That night, she is greeted by a parade of felines who inform Haru that her earlier heroics saved the prince of the Cat Kingdom. Haru suddenly finds herself inundated with gifts of mice and catnip as means of thanks, culminating in the announcement that she will be taken to their kingdom to marry the prince. With no desire to marry Prince Lune, Haru turns to The Baron and Muta from the Cat Bureau for help, but unable to stop them, Haru is swept away by a horde of cats. A girl becomes a cat. Get to know a mysterious and fantastic cat kingdom. Live beautiful adventures to discover and love yourself. The same feeling in both films, different studies.

Umbrawing Umbrawing says...

As much as I hate to say it, both of them are something along the lines of "Character turns into cat. Character likes being cat, but likes being human more." Simplistic, but I really liked both, and I'm not a huge fan of cats either.

ClareLaBelleRose ClareLaBelleRose says...

Both are cat transformation movies with themes of love and accepting yourself, both of which I very much enjoyed myself, as a cat lover.

Feinraf Feinraf says...

I was shocked that these didn't have more recommendations for each other. They are very similar storylines, both have a girl feeling lost in life and confused about their love interests, whilst integrating further and further with a cat society.

hisignalize hisignalize says...

Both are great films about young girls turning into cats, urban fantasies with paralell magical worlds. While "The Cat Returns" is more kid-oriented, "A Whisper Away" is targeting teenagers and young adults and has the Okada Mari touch to it, with more imperfect characters. And while I'm not generally a fan of it, "The Cat Returns" has a great dub, with Cary Elwes voicing a cat, I mean what more you could ask for?

Littlesilverwolf Littlesilverwolf says...

Both the anime are about human transferring into cat due to stress in real world. The main heroine wish to become cat instead of human. In the end, both the heroine realises that being human is better than cat

wucchu wucchu says...

Both films have a similar story of a girl who wants to be a cat. Both of the films also show a magical yet mysterious side of cats' lives.

Grap Grap says...

Both have very very similar themes, if you enjoyed one you will like the other. They are both really good in their own way

Jisu Jisu says...

Very similar vibes. Very cute and awesome coming of age stories about two different girls with two very different lives but they do both become cats.

CallMeZayda CallMeZayda says...

If you liked the whole turning into a cat story or maybe just liked the look of the cat village your going to like this Anime. A lot of people have done summerys on it so to keep it simple, just like the MC here turns into a cat so does this one but instead of a mask she slowly starts turning into as she goes into the land of cats. Reason why she's there? She helped a cat who turns out to be the cat prince and now out of gratitude, the cat king wants her to marry his son. The story then contiues to show how she gets out of a situation and returns to the human world, the moral of the story being "to return a favor"

sxkurxbloom sxkurxbloom says...

The Cat Returns is just like A Whisker Away because they both have a female protagonist going into the world of anthropomorphic cats.

Both movies deal with unrequired love/longing to be with someone, and then connecting with them on a supernatural level.

they are both trying to be with the person they love. Very beautiful movie. I loved both and recommend watching both.

Max4444 Max4444 says...

They are both great romance movies that have very sad moments. Both have the MC who wants to be with their crush, but can’t really be with them.

ImNotSleepy ImNotSleepy says...

Both animes have a similar concept where the girl and boy fall in love in the end. A Whisker Away has a cuter concept than Your Name but I really love both movies.

lsnyde28 lsnyde28 says...

Slice of life blended with fantasy, changing forms, romance, similar drawing style. Both start off very light and get more emotional as they continue through the story.

Healer111 Healer111 says...

They are both kind of magical but chill. Very interesting and I still dont know what to say about them. Animation pretty, just everything is amazing.

Timed Timed says...

Both of these series follow a theme of unrequited love between the main characters that follows a supernatural path. A Whisker Away follows a path of animal transformation and animals, while Your Name follows body swapping and some messing with time.

sxkurxbloom sxkurxbloom says...

A Whisker Away and your name. are excellent films because they have scenes that are super natural. One movie has a girl transforming into a cat to impress her love interest with a magic mask, and the other has a boy and the girl switching bodies to see what happens if they live like that. Hope you like your name. as well as watched and liked A Whisker Away.

The main protagonist struggles fitting in. Scarecrows are used to symbolize the people outside of Muge's own world. It's just like the "X"'s in A Silent Voice.

These two movies both focus on an unfortunate situation and the pair that get themselves into it.

While they have very different resolutions to the problems they have some very similar factors.

Both are a quick watch but have meaning. You are who you are. Be proud of who you are. You may not think that others see you, but they do.

SpecialistIsHot SpecialistIsHot says...

They both have well character development, and the romance is slow yet charming. In both stories, the characters relationships are not good, or even mutual. In the end though, it ends as it should... happily ever after.

YaBoyUneven YaBoyUneven says...

Both have a lesson to give about how a human thinks and how you should interact with others. Great animation and plot so recommend 10/10

Max4444 Max4444 says...

Both have a main/important character that gets bullied.

In both the relationship between the main guy and girl is not very good at the beginning, but over the course of the movie they get closer to each other.

Both movies have great character development.

The stories have different plots but they share the theme of young love. While in Whisker Away a girl turns into a cat to get closer to her crush, the MC in Whisper of the Heart ends up becoming closer to her crush when she visits a store with a cat statue.

Cats move the plot forward in both of these films, and are both dramatic heartfelt films with a beautiful soundtrack that is sure to immerse you into the movie.

Both of these movies are by the same animation studio! Thematically, I think that they're pretty similar; they're both about kids dealing with personal issues and growing up, each with a unique fantasy spin on the traditional coming-of-age story. Both are definitely worth a watch, I feel.

Delusional Monthly Magazine

Delusional Monthly Magazine

On the second floor of an old building is a publishing company that puts out a periodical called Delusional Monthly Magazine, a science magazine featuring articles about shocking, bizarre events and inexplicable phenomena that make even scientists throw up their hands in defeat. Its staff consists only of a beautiful editor-in-chief and her one editor, Taro J. Suzuki, who are joined by grade-school-aged assistant Jiro Tanaka and his dog, Saburo. The editorial department is always empty, and Taro, Jiro, and Saburo are usually hanging out in Rock, a coffee shop on the first floor. One day, the scientist Goro Sato visits them for a consultation, and therein lies the beginning of an outlandish new story...
