Things don't get much more alike than this. The creators of Digimon obviously saw the success of Pokemon and planned on getting as much out of the popularity as they could. The result was two series with similar creatures (you can't really call them monsters) and an almost identical concept. The main difference between the two is that Pokemon is competition-oriented, while Digimon is more about saving the world.

AsukaLangley AsukaLangley says...

Both Pokemon and Digimon are about alternate universes where children befriend strange and adorable creatures. If you liked the little monsters in one series, definitely check out the other.

gvatar gvatar says...

Being tailored for children, both Pokemon and Digimon are classics with a deep sense of fantasy and adventure that the young will especially enjoy. Both anime are in a unique genre of monster slavery - eh, I meant friendship - which will no doubt appeal to children who like pets.

Kivan Kivan says...

Pokemon (pocket monsters) & Digimon (digital monsters) are probably the most similar anime out there. Targeting the same audience, both anime focus on a group of children who befriend and use summoned monsters to combat each other. This takes place in various tournaments (Pokemon) or for higher purposes (Digimon). They are so similar that you just can't go wrong! :)

styln styln says...

Pokemon and Digimon are very similar. Each involves kids who must befriend and use strange creatures with various powers, in order to battle. Their journeys lead these kids to encounter many more creatures and meet lots of new friends.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Both series involve little animals or creatures which the main character must battle with against opponents. Both Digimon and Pokemon are more directed at a younger audience and have an innocent quality about them.

Maaka Maaka says...

Both of these anime are about monsters and their human partners. Both rely on battles between said monsters and their partners to carry the viewer's interest.

There are 2 main differences between the two. One is the fact that digimon can talk. The second is that digimon has a battle between good and evil rather than just a journey like Pokemon.

risuta risuta says...

There are similarities between Pokemon and Digimon as far as the conept and the design is concerned.

Both are anime about children and their adventures and journeys along with wierd and cute creatures, and the friendhips and bonds that are created along the way.

So, I believe that you'll like one of them if you liked the other!

Kiakisha Kiakisha says...

They are both about human kids who partner up with animal-like creatures and travel together to save the world and learn more about themselves.

charliechan charliechan says...

since digimon a is a copy of pokemon it is safe to say that if you like you may well like the othe.

Both invloe children teaming up with monsters to over come the problems that they face.

If you liked pokemon or digimon, the other ones just around your corner, they both involve traing your Monster to become the best there is and to defeat the evil monsters, or take over the gym

crawller crawller says...

Both have animal like creatures with supernatural powers.

Almost every Pokemon/Digimon can evolve and become stronger to help their owner.

Both are about training and getting stronger.

Ratiasu Ratiasu says...

They are both bascially the same thing. People with wierd animal creatures who have supernatural powers which do battle. Although Digimon is more on the save the world type anime whilst pokemon is a long journey by this one person. But as long as you like wierd creatures fighting each other you'll like them both

CattyKatty CattyKatty says...

Both have a a bunch of kids that travel with odd creatures. On an adventure to reach their goals and to help save the world from dark forces at hand.

kimmeh kimmeh says...

Both series are about a group of friends, both holding animals and monsters we don't have in our world. The animals and monsteres are used by the people in the anime to fight other animals, in pokemon as a contest and in digimon as survival. If you like Digmon for its characters and monsters, you'll surely like Pokemon too!

Aryon984 Aryon984 says...

The similarities between these two shows are rather noticible straight away, with both shows involving small creatures that help the characters througout the show, with the differences being the point of the help.

Pokemon, are used for thir help in competitions and the such, whilst Digimon, are more for the saving the world and beating the bad guy.

Both with a good sense towards children and adventure, however involoving a small amount of maturity in parts.

A must watch if you like small creatures.

AkumaSama AkumaSama says...

Both series they have kids traveling with a partern that helps them get strong and fight their enemis either to help somebody in danger or to help save the world. so if you like digimon you'd also like pokemon.

Kari5 Kari5 says...

Both of these involve kids, with monster-like pets/friends, who travel around the world. The digimon/pokemon often battle others of their kind, although usually for difference reasons. The kids battle hard, to try and reach a ultimate goal, which seems to take forever to reach. The kids, pokemon, and digimon are always learning about themselves, others, and the world.

DeathCrunch DeathCrunch says...

Pokemon keeps the monsters in balls, Digimon doesn't. Thats basically the only different.

Evolving, fighting, love triangles, journeying, coming of age. Its All there.

starlightknight starlightknight says...

Pokemon and Digimon both are about creatures that are trained in battle. In Pokemon, these creatures are caught in the wild and kept in Pokeballs; they are then called out to battle other Pokemon. In Digimon, the creatures reside in a "Digital World" and are trained and evolved using a "Digivice"

The core concept of the two series is very similar; if you like one you should check out the other.

coldorange coldorange says...

Pokemon and Digimon are the all most the same thing. Kids become freinds with creatures and they go on adventures together. Pokemon is mainly about trying to catch them and fight with them.

LittleChomp LittleChomp says...

Pokemon has the most in common with Digimon seasons 1-2, because there's still a team of kids in a world full of unusual creatures with battles just around every turn. With emphasis on teamwork, strange monsters, and kids who won't accept defeat, these two shows are guaranteed to please the same audience.

Deer50 Deer50 says...

Both have fights with different creatures. Both are similarly animated with similar character designs. There is a strong sense of friendship between the monster and their owner.

Proxy11 Proxy11 says...

Both of them are children shows that I grew up on, they each ultimately center around friendships and responsibility. The children of both shows have companions to aid them in their journeys and to fend off foes. They were good times and still are for todays kids. A lot of early life lessons to be learned.

ScaryDodge ScaryDodge says...

Both stories are about kids which have monsters and use them to fight other monsters where friendship between the monster and his partner will increase as the anime. some differences such as the Pokémon your goal is to collect badges and become the Pokémon master, in the case digimon young kids were trapped in a digital world that needs to be saved. Who liked one will definitely like the other.

miko miko says...

as I am not a fan of digimon one bit, these anime are similar greatly, just because most of the characters don't talk in pokemon via language and digimon they do, that's about the only difference in the long run.  characters battling it out.

LunaOrikawa LunaOrikawa says...

Both are quite similar, mainly about travelling with companions. Lots of battles, friendships, challenges, and hardships.

FlyingMintUnicorn FlyingMintUnicorn says...

Even though it may seem like digimon is a knock-off of pokemon, it actually isn't. They have a different concepts but the evolving of both the pokemon and the digimon are similar. Either way if you like Digimon then you'll like pokemon. If you like pokemon then you'll like digimon!

OkamiHime95 OkamiHime95 says...

These two anime have such a similar concept, so if you love one, you'll surely enjoy the other. They're both about "Monster" raising, (though I personally view them more as creatures) and they've both got good music, and are pretty family friendly.

monster rancher and digimon are basicly the same anime. They both take "real world" children, throw them into a digital world with monsters, give them a monster companion, and they have to defeat some form of evil monsterin the end.

The differences are the digimon world is filled with only digimon and the entire digital world looks and feels digital. While Monster rancher's world is also filled with humans and you often forget that he is, in fact, in a video game world.

Jake1989 Jake1989 says...

Both are monster battle theme anime, with not shortage of action and adventure! Growth of monsters in both play a large part in the story as well as the main characters groth as a person!

if you like monster battle then should should really check it out!

Digimon and Monster Rancher both revolve around digital monsters in an alternate world. In Digimon, the characters are enter a digital world that resides inside their computers; they then meet the digimon, which are trained through the use of "Digivices". Pokemon was the first anime I saw, and after that I saw Digimon.

Both series have monsters in them. In Digimon they just have one, but in Pokemon they can capture the monsters.

I can only say that if you liked one, you will enjoy watching the other one.

BurntFlower BurntFlower says...

Pokemon Advanced and Digimon are both about the symbiotic bond between humans and their perspicacious "monsters" and the trials and tribulations that they go through. Neither of these series is extremely plot-oriented, but prefers to show the characters' daily lives through repetitious battles. Both strongly point out the importance of friendship and team-work, but sometimes border on being too moralistic. It's almost a given that you'll love one series, if you were a fan of the other.

Kiakisha Kiakisha says...

stylomagix stylomagix says...

Pokemon Advanced and Digimon have so much in common, it's a bit infuriating.

As you can see, they both share the last three words: 'mon'. And, thus, both focus on unrealistic monsters and beings.

I have resommended Pokemon Advanced, and not Pokemon, because i think Pokemon Advanced is a bit more developed than Pokemon. And digimon is a developed anime as well.

The only genre difference between Digimon and Pokemon Advanced is that, Digimon hasa dramatic side to itself. So, if you're looking for a drama anime like Digimon, Pokemon isn't the anime for you.

Other than that, a lot of things are similar.

This might seem like a weird recommendation, but Digimon and Zatch Bell are similar. In both series the characters are given a creature to use to fight others. In Zatch Bell the characters receive a mamodo and in Digimon the characters are given a Digimon to use and fight.

Zatch Bell and Digimon work in a very similar fashion. Each person is partnered up with a being capable of fighting and sets out on their quests. Should the fighting partner be defeated, they do not die but simply return to where they came from. Both are full of action and comedy.

Both of these shows feature children who rely upon their digital friends to save the world from danger. In Digimon, the children can actually run and play with their digimon, and in Rockman EXE, they can only talk to their net navis; however, the relationship between the kids and their digital friends is pretty similar. Friendship, awesome powers, and digital enemies- if you enjoy these elements, you should give these shows a chance. :)

Naruto and Digimon offer you a simple concept: any power you can imagine is more than likely a jutsu that a skilled shinobi can execute or a power that belongs to a digital monster somewhere. The sheer scope of the abilities portrayed in these shows is ridiculous. Mix in a team fighting for good, violence as the default problem-solving tool, and a young male target audience, and you've got a solid connection. :)

Element Hunters

Element Hunters

Several decades ago, chemical elements began to disappear from the world, decimating the planet and resulting in the loss of 90% of Earth’s population. However, though the elements have vanished, they aren’t out of reach – they have materialized in Nega Earth, an opposing planet filled with strange monsters that morph into dangerous QEX when they absorb five kinds of positive elements. Normally, Element Hunters - children specially trained to retrieve these elements and battle QEX – travel to Nega Earth alone; but when Homi, Ren and Chiara stumble across a strange old castle, they find themselves chartered with tracking down the elements themselves. With little training, can these children help save the world and stay alive along the way?

MageOnx MageOnx says...

Why Digimon and Element Hunters? Firstly, both series are about kids who are used to be normal until they are suddenly chosen to protect chaos further spreading across the world (in Digimon's case, the digital world, that will, if destroyed, trigger a chain reaction and the same thing would happen to the human world as well, in Element Hunters, to protect the world from further disappearance of elements that are vital for surviving). Secondly, it involves fighting big monsters that are, if destroyed, either turned back to an egg (Digimon) and becomes harmless, or the targeted element is released and obtained and the monster, again, becomes harmless. Thirdly, the characters are simmilar, although rather fewer in EH's case. While EH maybe tends to be a little more mature and serious than Digimon, I think it is regardless a good match, with the same "never give up" feel to it, good music, interesting characters and simmilar humor!
