and ominous, and while Kite is on the more explicit (aka "Border-line Hentai) side of things, they remain pretty similar to each other. Recommended for people who enjoyed one of them, and for those of you who do not wish to waste much time.

Like brutal and bloody, but badass action scenes?  Step right up as monsters fight monsters on the sly at the behest of secret organizations in Blood: tLV and Hellsing Ultimate.  Alternative (occult spins on) history plays an important part in both pieces, as the shadow of war looms large over all the action.  Hellsing has a far more developed plot than Blood, but if you liked the badass protagonist, fight scenes, and alt-history elements of one, you'll probably enjoy the other.

Blood is a subdued, subtle, and disturbing anime, but if you liked the style of vampire conflict portrayed, then you may enjoy Devil May Cry's demon analogue.

Both of these anime involve protagonists that hunt their own kind, dishing out well animated punishment with extra helpings of blood and dismemberment. But Devil May Cry is episodic and has cartoony and humorous elements, while Blood the Last Vampire is a short film dense with action-horror. They both are worth watching for fans of dark anime.
