These manga are not very similar in terms of plot, but rather the protagonist of each reminded me of the other. Both have unusal red hair and a bright personality that draws others torwards them. They also both have a high and mighty goal and enough stubbornness to freeze anyone who tries to get in their way. If you liked the feel of either of these main characters, check the other one out. You might just like it.;)

Smugkkat Smugkkat says...

I agree, the plot itself is kind of different, but it gives of the same feeling as AKATSUKI NO YONA :)

They both have similar lead character, a strong female lead that doesn't give up easily and is willing to fight for what is right!

They're both shoujo manga with romance elements. Red hair is important to storyline. Both are historical. The lead females are both resourceful and cool.

Both have protagonists with unusual red hair who are self-sufficient and competent, yet kind and amiable. The plots are different but the romances in both are super heart warming!

Strong, caring, and awesome female characters with royal relations. Light tone and cute romance

Kairad999 Kairad999 says...

I am unsure of where the "disagree" button is but I felt as if I needed to add this.

Although both female mains have red hair and go through so exile, the delivery of feminine power is sqewed in Yona of the Dawn. Yona, the main character, is CONSTANTLY being saved from foes by the 5 (#check) other male characters. Yes, she picks up a bow and arrow, and yes, she heals plenty of citizens with her caring ways, but, she has never once reached the end of a goal by herself before. She is always aided by the other dragons. Every arc ends with her being rescued in one way or another. In Akagami, on the other hand, is strong in a more subtle way. She does not pick up a bow but rather herbs. SHE exemplifies true power and strength. You don't need to fight a king who killed your father to be strong, you just need to step out of your comfort zone and accomplish things your own way. By. Yourself.

Yona, unfortunately, does not do this as well as female lead in Akagami (her name escapes me). She is an extremely powerful character who has gone through some stuff, but her power, in my opinion, falls short of the female in Akagami because of her dependence on the male characters.

They are both placed in a medivial setting, both main leads are red-headed girls, and they have one or a few love interests. Both are absolutely enjoyable!

Both display strong-willed characters and the protagonist goes through hardships within their love life.

Lucysky Lucysky says...

Both contain strong, independent female protagonists (with red hair) who are forced to leave their homes and loveable secondary characters that help and support them. They deal greatly with political issues and problems behind castle walls and royalty. Both romance series where the romance is definitely there but there is more that just that going on. And, of course that are both fantastic.

Well, both are red haired and both female characters go through an adventure where they meet and change people; So pretty similar and both great

ReareShootingstar ReareShootingstar says...

i started to read both around the same time because firstly booth settings seemed to be historical and both female leads were red haired.

both have the main characters start to slowly become more independant and head strong. with developing their own strong opinions and dreams they want to achieve.

whereas yona is more focused on her own tragedy at first but starts to realise she has to change for her to be able to protect the people she cherishes, shirayuki is more someone who tries to find her own place while trying to help others with her vast knowledge.

The romance in both is amazing and so great that you will definetly love it and the other characters are so brilliant and cool and funny and adorable and cute that you will binge it in one go!!!

Akatsuki no Yona is definitely my favorite manga of all times, but Light and Shadow's Edna reminded me a bit of Yona. Both are strong female leads with beautiful eyes. These ladies are from noble birth and know how to devise strategies and how and do everything in their power to protect the things and people they care about. If you like one, big chance you'll also like the other!

Lupa Lupa says...

Both feature a strong female lead from the former royal family who is in hiding after the throne is usurped during a rebellion. These characters seem weak at the beginning, but are eventually shown to be very confident and strong, with great leadership skills. Both are well-loved by their followers. The setting for both stories is in an imaginary, "historical" kingdom, with plenty of policies intrigue to move the plot along.

Both these mangas are in historical Japan with the protaganist becoming an exiled princess after their parent was murdered. Both stories have a lot of character development for these princesses as they grow up and learn how to be a proper ruler that can make the right decisions for their country. The princesses both have a male companion they have known for years that helps the princesses along the way and creates romance. The plots are pretty similar, but the characters are different. If you liked one of these, you should give the other a try

If you like Joou no Hana or Akatsuki no Yona you will most likely like the other as well because both are stories about royalty and in both the princesses are put in difficult and life threatening situations. Finally, both have that sort of love triangle thing going for them.

MystixWolf MystixWolf says...

In both Joou no Hana and Yona of the Dawn, the main characters, they were sadly forced into adulthood much sooner than planned. Each story carries a tale of two remarkable young women who strive to bring forth justice to not only themselves but for those around them, As they both feel that they were wronged (in one way or another) and try to prove that they are not the little girls that were carelessly tosses aside.

Both stories are great for coming-of-age for young women and speak to the hearts of maidens alike. Of course they also feature badass "sidekicks" that are always there to aid them when they need them.

Both stories are about female leads with a royal background that have their lives turned upside down by betrayal and struggle to survive whilst hiding who they are.

Gileen Gileen says...

Though I personally prefer Cheng Ge Xing there many major similarities in the two plots

  1. MC is a princess
  2. who is escapes her kingdom because of succession wars ( they are also both assumed dead initially)
  3. And is ultimately betrayed by a man that they trusted
  4. MC is a badass lady who is intelligent and don't need no man - Chang ge more so than Yona
  5. love interest is a pretty boy manly man who is very cute when they blush

revivehxh revivehxh says...

Both the female leads are former princesses who are in some way or other forced to leave their palace/castle and life as royalty. Romance is subtle in the beginning as it is not the main plotline but develops slowly and naturally throughout the story.

Differences:

Yona of the Dawn:

- definitely more lighthearted than Chang Ge Xing

- has more comedic & romance themes from the start of the story

- Yona seems kinda helpless from the beginning but keep reading!!! her character development is one of the things I love about this manga; you see her grow stronger because of the trials she goes through

- reverse harem vibes

- story is more about becoming stronger to protect others vs. to enact revenge

Chang Ge Xing:

- FL is pretty much badass from the start

- story is heavily centered around revenge

(I've only barely started this one but I've read up to the latest chapter of Yona of the Dawn so I don't know a ton about Chang Ge Xing yet in comparison)

Setsuu Setsuu says...

Centers around a female protagonist who embarks on a journey after being driven out by a relative after murdering their parents in a coup d'etat in seemingly cold blood. Both stories have VERY similar plotting as well as character development. Both MCs meet unique and extraordinary characters along the way who may or may not necessarily be good allies... More importantly, the plot is so intricately complex and intertwined that it provides a nearly clean narrative as the story progresses. As a bonus, the romance is an important element to the advancement of the plot but does not overshadow the action and fighting within the story. All in all, if you have read Akatsuki no Yona, then Chang Ge Xing is a MUST read!!!

The heroic legend of Arslan and Yona of the Dawn share the same basic plot: both are about a crown prince/princess who has to search for allies to succeed in retrieving their rightful place as king/queen. There is also emphasis on their growth as characters who will become rulers. Apart from that both manga contain action scenes, with the most prominent fighters a couple of "overpowered" sidekicks.

First both are about waiting for this one person to be reincarnated, in NG Life our main is waiting for his one lover and in Yona the dragons were waiting for the King to be reincarnated. They also had aspects of drama and each moment makes you want to read more. Both are stories about royalty trying to solve the social problems of the realm. Both are technically harem, but is obvious who is the one who will be choosen ate the end.
