Both of these deal with the same question - if it's what's best for the world, is it okay to kill people? They both also have a plot that keeps you interested all the way through, and you always end up thinking "just one more episode".

What these series have in common is that their main plot  features an entity who views the world as 'corrupted'.

Said entity is also posseses incredible abilities that make him/her/it nigh all-powerful in their respective universes. And extremely hard to catch. But in both series, there are people sent to hunt them.

The main difference in execution though, is that DN's storyline is continuous, while GitS:SAC's is broken up the main plot, as well as a couple of stand-alone episodes that are unrelated to it. Also, DN is told from the perspective of the 'hunted', while GitS:SAC's events unfold through the eyes of the hunters.

And finally, both are relatively heavy on dialogue (sometimes excessively, in my opinion) and rather mature of tone.

After watching Death Note, I was looking out for another anime that would evoke the same thrill. An anime that would keep me thinking, looking for clues, and trying to guess where the plot was headed next.

Stand Alone Complex was that anime.

The sense of mystery that I got with Death Note was also sustained throughout S.A.C. (and its 2nd Gig, it's worth mentioning), and I sensed a great depth in the amount of thought put in by the teams behind them.

In addition, the character development is fantastic in both. Death Note focuses mainly on the development of its two main characters, Yagami Light and L, and the result is phenomenal. While not -quite- equaling Death Note on those terms (it'd be impossible!), it's obvious that the same level of care and attention has been extended to the "core" members of Section 9 in S.A.C.

Are you into a good detective story? Do you like demons? Do you like sadistic main characters? If you said yes to even one of these, then MTNN is the definite anime for you. Especially if you're into the back-and-forth battles of Kyra and the detectives in Death Note, as well as the Shinigami. Though, the sadism pretty much refers to MTNN only...

Unlike Death Note, MTNN has a bit of a comedic side, what with detective Neuro and his holier-than-thou demon-from-hell attitude and both his and Yako's unsatiable appetite for food and mysteries. Instead of the plurging of the world, or just to have a little fun as with Ryuk, Neuro's only mission is to eat flavorful mysteries created by the mix of human emotions behind murders, his number one goal being to search for the Ultimate Mystery.

Either way, if you enjoyed Death Note, there's a good notion that you'll enjoy this anime (and manga!) as well.

Beware the addicting sadism! Thank you.

Death Note and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro Are Very Similar in quite a few ways. They Both Have a Somewhat Dark Atmosphere And Involve Refrences To Demononic Creatures and Solving Mysteries. They Also Both have a Comedic-Side to them, Although Neuro's Comedy is a lot more Frequent. They Both have interesting Plots That will have good Mystery fans on the edge's of their sits.

Both are really good animes, both have a very HQ art and the tone and theme are pretty much similar, the protagonist's personalities are also similar.

Both are Great. [Take In Mind I only watched two episodes of Yakumo.

Wolframn Wolframn says...

If you liked either Death Note or Psychic Detective Yakumo, you should try other. They're both based on a detective playing the protagonist who is trying to catch the antagonist.

The art style of both animes is smiliar too, the dark themes in both animes are quite obvious.

There's also a lot of deaths in both of them (of course, more in Death Note) and they are both focused on bringing people to justice.

The two main characters (Light and Yakumo) are a lot a like too, although the story-lines and characters are very unique in their own ways.

The sound tracks are also really good and I couldn't tear myself away when I watched either of them. They're both great animes and they would be first on my list if I were recommending to a friend.

Hyouka

Hyouka

"If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I do have to do it, make it quick," is the basic principle by which energy conservationist Houtarou Oreki lives. But after his sister convinces him to join the Classics Club, Houtarou's life is turned upside down when he meets Chitanda, a perpetually-inquisitive girl who challenges the boy's easygoing existence. Intrigued by the slightest hint of a mystery afoot, Chitanda doesn't hesitate to pester the reluctant yet highly analytical Houtarou into satisfying her curiosity at every turn, no matter how small the problem. Alongside fellow members Satoshi and Ibara, the group tackles cases ranging from a self-locking classroom door, a strangely-popular library book, and even the shadowy history of the very club to which they belong!

If you liked Hyouka you will probably like Death Note too. The main male Oreki, from Hyouka, seems similar to L because they both have a nack for solving mysteries. If L was not so weird and had a more normal personality he would be Oreki! If you don't think those characters are similar watch the beginning of episode 20 of Hyouka and I guarentee you will see a physical resemblence. Both animes have great animation and interesting characters.

Both Death Note and Hyouka have suspenseful detective elements. Both are high production value series.

Both feature adult genres.

Characther death accures in both animes.

They have in common: an Intense atmosphere and interesting plot.

Its takes a couple of episodes, to get into the interesting parts, in from the new world, it still deserve a chance.

You wont regret watching those two animes I garantee it.

Luckykitty Luckykitty says...

On the surface, From The New World and Death Note seem quite different. While Death Note's world, asides from of course the shinigamis, is very similar to our own world, From The New World's world is mystical and magical all around. From The New World is much more focused on its fascinating fantasy and sci-fi aspects, while its characters often take a back seat to the world around them. Death Note, on the other hand, has a world that is much more like the world we're used to, and its brilliantly multi-layered characters steal the show. HOWEVER, at their heart, both Death Note and From The New World have very fascinating and thought-provoking things to say about society and human nature, among other topics, and make you deeply question your own morality and what you consider to be justice. If this was an aspect that you enjoyed in one, you'll likely enjoy the other.

Intense psychology, mind games and a tiny dash of psychopathy. I feel like these two go hand in hand. More so for the Alice in Borderlands manga over the anime though, because it's a lot longer and tells more of a story.

Both of these anime feature two main characters who are playing a cat and mouse type of game. Kaguya and Shirogane try to bait the other into confesing their love, L tries to bait Light into doing something that proves he is Kira. Though the themes of these anime are very different, one being a detective anime and the other a romantic comedy they have one thing in common: psychological warfare.

veggiecat veggiecat says...

If you enjoy the high-concept cat and mouse that the main characters play, then you might enjoy this recommendation. Many scenes between Kaguya and Shirogane feel very comparable to scenes between Light and L. Obviously though, one show is a comedy and one is a drama, so keep that in mind.
