Both are isekai that focus on a mage guenius that got reincarnated to a noble family. In both stories the MC gets his own harem.

Both are overworked white collar gets reincarnated as a boy in fantasy world. The MCs are practically the same: plain, boring, and OP. The isekai works only as a transportation method of MC to new world, not much after.

Mistfall Mistfall says...

Both shows are Isekai where main hero is OP magician. In both they somewhat struggle with new world mentality and are dragged to politics due to their powers.

IzumiSam99 IzumiSam99 says...

Both animes have strong OP main characters, in fact, the MC is so overpowered after getting isekaied that side characters become irrelevant and yet The storyline remains captivating.

Both are set in a magic world.

Maincharacters are overpowered and do not hide the fact.

They both find a way to take an already over-loaded genre (Isekai), and give a little depth to it. While there is no herm in Wiseman's Grand Child, they do share a lot in common. I just hope they both get a 2nd season.

BOTH ARE ISEKAI GENRE WITH OP MC IF IT IS IN YOUR TASTE ANF THEY HAVE THEIR COUNTERPARTS WELL WRITTEN BUT TO BE SAID THEY HAVE ONLY ONE SEASON SO I THINK IT WILL BE BEST FOR NEWCOMERS IN ISEKAI GENRE

MidnightLace MidnightLace says...

  • Both MCs are taken from our world and brought to a world filled with magic and monsters.
  • Both are overpowered and they are one of, if not, the best magicians in their world.
  • The MCs are bad at reading social cues, and tend to misunderstand/be misunderstood because of their high magical aptitude.
  • Both have a group of loyal and amazing people around them, which provide hilarious comedic moments.
  • Both have a somewhat similar social status, between noble and common, but never truly born into nobility.

Reasons you might like In Another World With My Smartphone...

TheSupremeOne TheSupremeOne says...

These two animes are pretty similar. The protagonist of In Another world with my Smartphone dies in the real world after being accidentally killed by God. Then the God reincarnates him to another world of magic. In Wise Man's Grandchild the protagonist too dies in a road accident. Unlike the first one he reincarnates in a magical world as a child. Soon after they make friends and relationship with the residents there. They both hold tremendous amount of proficiency in magic. They also have affinity in all sorts of magical elements.

Crua9 Crua9 says...

Both shows are similar in how someone is brought to another world after death. And the other world had some mid evil setting with kings. Both didn't have moderen tech like cars. And both the person brought knowledge with them from their other world.

The difference is Wise Man's actually treats the gifted stuff as a possible danger, and not everyone really gets along. While the Smartphone show kinda doesn't take itself all that seriously, and things like war isn't really talked about or shown.

It should be noted that Smartphone show has a bunch of lolis around the main person, where everyone in the Wise Man is his age or older.

Pandas2004 Pandas2004 says...

They are both great anime's with an overpowered male mc. The main characters have no trouble solving problems, and are great with their magic. Anyone who likes thragic genre, will love these.

AnimeKing200 AnimeKing200 says...

Both are kinda magical, well Wise Man's Grandchild def is, but the other one is kinda, not too much like "OMG INCREDIBLE" magic, but it's still really good & there is magic, interesting plot too, recommend!

BriceRoyale BriceRoyale says...

Have you rececntly realized that you may be Isekai Trash? Don't worry me too!

Of the recent Isekai's, I believe that Ernesti's personality, mentaility, and general outlook of the world feels most similar to Shin's. Both shows do set up the stage for some kind of vilain that may be a thorn in main-OP-protagkun's side, but it never feels like there is any danger in the process.

The main characters of each show also have similar sets of relationships between close friends and members of the upper class that usually just serve to portray how dense our protaggonists are.

As far as the long-term state of the stories post-show (manga and LN), Kenja no Mago develops into a more mature story with a few more questionable themes while Knights and Magic continues down a similar trajectory.

irb0red irb0red says...

Isekai where the main characters are OP because they still kind of remember their previous lives

MrFad MrFad says...

The main character in this anime is very smart person who can make something amazing that make them over power and the story is not only fun but also easy to understand.

foltor foltor says...

"Isekai in name only." In both of these series, the MC dies in modern Japan and is reincarnated into a human baby in a fantasy world with only limited memories of their former life. If you'd just started in the fantasy world and said the MC had a natural intuitive genius for the sciences, it wouldn't make a difference to the plot. The fact that this kid is 'actually from a different world' is irrelevant and a waste of time.

So the MC goes forth with his grasp of the sciences to become an OP prodigy, revolutionizing the art of magic and/or magitech, gaining boon companions and love interests, and fending off threats to the kingdom.

Knight's & Magic is mostly mecha focused and gets abit into the engineering and materials science of the fantasy world. Wise Man's Grandchild is darker in theme and deals with more stereotypical fantasy wizardry.

ChrisJudge ChrisJudge says...

It has the same overpowered MC feeling that wise man's grandchild does and ernesti always makes everyone else's brains just fizzle just like Shin does in Wise Man's Grandchild

Queen209 Queen209 says...

In both animes the main character is reincarnated in a word of magic and is overpowered from a young age. They both make friends that accompany them on their journey to save the world. They both help the king in defeating the nation's threats. They both surprise everyone with their magic that is out of this world. Both have similar comedies.

Whilst in Knights and Magic the main character is calm about everything, in Wise Man's Grandchild, the main character is completely dense.

Both animes are really fun to watch and keeps you laughing your ass off.

Btigger38 Btigger38 says...

this is a similar story to wiseman's grandchild except for the fact that this was more about  using infused mechs with magic.

Mistfall Mistfall says...

Both stories are power fantasies. In both stories the main hero use his knowledge from this world to use magic more effectively in fantasy world.

These two animes are pretty similar. The protagonist of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime dies in the real world after being stabbed by a criminal. In Wise Man's Grandchild the protagonist too dies in a road accident. They both reincarnate in another world where magic exists. Soon after they make friends and relationship with the residents there. They both hold tremendous amount of proficiency in magic.

Hellburn Hellburn says...

First of all they hay the same premise: character, okay in real life, dies and gets reborn in new universe;Second would be the fact that the main character seems OverPowered at the beginning of the series, although things change in the future (slime later, gradchild earlier);Third is the ideea that the main character does not believe himself to be as OP as others perceive him to be;4'th - while the story revolves arround the main character, at least untill "...Grandchild" 5th pisode, he does not seem to be the one moving the world arround (dunno about further);5'th reason would be that they are both fun to watch, relaxing and intriguing in the Isekai genre.

alp2va alp2va says...

Haven't seen much of Wise Man's Grandchild yet, but already it reminds me so much of Slime. Both involve a nobody reincarnated into a fantasy world and becoming overpowered. Both also involve a storyline that has quite a bit of mystery to it. Both even have their fair share of comedic and lighter moments to round out the action. I will admit that Slime is the better show, but I've been enjoying Wise Man's Grandchild so far and hope it stays good like Slime did
