Beyond the mere esthetic of "containing monsters", it features Shinigami, has drastic plot twists that'll shock you quite often, it is quite dark(what w/ murder, death, blood and monsters) but has absurdist comedy(Death Note had me gasping for breath in laughter quite often), has a UNIQUE visual flair, "alternative" sensibilities (but what anime nowadays doesn't?), contains(a far more humorous version of)psychological drama, and is rife w/ religious undertones... OH and both contain a school setting! And characters w/ massive egos ;) I'm done.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance

Colin Macleod is dead; or at least, he was for a time. For Colin is an immortal who cannot die and holds a heavy burden: the love of his life, Moya, was crucified in the ancient times of Rome by the conquering Marcus Octavius, and for that he will not rest until he gets his vengeance. Throughout the centuries, Colin dies and is reborn with one wish alone: to kill Marcus where he stands for destroying his reason to live. Now, in a post-apocalyptic present where the world is flooded and monsters roam the streets, Colin has managed to track down Marcus yet again; and with the help of an unlikely prostitute, he might finally have the power to exact his revenge...

How do Death Note and High Lander a Search for Vengeance have in common? Well the first thing is revenge. Both the main characters are searching for it and both have different goals in obtaining them. The main character in Highlander is a misguided fighter of years past while, Light is an inelegance young man that seeks cleansing of the world with Death. After that the similarities do end between the main characters. Light at the end of the series resembles the main villain in High Lander; both try and clean the world with death If you like action then High Lander is your choice while Death Note offers more of a action in high stakes and tension. If you like a romance sprinkled in with your anime then both has that as well; in Death Note it is not as apparent. I recommended these to whoever likes the other.

Shigofumi

Shigofumi

There are some things that can only be said after death. Aided by a talking staff that thinks it is alive, Fumika delivers Shigofumi, the last words and feelings of the dead in the form of letters, to their addressees. Whether they are letters of apology, revenge, or simply a final farewell, she always brings them to their destination. Delivering Shigofumi is not always an easy job; as some people refuse to believe such things as letters from the dead are possible, while others are afraid of what these letters might contain. But the mail must go through; what the recipients decide to do with it afterwards is up to them.

Both of the series have that mysterious, supernatural feel to them. They'll send chills downyour spine at first. They're good for when you're in a dark mood.

Even worse, Oboro and Gennosuke themselves are forced to lead their clans in battle. Ok Ok, I know, you may be thinking "What? Basilisk and Death Note? This chick is off her nut!" but I'm not I swear. When you really stop to consider all the facts, Death Note and Basilisk are very alike. Alright, Basilisk doesn't have shinigami and Death Note doesn't have Ninja. However, both series have 2 opposing forces waged in war against eachother, Basilisk a physical war of bloodshed, Death Note a mental war, but a high stakes war nonetheless. Both series take death and murder rather lightly as if its no problem at all (well, aside from L, Near, Mello ect, but thats a give in) people die in alot of the episodes and both sides (Kouga and Iga or Light and L, depending on which show your talking about) have to stratigically place their movements so as not to be killed by the opposing party, though it does fail from time to time. Also in both series, there's no clear antagonist or protagonist, it's up to you who you want to come out on top and who you say are the good guys and bad guys (or you could b strange like me and like people from both sides in both series xD) and actually, you could get into rather heated debates over who's the good guy and who's the bad guy. Last but definatly not least, both Death Note and Basilisk have some of the nicest artwork I've ever seen in an anime, neither are particularly colorful and they're both relitivly grim, but the artwork is just so stylish. And the many fight scenes in Basilisk shows that off just as nicely as the variety of vibrant setting you find in Death Note. Both series are truly amazing and most definatly worth the watch, trust me, you will most definatly love one as much (if not more) as you loved the other.

The atmosphere of these shows is fairly dark and mysterious. They both have a lot of action and mystery. And the characters are very interesting, very diverse! I think the same age group would enjoy both these shows. Also, after a while, you can't help but feel sorry for the main characters.

If like a series with a strong main character, a few good plot twist, as well as a slightly dark feel at times to it then these can go to gether very well. However both have very different animation styles so can make a little defficult if you dont like the said style

Ayatsuri Sakon is somewhat of an episodic detective story while Death Note is about a madman who wants to purify the world, but both are thrillers at heart with plenty of death and deduction.

In my oppinion these two series share the same dark atmosphere, and circle around death. Both are great to a certain point, but lose some of their value on the way.

both Jigoku Shoujo: Mitsuganae and Death Note have the same concept: judging people who commited grave sins.Even so Death Note has a far more developed story then Jigoku Shoujo but the mood and the atmosphere is similar. If you like one of this two you will definitely like the other one as well.

because they both have a similar charm. Even though one is about vampires and the other one is about human beings, you can relate them, they are both about the line between life and death.
