I think it's totally unfair to call Kasuga "useless". She didn't accomplish much, but she did a lot more of worth the other female characters. Not to mention, her worth as a character is not derived solely from her ability- she's got a wonderful personality and she's cute and beautiful! And her relationship with Kenshin is fabulous.
And then of course in the games, which is the original source material, she's a BAMF. But I guess not many people here have played them which is understandable. Not trying to be a hipster here, sorry.
