Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is all about style, from the dj-style scratching scene changes to the hip-hop-inspired soundtrack to the eclectic character design. Mugen's fighting style is a funky meld of capoeira and limb-cutting, and Jin is the dramatic foil; he is all steel and old-school samurai style. What binds them together is the desire to test each other's abilities, and a promise to a girl named Fuu: to find the samurai that smells of sunflowers, who plays a pivotal role in her past. Together they travel through edo-era Japan, finding battle and comedy wherever they stop.

This is the only show I can think of that comes close to Tokyo Tribe 2.

Tokyo Tribe 2 is a funky, action-packed amalgam of different styles and influences, and guess what? So is Samurai Champloo!

Both of the shows don't take themselves too seriously, with over-the-top characters and unrealistic situations. But in the end, they are both really fun to watch.

I'm sure you'll like Samurai Champloo.

Samurai Champloo is the only series I can think of that is similar to Tokyo Tribe 2.

Both series have a very urban theme (TT2 moreso since it's actually about street gangs) to them from the fresh hip-hop soundtracks to the unconventional character art styles.

Durarara!!

Durarara!!

Looking for a change, Mikado moves from the countryside to bustling Ikebukuro to attend the same high school as his best friend, Masaomi. Though navigating a new school and friendships can prove tough by itself, Mikado also finds an overwhelming number of new delights and dangers in the district he now calls home. From a friendly Russian sushi bar to the violent color gangs, to even an urban legend in the form of a black motorcycle rider, each resident of Ikebukuro is unique and frightening. But the town is smaller than it seems at first, and these strange events appear to be connected. Will the growing storm sweep up the transplanted country boy and his friends or will Mikado find himself at the center of a dramatic change for Tokyo?

Both anime are about gangs. In Durara it's the yellow scarves, the blue squares, the dollars, and the saika.

In Tokyo Tribe it's the Saru, The Waru, The Bulldog 045, The Shinjuku Hands, and many others. The main characters are the leaders of the main gangs in both anime. Also, the were very close friends. The climax of both involve all the gangs thrust into chaos, in a war against one another. If you liked one give the other a try.

Shadow06 Shadow06 says...

Both are about gangs in the Tokyo area - just stating the obvious first. While Tribe is a lot more gruesome, brutal and downright R-rated, it has a similar feeling to it as Durarara as you can see the streets up close. Durarara is more fantasy-ish, but then again you could be surprised how many fantasy-ish stuff you cab find in the reality of Tokyo Tribe. But then again...

Tokyo Tribes 2 is really HARDCORE! Be careful!

And well writing this I would mainly like for the huge fandom of Durarara to take a look at one of the hidden treasures of the anime world like Tokyo Tribe 2, but if you get to this reccomendation the other way around, go wastch Durarara, its freaking awesome, actually shame on you if you haven't seen it yet.

Both animes are violent and set in a corrupt world with gangs fighting over territory and power. The level of violence is about the same for both.

You get an introspection into Japanese gangs through these 2 anime although in Tokyo Revengers the protagonist enters the gang and grows in rank while in Tribe the MC is already in I think that if you liked one and wanted more then check out the other for more gang stuff, Tokyo Revengers is more of a slow-burner and Tribe is wackier as it goes on.
