Air Gear

on May 28, 2012

Story: Air Gear started off with an interesting premise with the concepts of ATs and flying. However, it fell flat. The ideas weren't developed and some were plain incoherent. It is interesting and has plently of humour, action and some romance. However, it wasn't that special. Each resolution felt "meh" or ".......really". I had trouble taking the explanations seriously. In addition, the series tries to have profound moments but falls short. All in all, it was ok but there are much better series out there. Art: I liked the art for the most part but I felt the ecchi was too much. I do... See full review

Fullmetal Alchemist

on May 26, 2012

Story: I have come across many mangas that either try to do too much or be more than they are. However, even with all the hype that Fullmetal Alchemist had, it does not fall short. It coveres so many aspects of different genres while excelling in each and every one. It can be full of action, drama, comedy and romance but do them all brillantly and with justice. Throughout the series, you can find your heart being pulled from anticipation, sadness, horror, action or you can end up not being able to breath because it can be so funny at times. It's really a journey with a great ending to boot. I was worried... See full review

Nodame Cantabile

on May 26, 2012

Story: Music and romance. It sounds like it become really cheesy and predictable. However, it wasn't. It did the music aspect justice. It wasn't just a bunch of bs. I likes the plot and the overall pacing. I never felt like it was too fast or too slow. It had a slice of life feel to it but it didn't drag. It progressed nicely and the changes were subtle but evident. I like the development of the romance and there was ample comedy. There's definite substance and I would recommend this to anyone looking for something with music, romance, comedy or even slice of life. In addition, I enjoyed the ending. I... See full review

Doubt (Yoshiki TONOGAI)

on Aug 25, 2011

Story: The concept was interesting and if you like high stake games, then you probably like this. It does go by incredibly quickly and is hard to put down. I found myself finishing this in one sitting. There are some predictable moments but it's still interesting enough to contine reading and would make a nice re-read. There is quite a bit of violence but that is expected. Don't anticipate a happy ending though. Art: The characters aren't particular memorable but were well drawn for the most part. Expressions were done sufficiently. The main points the art does get is for creating the atmosphere. The cover... See full review

Honey and Clover

on Jul 26, 2011

Story: Slice-of-Life with drama, romance and comedy with the perfect amount of each. It has drama and excitement that makes you want to keep reading it but it never becomes a soap opera. It has realistic touch but has plenty of heart-warming/breaking and hilarious moments throughout the series. It's deep and really makes you think about love and life. I have little bad to say about it other than the fact that's over. However, the ending was terrific. It feels final without leaving a huge amount of questions unanswered. It also doesn't accelerate toward the end but keeps the same pace it's had since the... See full review

Bunny Drop

on Jul 23, 2011

Story: I've seen the "single parent suddenly get child" concept done several times in different mediums. However, Usagi Drop does it but with completely different feel. It has two major timelines. The first timeline is mostly slice of life. There is drama but nothing like soap opera. It's mainly Daikichi figuring how to make a family with Rin and the moments and feelings that unfold. The second timeline is more dramatic. However, neither become like soap opera which is nice. I will admit that I have a preference for the first timeline but the second is still good. Although this is a slice-and-life... See full review

Rust Blaster

on Jun 14, 2011

Story: It was a very interesting concept but the series felt to scattered. It went from cute to serious and battles abruptly without smooth transitions. I wished the ideas were more fleshed out as well because you end the series feeling perplexed. The ending is way too broad and feels abrupt. However, it was entertaining and is an easy read. Art: I do like art and the character designs. Just about everyone is eye candy and the backgrounds are nice. The action scenes do leave something to be desired however. It is nice that the mangaka has a distinct style though. Characters: There was an attempt for... See full review

Chobits

on Mar 21, 2011

Story: I'm usually not into the whole techonolgy thing but I love Clamp so I thought I would give this a try. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the ethical and moral questions that Chobits brought up. I think they are valid and are more relatable as techonology grows in our present day. I loved the pacing and the picture book stories. I'm not a fan of ecchi but I do admit that it lightened up the manga so that it wouldn't be too heavy. I thought the romance was endearing as well. I think it really makes you think which is what Clamp does best. Art: It's Clamp. What more can I say. Characters: I read a... See full review

Kodocha: Sana's Stage

on Mar 15, 2011

Story: I first thought that Kodocha was going to be some cutesty kid romance story. However, I was seriously mistaken. There is romance and they are children but it’s far from childish. There are some pretty heavy themes. However, this darkness is always balanced with humor that had me laughing out loud. I liked the romance, comedy and drama. It wasn’t over the top and it had some unexpected plot twists. It wasn’t predictable which is refreshing. I enjoyed the pacing and, although it left me guessing at times, I was never confused. It becomes very addicting until the very last chapter. I... See full review

Tramps Like Us

on Dec 13, 2010

I swear I remembering writing this right after I finished reading it but it's not here. So strange. I'll try to do my best to rewrite it but it's been a while. Story: While I was finishing another manga series, I stumbled upon this one on one of those ads. I liked the cover and the plot sounded interesting. I thought it would be one of those guilty pleasures. The kinds that you like for some reason but don't like telling others about. This one surprised me and I found myself really liking and quickly becoming addicted. I was rooting for them the entire time and, even though I was annoyed at times, I still... See full review

Tokyo Mew Mew

on Dec 3, 2010

Story: There was an attempt for a decent plot but I don't it quite came through. I'm a big fan of magical girl but I didn't like this at all. The pacing felt really fast and not quite developed enough. Conflicts seemed to be resolved incredibly quickly without too much explanations. The ending was frankly ridiculous. It was cliche and over-the-top. There was romance but I felt that it was shallow so it just annoyed me. It just seemed to full of fluff. I do acknowledge that there were plot twists and surprises but they were borderline melodramatic. However, overall, it just didn't cut it for me. At least, it... See full review

Peach Girl

on Nov 30, 2010

Story: Drama, drama, drama. It's like a high school soap opera. It's really addicting and you're done with a volume before you know. It's got plenty of drama, comedy and romance. It can be pretty melodramatic at times but it does good with what it's going for. I don't have as much problem with the story as I do with the characters but I'll get to that. I did like the ending. Warning though: it's very addicting. VERY ADDICTING. Also, I did like the Peach Girl code: Love yourself for who you are. I thought it was a really nice touch. Art: The art is ok. Sometimes the dramatic scenes don't do it for... See full review

Chibi Vampire

on Nov 22, 2010

Story: I'm a fan of the vampire genre but it can become overdone. However, Karin adds a nice fresh twist to it (and a funny one at it). It may not make the most amount of sense but it still interesting. I really enjoyed this romantic comedy. It had plenty of romance, humor and plot twist to keep it going. The pacing was good. Not too fast but things didn't drag on too much either. Each plot line was developed and concluding nicely. You are left with a few questions but not too many. The romance wasn't shallow and the humor was hilarious. Any shoujo fan would love this. The battle was a... See full review

Paradise Kiss

on Oct 29, 2010

Story: Very engaging plot. It's drama, comedy and romance done well within the fashion industry (a nice twist). The relationships are twisted but have charm in a way. I enjoyed the story and I couldn't stop reading it even though I needed to sleep. The ending has a bittersweet taste to it. It's well paced and developed well with unexpected twists. Although I did get annoyed at times, I still liked it. I would recommend this to others who were looking for something for an older demographic. Warning: they are some sexual scenes that I felt were awkward. The dialog was just weird for those scenes. Art... See full review

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle

on Aug 23, 2010

Story:  I would have given Tsubasa a ten had it made complete sense. However, there were parts that were downright illogical. I know that it wasn’t supposed to be logical but I still don’t accept. Although Mokona from Clamp is probably the only person who fully understands Tsubasa, I loved the story. The beginning was funny and cute with dark undertones. During and after the Tokyo arc, the dark undertones took center stage. Goodbye to the cute days and hello dark and edgy. I think Tsubasa is the very definition of plot twists with things I wouldn’t expect things from a mile... See full review

Kamichama Karin

on Jun 25, 2010

Story: It's a very cute story filled with romance, drama and comedy. I could parts of it a little confusing but there is a sequel to answer those mysteries. The pacing was done well and I wasn't bored. I wanted to keep reading which is always a good thing. It kind of reminds me of Shugo Chara. There are plenty of twists to keep the story exciting and some very amusing and unpredictable scene. It can be a bit cloying at times but not enough to bring down the series. Even older people might find it very enjoyable. However, the action scenes are a little disappointing but, what can I say, action isn't really a... See full review

Bitter Virgin

on Mar 24, 2010

Story: Boy is a womanizer and only doesn't like this one girl because he thinks she's putting on a facade. Boy finds out that girl has a dark past and grows to accept and love her. Obstacles are put in his path but his feelings only get stronger. Although this sounds cliche, Bitter Virgin was far from it. The dark past of Hinako is so moving and sad that you become engrossed by her. Also, one the most realistic endings I have read. It was bittersweet. Although it wasn't completely happy, it was satisfying. Dramatic, Romantic, Action, with bits of humor thrown in as well.Art: It was good. The plot behind it... See full review

on Feb 23, 2010

Story: Oh Azumanga Daioh, how amusing you are. Light and humorous and flowing as well. I felt myself laughing all time while reading this. From all the little quirks and oddities, Azumanga isn't short of comedy and fun. Nothing to heavy and I never found myself bored. The ending was fitting and not overdone. Just a great bundle of fun. Art: Cute and amusing. Character designs fit to a tee. I found Chiyo's father pretty creepy though. Other than that, the art is easy on the eyes. The short panels don't do much for the background but there not supposed to. Chiyo-chan is the epitome of cuteness especially... See full review

Hot Gimmick S (Light Novel)

on Feb 15, 2010

My review for Hot Gimmick sums up my feelings for the base of this novel but the novel proves to be only a slight bit better. The ending is......a little bit better than Hot Gimmick which wouldn't be hard to do. However, the writing style is atrocious along with the plot. It is utterly predictable. No Ryoki makes the novel like having your skin burned with a lighter instead of like in Hot Gimmick where it was like being in burned to the stake. There was a reason why she draws scenery and characters. The descriptions were so lackluster and boring. It read like a second grade level book... See full review

Hot Gimmick

on Feb 15, 2010

Contains some spoilers but nothing to bad. Story: Well we have an incompetent girl who is the apple of two slightly three guys and finds herself torn between these affections. Also, she feels she must keep her sister's secret of her almost getting pregnant. Drama, drama, drama some romance, and gasp the crappiest endings I have yet to read. When the girl's only options are: abuser, gang banger, and brother, and I would chose her brother, we have some issues. I have an older brother and I know how even if I found out that he wasn't my biological brother, my family sentiments wouldn't... See full review

Absolute Boyfriend

on Feb 11, 2010

Story: For shoujo lovers, you will eat this up. Girl with little good qualities finds amazing unattainable men who loves her wholeheartingly.  Yet even with the generic premise, it surprises you. It's drama and humor and love and although it can be cheesy, you want to keep reading. The ending is sad in a way but not bad. Also, if you have anything important to do within the next couple of days, DO NOT start absolute boyfriend. This manga is addicting and once you start, you'll have read 20 some chapters, look at the time and realize "OMG, it's 4 in the morning, I need to go to bed......but just... See full review
