Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
The Rising of the Shield Hero

Shield Hero is currently possibly the best Isekai title that has landed on the market.

I had my doubts at first, even though I heard a lot of good things about the novel. However, the setting sounded a bit trite to me. The protagonist is summoned into a world, betrayed, and then he becomes evil and builds a harem? What should you think of it? - At least that was my thoughts.

The actual result was actually much more positive than expected.

Shield Hero has a very solid implementation of the scenes and events. And accordingly, the first 6 episodes were actually the most interesting part of the whole anime. The tension was there and so was the interest to pursue the series further.

Later, when his real adventure began, the tension dissipated and it became a somewhat active adventure title with politics up to its sleeve.

The greatest strengths of the series are definitely in the implementation, sympathy, and the protagonist.

The problem with Shield Hero, however, is that it has little fan service, but mostly questionable fan service (also the scene with the naked Filo).
And on the other hand the tension bow. The first 6 episodes were very interesting, by episode 16 the tension was fading but not entirely lost. The last 6 episodes were actually quite weak and had almost no tension anymore. Which actually disappointed me.

It was only the introduction to the story, so we saw less plot here. But you could definitely have prevented the season from slipping down from the halfway point and continue to increase the quality.

Story

The approach to the plot has been okay. Summoned into a world to serve his purpose as a hero. Instead, he will be betrayed and robbed of his honor. His trust in other people is destroyed and from then on he denies away as a loner to be able to return to his home.

Meanwhile, we see more of his psychological development and personality. There are also some hints of the actual plot in the course of the first season, which so far has only played in the background and is only hinted at around episode 25.

Regarding the first season, the plot isn't exactly overwhelming, but it is interestingly presented and implemented.

Animation / pictures

Very fluctuating animations. Some scenes were extremely fluid and the rendering was first class. Others were very monotonous and devoid of dynamism.

The environment was mostly slightly above average, nothing more.

Characters

This was definitely the area that entertained me the most.

Not only does the anime have some really hateful written personalities, average supporting characters, but also some sympathy packages.

The protagonist is clearly one of the better characters you can find in the anime scene. He is intelligent, inquisitive, calculated, and anything but hateful. At least after his change, before you probably just want to stroke his head.

The female protagonist is so far somewhat devoid of development, but her personality is very pleasant and personable. As well as their dialogues and actions. Certainly the most interesting of the female characters.

The third protagonist is usually the kind of character I hate the most. But strangely it was different here. She had some kind of subliminal liking that I just couldn't hate her for. Your screen time was actually pleasant.

The fourth protagonist of the harem comes later and is mostly average. Has not had any scenes worth mentioning or built up great sympathy so far.

The antagonists and the traitors were also quite interestingly written characters, whether they were evil or simply pathetic hypocrites. They have shown this well here.

Music

The intros are both visually appealing, especially the first one. It also has an interesting depiction of what happened to the protagonist.

Of the melody, only Intro 1 is worth mentioning.
Intro 2, however, is very weak.

Most positively, however, the Osts surprised me. They fit the setting very nicely, and they have also well underlined the scenes.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the best Isekai title on the market so far. I let myself be spoiled by the novel, so I know what the audience will see and see the great potential behind it. However, it is in the hands of the studio whether they are up to the implementation or whether the series mutates into a fan service appeal.

Hello folks!

Welcome to our talk about "The Rising of the Shield Hero"

This is a great adventure, and pushes all the buttons for a 'dense story'.

All the characters have a back story. Events have development (I know this stuff is not liked by young viewers), but this story has so many elements, that confusion will result unless the viewer understands everyrhing. So a lot of the plot(s) deal in things that surprise and hold the interest of the viewer.

As a back story for the show, this was the first anime to make slavery a front line topic. It also discusses false rape in a believable fashion (in the US, on college campuses where a student female accuses a fellow with rape, 80% are found to be false accounts).

But with social justice warriors, facts have little meaning. Twitter became a place for major accusations from these people, and 'Shield Hero' was getting destroyed.

Until the author of the story was discovered to be female. Discussion on Twitter died in days, and the anime moved forward without further trouble.

------

Now we can talk about this, anime. The music is excellent. Video is absolutely top-fligjt. Story has no weaknesses. This show would make an excellent live action movie.

While this, story includes a 'stranger in a strange land' plot, it is very well drawn as a story, and the characters and events, and the dialog; move the story forward properly.

Notice I include no story event detsils. This is not a story to be argued over by people who haven't seen it. So watch it, and enjoy it.

------

As a personal aside, I will not watch other seasons of this anime, second seasons include gender bender elements and I won't watch them. But there is nothing problematic about the first season.

Enjoy, and fall in love with the characters.. I even like the villains <grin>.

Decent animation, and horrible anime. it's like they took the worst thing from movies and put them into one anime, let's give a few tiny spoilers:

People are after them on foot, so let's not use a giant bird to get away from them fast, let's move slowly so they cal kill us (just like lord of the rings)

Everyone wants to kill you in this country, let's stay in even though the other friendly country wants us.

wanna save a princess, 6 people.... nah too easy, let us wait only we have to attack a castle instead

dudes kills and tortures people even a princess, lets let him go

anime is kinda horrible

seen 15 episodes

There are 2 things that's bad about it:

1. The three other heroes other than the shield hero are totally useless and have little character, let alone character development. They are heroes too, but they have no usefulness whatsoever. They're pretty dumb too, like how thickskulled can you be!

2. The character called "The First Princess" has no development whatsoever. She hates the shield hero, but for no apparent reason, and even after all her efforts resulted in failure, she still hates him! For no reason! And the Spear Hero is also by far the stupidest character who believes everything she says. There is nothing in these people's skulls.

The good things about it are-

1. The Shield hero has pretty good development, and realizations. Shield Hero's friends also have pretty good development, I loved them.

3. The lore is pretty mysterious, there's many otherworldly forces that we don't know about, and that makes it very surprising when things reveal.

I really liked it after the pathetic conflict with the Royalty was settled down. It was fun to watch. I recommend, but don't expect it to be better than 7.5 out of 10. I gave it a 9 because I loved the characters so much.
