The very similar style of humor displayed in each of these shows would almost gurantee a fan of one enjoying the other. If you enjoyed one of these slice of life titles then give the other a whirl and laugh as these young girls make the ordinary into something worth watching.

Nicknames Nicknames says...

It's undeniable that both of them are identical since their casts are pretty much alike and they focus on the different things that happen in their life, turning any mundane events into hilarious, over-the-top situations. If you liked one and you're craving for more random comedy go ahead and check the other. You won't be dissapointed!

Sonderwolf Sonderwolf says...

Azumanga Diaoh and Nichijou are twins in spirit, sharing similarities that make them both personal favorites of mine and common recommendations in the "watch one when you're feeling nostalgic for the other" category.

Both series are about a group of girls trying to make the most of their high school experience, and include super-intelligent elementary schoolers who add an element of innocence which helps to define each series by its cuteness more than anything else.

Both series also contain elements of humor based in the fantastical, from Osaka's daydreams to the young Professor's continual "upgrades" to Nano's form. If you enjoyed this style of humor in one series, you'll certainly have just as much fun with it in the other.

Most importantly, however, both series have a light, carefree, slice-of-life quality about them -- without being shy about delving into the personalities, backstories, and emotions of their characters. While you're given a huge helping of comedy with a generous topping of adorable, you get to connect to the characters and sympathize with their troubles, too. It's a quality that takes a series from a fun time-waster up to the level of a well-rounded and worthwhile story.

If you like one of these animes, you're sure to love the other just as much.

Two moeblob iyashikei (no conflict) series with similar pacing and a similar form of comedy. Additionally, both shows play a little bit with non-realistic elements with androids in the Nichijou, and talking cats in Azumanga Daioh.

Main minor differences are that the humour in Nichijou is a lot more physical and over the top, while the humor in Azumanga Daioh is more timid and grounded. Furthermore there is a whole range of male characters (albeit minor / supporting only) in Nichijou, whereas Azumanga Daioh only sports a few.

Lucky Star

Lucky Star

In present day Japan, the life of a school girl is never dull. The easily-bored Konata never finds time to study because of her otaku habits, which frustrates hard-working Kagami to no end. On the other hand, laid-back Tsukasa always manages to go with the flow, while Miyuki is concerned with keeping her status as resident know-it-all. Join these four girls as they muse and meander their way through everyday events such as eating chocolate cones, doing homework, gaming, and trips to the beach galore.

Both anime are boring escapist slice of fife shows where nothing even remotely amusing ever happens.

I think this is a good anime and I think Lucy star fans will love it too. They both have comedy and slice of life.

Both are cute slice of life comedy anime that have a similar vibe and are likely to appeal to the same audience.

Lucky Star OVA

Lucky Star OVA

Konata, Tsukasa, Kagami and Miyuki are four ordinary high school girls who live their lives from day to day. However with their own brand of humour, and Konata’s seemingly endless supply of anime, manga and game references; the girls can make even their mundane everyday adventures that little bit more enjoyable. Whether they are talking to their friend’s dog, turning a gym class game of volleyball into a match between sisters, getting lost on a hike or even playing online RPG games with their teacher, the lives of these friends is anything but dull.

Both OAVs are comedies about the lives of a bunch of cute moé girls. And both shows have a similar visual style. Also both shows are make by KyotoAnimation. If you like one you should watch the other.

Also in this short anime the cast consist mainly of school girls and the slice of life comedy is not realy 'slice of life' comedy anymore because 'common sense' is no more: reality is parodied.

Check & you'll see you like this one too.

Both titles are slice-of-life comedies that use vignettes to tell witty stories which are often very random in nature. Lashings of moe and general endearment abound in each. If you liked one you'll probably like the other, although the characters are very different in comparison.

Both animes live in the same mind space of surreal humor. Nichijou even pays an homage to Bobobo with the noodle slide. Nichijou is a little bit more grounded in reality, but chances are you like it.

A group of female character (mostly) engaged in school life activity without much of a plot. Humor is over the top, a bit dry and generally relatively physical. Both shows also contain a fair bit of elements not really set in reality (android in Nichijou / mythical creatures in School Rumble).

Other than a light romance "plot" in School Rumble and the different characteristics of most of the characters, there are no notable major differences between these two shows.

Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto

Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto

In Gakuban Prefectural High School, there's a boy who just might be the coolest human being alive - a first-year student with style and finesse that solves every problem with ease, and looks absolutely fabulous in the process. Women adore him, children idolize him, and delinquents are frustrated by their inability to defeat him. The teachers can't outwit him, and when there's an animal in trouble, even the raging winds can't hold him back! Whether he's thwarting bullies, sword fighting with an angry bee, or eluding the unwanted attentions of a smitten middle-aged lady, he will always succeed and he will always look unimaginably cool while doing it. Haven't you heard? He's Sakamoto!

haxxo haxxo says...

If you liked Sakamoto desu ga? or Nichijou you would probably like the other, as long as you enjoy slice-of-life pacing and episodic plot, compared to overarching dramatical plot elements. Nichijou features quite a few miniplots each episode while Sakamoto usually has about 3 major stories in each episode.

I would compare the title character in Sakamoto to the character Sasahara in Nichijou--a genteel, stoic, bespectacled character with bizarre personality quirks who is somehow still perceived as cool. It should be noted that Sakamoto is universally loved while Sasahara is seen as putting on aristocratic airs, but still well-intentioned and beloved. Sakamoto is definitely a parody of the cool/stoic black-haired male classmate trope.

The humor in both shows is based on spontaneous absurdities and people acting unexpectedly to some extreme. Both shows feature a lot of nonverbal and prop-based gags while Sakamoto also plays with exaggerated narration. Both shows are based on students in school settings while sometimes featuring home life, although Sakamoto himself has never (at this point) been seen at home or with family.

One of the major differences in these shows is that Nichijou has a largely female cast and does an excellent job of avoiding gender-based humor, allowing female characters to shine without sexualizing or exaggerating their gender. Sakamoto does not and does not try to do this at all--all females on the show are infatuated and obsessed with the title character, although this is often brought to the level of parody that every character in the show is. On the whole, Sakamoto and the main characters of Nichijou act in similarly exaggerated ways and with clear motivations, but I would say that Nichijou does more and is more successful in exploring comedy while Sakamoto focuses on parody of anime tropes.

Both of these short anime are about young school girls dealing with every day occurances in school. Both are fairly silly shorts with almost entirely female casts. If you simply need more school-life anime featuring a bunch of girls, try out the other anime of this pairing.
