We can say that both have this kind of machine premise, But Darling is more of a Mecha. Gripen and Kei’s relationship looks a lot like Zero Two and Hiro’s relationship, But Gripen is way more naive (pink hair is the main feature)

Gripen and Kei are really similar to Hrio and Zero Two's relationship: The girls are both human appearing (but not really human) misfits that pilot a war machine and the male protagonist (Hiro and Kei) must ride along with them to bring out their true powers.
