xxxHOLiC

Jan 27, 2010

Story: There is no such thing as coincidences. Only hitsuzen. I find myself saying that whenever I hear the word coincidence. That is how much xxxHolic's story sticks in my mind. I watched this a while ago and I still see hints of xxxHolic in my daily life. The way xxxHolic puts things in perspective is EXTRAORDINARY. It is incredibly profound and, when it's not being deep, it's being whimsical. Humor is not lost at all however. Relationships are complex and endearing. Also, a very fitting ending. I wished it wasn't over, and that's why there's xxxHolic Kei, but the ending was cohesive and felt final. For... See full review

Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000%

Dec 13, 2011

Story: I didn't have too many high expectations on this series. It's based on a game. Imagine the game in anime form basically. Lackluster girl surrounded by "dreamy" guys in love with her for little/illogical reasons. However, one major plus, this is so bad that it's funny. It's so bad that it's actually hilarious. It's hard not to laugh so it's not all for nothing.  Animation: Bishounens. That's the major appeal of this series. Bright and bold colors with a pleathora of "hotties" so that you don't run out of eye candy. A great variety to look at especially if you have a... See full review

Ultra Maniac

Apr 14, 2011

Story: I love magical girl, comedy and romance. That is what Ultra Maniac was supposed to be. However, it didn't live to my expectations at all. I wasn't expecting much. At the very least, some humor with some fluff. I didn't even get that. At the very best, I got a chuckle. It was also very predictable. When I watch fluff, I expect at least some drama and something surprising. However, there was little that wasn't unpxpected.  The romance and the magical girl was lackluster. Not put very elogantly, but to sum this series up, it was pretty lame. Animation: This is an older series so the animation is... See full review

Tsubasa: Spring Thunder Chronicle

Aug 27, 2010

Story: Let me start off my telling you that you need to be caught up in the manga in order to understand what is going on. The story starts around the end of volume 21 to 23. However, they make a numerous amount of flashbacks of scenes from the manga that were not in the anime or Tokyo Revelations. The flashbacks did make sense with the storyline though I wish that the producers would have made another season with the events between Tokyo Revelations and Shunraiki. The story also alludes to scenest that are yet to come. Without reading the manga, you'll be lost. That being said, the plot delves in deeper... See full review

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

Jan 26, 2010

Story: The story is a little confusing to me and doesn't quite get as explained as I would like. I don't think they should just leave the manga to do all the explaining. That being said, the plot was deeply engaging. I wanted to keep finding out the gang's adventures. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy and was actually not going to watch Tsubasa. However, I heard that it fits well with xxxHolic (which I love) so I gave this a chance. It truly impressed me and I love the plot. The tragedy that is the relationship between Sakura and Syaoran is heart wrenching but engaging. I really felt for what was... See full review

Trinity Blood

Jan 21, 2011

Story: Trinity blood started off promising. There was action and intrigue. However, after a few episodes, it fell flat. There seemed to be a lot of fillers. The action started to pick up again but that was after I had given up for a while. I picked it up again but the interest never came back in full force. There were oddly placed flashbacks and the ending was just too open ended. So many questions were left unanswered. In addition, the characters seemed to make a string of contradictory decisions. However, on the plus side, there were plot twists, drama, romance and a little humor to balance things off... See full review

Toradora SOS! Hurray for Gourmands

Dec 7, 2010

Story: The only reason why this score is as high as it is because of the food. I really love my food. Therefore, that was the only redeeming quality of this four episodes. The food which wasn't even done well. I know that parody aren't supposed to stay completely true to the anime but this was just awful and not funny. At most I might have got a half laugh/smile. The entire episodes didn't make much sense and the only connecting theme was the food. I love Toradora and I hate to see how badly they messed up with these specials. There is nothing special about them. They're not even so bad that they're funny... See full review

Tokyo Mew Mew

Jan 29, 2010

Story: Up to date, this has to be the worst anime that I have seen. I do not know what kept me from stopping because I have little good to say about this and I am incredibly embarrassed to have say I have seen all 50 something episodes. It started off badly and ended that way with a plethora of fillers in middle. It's like a crap sandwich with stale bread so to speak. Fillers have little point and feel like waste of time. The "romance" was  flawed and Mew Mew reeked of typical shojo which is annoying girl with little redeeming qualities somehow attracts high status boys... See full review

The World God Only Knows II

For the most part, it has the same feel as season 1 but most of the girls were more likable (except Chihiro). It still needs another season but I loved the ending. For something more detailed, read my first review.

The World God Only Knows

Jan 6, 2011

*I just typed this entire review when my computer decided to take me to the previous page and I lost it all. This is much as I can remember of what I typed* Plot: A dating sims otaku is forced by a demon into rounding up loose souls by getting real girls to fall in love with him. I love this concept and the series really does deliver in that aspect. There is humor and romance although the romance is short lived. The plot shows progressions through as the female becomes increasingly more complex. There are two filler episodes but they are very funny and cute so it's not a complete waste of time. However... The Wallflower

Jan 28, 2010

Story: After watching Ouran High School Host Club, I heard of this and was pretty gung-ho on watching this due to the similarities. However, Wallflower(this is how I'm going to refer to it throughout the review) was nowhere near as good. The premise started well enough but fell a little flat. I actually stopped watching this at first because it weirded me out so much. I did finish it and I'm glad that I did because it was very funny. However, the some random aspect make your eyes wide with bewilderment instead of your mouth wide with humor. The romantic relationships were not the best but it was still fun... See full review

The Mystic Archives of Dantalian

May 26, 2012

Story: I'm disappointed because I really liked the premise of this series. I thought it had promise but fell short. It felt a little all over the place. The individual stories were nice but they didn't seem to mesh and give a overall plot. There were also too many ideas that were introduced and not paned out well. If there's a sequel that makes up for the what the series was lacking then that will be good but otherwise, it falls short. However, it definitely does have unique ideas and does cause you to think. Animation: Really nice but can be a little scattered. I will remember Dantalian but not the... See full review

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Aug 7, 2011

Story: I've mentioned this before but anime movies usually disappoint me. They like a really long filler episode. However, that did not apply to Vanishment of Haruhi Suzimaya. Imagine a really good arc of Haruhi Suzimaya. Ok, now translate that into a movie and that is what you get. You get the intricate story line, strange comedy, and unexpected twists. It had everything I loved from Haruhi Suzimaya. However, you will need to see both seasons in order to understand the movie (I had not seen season 2 and ended up being confused for a good portion). Haruhi Suzimaya lovers rejoice because this lives up to the... See full review

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Jan 13, 2011

Story: I don't particularly like mecha but I decided to try this because of all the good things I hear about it. I was surprised. The first half was exciting and full of drama, action and comedy. It had some soul to it and real spirit. However, the second half felt too complex and confusing. They tried to put way too many logic suspending concepts into one without too much explanation. You just had to go: "Ok, that didn't make any sense but ok". I know a lot of anime doesn't need to make logical sense but you're left in a state of bewilderment. The ending was fitting; however, the resolution... See full review

Squid Girl

Jan 2, 2011

Story: A squid girl attempts to invade the world but ends up working at a beach store. That should already tell you that there really isn't any deep plot. The episodes consist of about two to three segments of the various antics surrounding squid girl. There is little deapth but I wasn't expecting anything too profound. The segments never feel too long and are full of cuteness and sillyness. It's just a bundle of fun. There is some attempt of seriousness at the end but it becomes resolved quickly with a cute message about being yourself. It kept me laughing from the first episode to the last. If you're... Special A

Jan 23, 2010

Story: Special A is very quirky.  The small subplots and characters definitely make an engaging and thrilling adventure. The special a's class ability to do inhuman things is fun instead of annoying. The ending was very well done (not physically or humanly possible but suitable) leaving few loose ends. Great romance. Hikari and Kei are an all-time favorite couple of mine. Animation: Very pretty animation. Bold colors and neat and attractive character designs. Very visually appealing and the backgrounds were bright and vivid. However, nothing remarkable or anything that sticks out. The characters shine... See full review

Soul Eater

Jan 14, 2010

Story: Soul Eater lacks the most in the story portion. Not to say that it is not good, but the conclusion of the most of the conflicts end anticlimactically. They build up an epic battle only to end the viewer feeling disappointing. However, that is one of the only few flaws I found in this anime (even though that is a pretty big one). I would definitely recommend this to someone who likes action, humor, even drama. I found myself hooked after the first episode and wanting more. Even the few episodes that did not enhance the plot were fun. Animation: I am a big fan of the animation. I love the... See full review

Skip Beat!

Jan 23, 2010

Story: I loved the story except for the ending. Be warned, the ending is awful. It is not satisfying and, at the very least, feels more like the conclusion for the last episode instead of the series as a whole. There are many loose ends and so much left open ended. However, that was my only issue. The plot is engaging and fun. The drama and humor was placed in the right place and in right quantities. Good romance as well. The dialog is hilarious at times and so are the other little quirks.Animation: I was not a fan of the male character designs in general such as Ren, Shotaro, and Ren's manager... See full review

Shugo Chara Party!

Dec 18, 2010

Story: So the ending of Shugo Chara Doki disappointed me a little. However, I still enjoyed it and I was happy to continue of to Shugo Chara Party. However, my hopes crashed after the very beginning. First of the new changes that were added were the cosplayers. I don't understand their purpose and they just annoyed me. I don't watch anime to watch real people dressed up as anime characters. If I did, I would go to a con. The little skits that the cosplayers did annoyed me too like the nail art and dance lessons. Are you serious? Then came Shugo Chara Puchi Puchi which were small segments involving the... See full review

Shugo Chara!

Jan 25, 2010

Story: Clearly, the plot is overshadowed by the characters, animation and sound but that doesn't stop it from being exciting and interesting. However, there are a lot of small filler episodes. They usually are very warm and fuzzy but they do little with the plot. Nonetheless, the plot is not slow paced and there is a good amount of humor, drama and romance. Slightly unsatisfying ending but that is where Shugo Chara Doki! comes to play. Animation: Beautiful animation. The colors are bold and the backgrounds are eye-popping. The action moves are fluid and so are the movement and the character... See full review

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Oct 9, 2010

Story: Seitokai Yakuindomo is basically a bunch of short skits put together. It's pretty random with little connection between scenes. Not too much plot but it didn't really lend itself to one. The anime followed the seasons and showed the typical scenes that happen in any anime with a school setting (cultural festival, sport festival, Christmas, Valentine's Day, school trip, and to the beach for summer). However, the real basis for Seitokai Yakuindomo is the humor. The humor is incredibly crude and you'll be going "WTF, she did not just say that?!" plenty of times during each episode... School Rumble: 2nd Semester

Dec 7, 2010

Story: It starts off where School Rumble ended. I am going to warn you that you don't really get too much progress with either of the main relationships but I wasn't really expecting it. There is some development but not enough to make real drama which isn't really what School Rumble is about. It is about some romance but twice as much random comedy. You will laugh your ass off because School Rumble really does deliver. There is some plot but most of the time it's just random which is what it's going for. Jan 26, 2010

Story: An entertaining love story. School Rumble has to be the epitome of a romantic comedy. It truly is love and comedy. Their antics are hilarious and the way the show is split works perfectly. The ending was a little lackluster but it fit. Romance grows between the unexpected and not as much which the main lovebirds; however, that isn't a bad thing. The humor is really unexpected as well. Random things pop out that just crack you up. Sands of Destruction

Feb 13, 2011

Plot: I had an anime marathon with my roommate and sister and we ended up choosing this for some reason. We tried to pick out something that was 12 episodes, was on a legal site and something neither of us tried but within something we liked. Ga-Rei-Zero didn't really interest us (granetd we only gave it 2 minutes) so we moved on to Sands of Destruction. It started off well enough. It kept my interest and had a somewhat interesting plot. The animals helped with how ridicilous they looked. However, after the first episode, the series became fairly episodic. It was basically how they saved someone while Morte... See full review

Aug 4, 2011

Story: The plot is generally about a threesome traveling together in order to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers. Throughout their journey, they have several encounters ranging from normal events in their time period to the strangely bizarre. For the most part, the series is episodic with a few flashbacks and one main plot. Although the idea of friends traveling together on a journey may not be new, Samurai Champloo definitely does it with style. It adds all these strange elements that surprisingly work. The pacing is terrific. Usually I wouldn't want to marathon an episodic series but I would not have... See full review

Story: I am ashamed to say that I watched all of this anime. It was addicting but not good. Senseless fluff with pointless drama. The areas that were probably supposed to be funny or serious fell flat. The only reason it's as high as it is because I found myself unable to stop. Maybe I was incredible bored and even Peach Girl was able to hold my interest or maybe the anime is secretly laced with cocaine, I'm not sure. Definitely not impressed. Story: Imagine a One Piece filler in the form of a movie. That basically explains this movie. One Piece fillers aren't that bad but they are definitely not something that I gravitate toward. However, this does have action and plently of comedy. You get some laughs but it pales in comparsion to Strong World film or real One Piece episodes. Also, this falls in right after Skypia but before Waters 7. Animation: Similar to the regular series but with much more fanservice. MUCH more fanservice. Sound: Hit or miss outrack. Story: It was a truly bizarre concept. I have never thought of One Piece as being creepy but this movie definitely was. However, we do get some action, comedy, and Luffy being a hero which is nice anytime of the day. It's not a complete waste but it is a pretty freaky movie. There are also some holes at the end though. Animation: I have never given something a question mark but that is how strange the animation was. The movie was like a short One Piece arc that had all the elements that One Piece usually has. If you're a One Piece fan, then you'll be happily surprised. If you're not a One Piece fan, go watch and/or read it, then watch this and be happily surprised. Animation: It's similar to the series animation expect the quality up a little  higher.
