Well, I haven't been playing against other players yet as I'm still learning it all (so many different yaku's to learn) but I found a great flash game online that is really good for training:

Bar the internet, trying to find actual players to play with round my area would be hard since I doubt many people have heard of the game beyond it's solitaire version. Anyway, just watched up to ep 18 of it and I'm really getting pulled into the tournament now, can't wait for the next episode. (I have no idea why I'm enjoying this series so much either but I don't care =D)

Nope, I didn't dock the sound score for K-On for having English bits in its ending song; it was just a side comment.
As for the bell curve, the reason is to distinguish your ratings. Bell curves give you a broader range to score a series with, and also place particular emphasis on shows you feel are spectacular.
