In both manga the heroine has an excellent sense of taste and got into a special school thanks to someone's recommendation. Najica plans to become a chef and is already good at cooking and baking, while Ichigo wants to become a pâtissière and is a complete beginner. At first both Najica and Ichigo have a few problems fitting in  but they persevere and they work hard to improve their skills so that they can make others smile while eating their food/sweets.

14-year-old Ichigo Amano is incredibly clumsy and can't seem to do anything right besides eating cakes. When she stumbles upon a Sweets Festival, she meets Henri sensei who acknowledges her ability of taste and invites her to transfer to St. Marie Academy to become a pâtissière. Ichigo has trouble adjusting initially, but with the help of the 3 Sweets Princes and the Sweets Spirits, she gains the confidence and skill to work towards becoming a pâtissière!

They both involve cooking and give an overall similar feel. Though I have to say that Kitchen Princess has a bit more romance.

phoenixaurora phoenixaurora says...

Both are shoujo manga about bright and cheery heroines who learn to cook at a culinary school for young talents and also become the center of a love triangle subplot. Yumeiro Patissiere is more oriented for younger audiences and is much lighter on the romance and drama than Kitchen Princess, which features heavier themes of grief in later volumes.

It has the same premise, although the reason for entering the schools are different. Both the main characters are cheerful and want to meet a person they love, who gave them a reason to continue on (love of baking).

Both series are about a girl who enters a school for people with special talents. Both girls have trouble fitting in with the class, and have to prove they are worthy to be there. Both girls are eventually able to make true friends and prove their ability through doing what they do best.

deideiblueeyez deideiblueeyez says...

While Kitchen Princess is about cooking, there are some similarities to Gakuen Alice that make both enjoyable reads. Both main leads are cheery innocent girls who always look on the bright side of things and truly want to see the good in everyone. Also, there are two male love/friendship interests for her that are very close to each other as best friends in their own right; some jealous girls that want to tear her down due to her popularity with said boys; a mysterious and slightly threatening higher power that seems to be the cause of the boys' suffering; and some heavy themes that are not played so tragically that it can't be enjoyed by a younger audience around 10-13 years old.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Both are really good series for a start, both are about a girl who enters a school which was made for people with special talents. Also they are both searching for one thing or another Mikan is looking for Hotaru and Najika is looking for her flan prince so already the main characters are pretty similar. So if you want something light and you liked one of these manga then you should like the other.

Kitchen Princess and Mixed Vegetables are two food-centric shoujo manga that involve a heavy dose of romance. If delicious recipes and romance are your thing, definitely check these two out!

Both manga involve food, though Kitchen Princess focuses more on the recipes. You're more likely to like both of these titles because they're both shoujo rather than the food connection, but it does create a connection between the two series.

Both series feature a girl who has a prince who saved her as a young girl. They have to struggle to be with the one they love, and go through tragedy to fulfill their dreams.

phoenixaurora phoenixaurora says...

Both of these shoujo manga have the same premise. A boy had once come to the protagonist in her time of despair and they had made a promise during childhood. Years later, she tries to find him at her new school where the wealthy and the elite are separated from the commoners. There, she is looked down upon for seeming so ordinary yet invokes the jealousy of others for being able to capture the school's "prince"'s attention. However, she gradually becomes part of the elite group and becomes involved in a love triangle between brothers with a traumatic past, one of whom is the "prince" from her childhood. Both series feature school life drama as well as tragedy that grips the protagonist in later volumes.

Imadoki!

Imadoki!

Tanpopo Yamazaki, a humble girl from Hokkaido, moves to Tokyo to attend an elite school and make a new life for herself. But for Tanpopo, life at the elitist Meio Academy seems way out of her league. The daughters of wealthy families snub her; other students make light of the fact that she actually tested into Meio instead of relying on family connections; and the cute boy she saw tending a dandelion the day before wouldn't even acknowledge her existence, despite being in the same class! Hoping to make friends and have some fun, Tanpopo starts up a Gardening Club; but will this help her survive in a school where superficiality and nepotism reign supreme?

In both shows the girl's parents die. And go to a new school with a funny entrance. In Kitchen Princess, Najika meets Daichi from climing down a tree, and in Imadoki! Nowadays, Tanpopo meets Koki from flying over the school wall on her bike. Both shows are similar in many other ways also.....

Funari Funari says...

An orphaned but still optimistic girl moves from the boonies into a big city to attend an elite academy and promptly gets snubbed and picked on by everyone, yet still soldiers on and makes a place for herself (and thaws the jerkish-seeming but actually nice love interest) with her never-say-die attitude. Imadoki! and Kitchen Princess pretty much have the same premise. The plotlines do diverge somewhat as both series advance, but if you liked the basic premise in one, checking the other one out is a good idea, as well.

But this alone isn't the reason they resemble each other. Both also feature a surprisingly serious and "real world - like" subject amidst their initial more light-hearted antics with Kitchen Princess having a character suffering from an eating disorder while Imadoki has the cast scrambling about to figure out what to do to about a teenage pregnancy with the father-to-be bailing out. Both were firsts for me among shoujo manga, at least. (To note a difference, Kitchen Princess takes an even darker turn as it advances, though.) Still, they resemble each other enough to warrant a mention.

Kitchen Princess and Koko ni Iru yo! both involve a girl who  isn't exactly popular, who likes a popular boy. The main three characters from each story remind me of each other, and the two main male characters in each story kind of resemble the pair from the other story. And that's not all. Both stories deal with that sinister mean girl at school trying to make the heroine's life miserable.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

These have both got female protagonists who have someone they like for one reason or another. They both feature a hint of bullying towards the main character and both have a really detailed story. So I personally think if you liked one of these then you should like the other!

The story of both manga is very similar, in both manga the main character are pursuing their dream in order to meet the person they had made a promised with when they were children. Both manga also focuses on tragedy of the death of loved ones and deals with how people closes to them moved on and rebuilding their life...

phoenixaurora phoenixaurora says...

The female lead of both of these shoujo manga are orphan girls pursuing a career that was inspired by a promise with a gentle, prince-like boy with blond hair they had met in the past. Having not seen him since childhood but keeping him in her heart throughout the years, she sets out on her dream and hopes to find him again through her career. She meets new friends along the way, including a tsundere dark-haired boy. The two series gets darker in later volumes - a main theme in both series is about how to cope with depression and grief from the death of a loved one. Despite forever losing the chance to confess their mutual feelings, the female lead learns to accept what has happened and keep looking forward to what the future holds.

I'll be honest - Kitchen Princess and Addicted to Curry probably don't have the same core audience. KP is definitely lighter shoujo, while Addicted to Curry is far more high octane with a good amount of ecchi. Regardless though, both have long, drawn out discussions of food - how many manga out there do that? Certainly not many, so if you can handle the change in demographic, these are a good fit.

Antique Bakery

Antique Bakery

Tachibana is an heir to a huge and successful corporation. He can speak five languages, play musical instruments, and has even passed the bar exam, so naturally he's now... running a bakery?! At the Antique Bakery, Ono, known as the ‘Gay of demonic charm' serves as the head patissier; ex-boxing pro Eiji works as Ono's apprentice; and Tachibana's bumbling henchman and shadow, Chikage, helps out to the best of his rather limited abilities. As a carefree ladies man, Tachibana is always ready to turn on the charm if it means getting a sale, though aside from his love of women, no one really knows why the grandson of a successful businessman would suddenly decide to open a bakery. Could a traumatic event in Tachibana's past have anything to do with why he set up shop?

Both Kitchen Princess and Moe Kare have a different yet same story line. Their stories are totally different but still have the same core plot line. In both stories you have two guys who look identical yet host two totally distinct personalities fall in love with the same girl. This therefor leaves the protagonist girl in a sort of a dilemma at times. Will the fall for the serious softer type or the more rebellious type?
