That was an hour or so of my life I'm never getting back. Magical Somera-chan is a short series (12 episodes at 3+ minutes a piece) about absolutely nothing. There are four girls: Somera (pink hair), her sister with blond hair (could never remember her name), a girl with dark hair, and a girl with brown hair. Somera has a magical hand that she uses to make life easy but it always backfires. And odd, violent, and sometimes disturbing things happen around them. That's the plot folks. It's twelves episods of randomness that they don't even attempt to hold together and it all depends if you like their style of comedy or not. My husband laughs constantly but I think it got two cuckles from me from the whole series. This is very much a show where your milage my vary. I found the animation to be really poor. Many are in these short animes but this one I found almost lazy at times. The sound was okay except some of the voices annoyed me but as those were for characters that annoyed me (Somera being the key example) that just seemed par for the course. In the end, this is a series you'll have to try more than take anyone's opinion on. If you like comedy with at least a sembelance of plot (like me), this is probably not for you but if it's comedy works for you, that's great. It's short and easy to watch.
Story Wut. Animation Ranges from adequate to complete shit. Points for yuri-animation, and more points from those shitty ass drawings in the EP. Also reminds me of Ai Mai Mii, which also looks like shit. Basically, it's shit. Sound FUCKSHITFUCK FUCK EVERYFUCKING THING ABOUT THAT FUCKING SHITTY ASS FUCK EP I CANNOT TAKE ANY MORE OF IT MAN I FUCKING CANNOT TAKE ANY MORE OF THAT VOICE I WILL BURY IT IN A PILE OF ITS OWN BLOATED SEA DRENCHED CORPSES FROM THE DROWNED GOD THE GOD OF THE SEA WILL TAKE ALL OF YOU C'GRECSDF DFDSL'OOSFS CD'TTEEWA'TT But episode 6 or so had this real great EP; magnificent voice, meaningful lyrics relative to whatever shit was going on in the show and it was so serenely beautiful that I cried. It is the complete opposite of most of the other episodes, most since another one had a great piece that was purely instrumental and was absolutely gorgeous. Great stuff for these two episodes. Music as a whole is on two sides of the spectrum: Shit and Amazing and not really anything in between. Characters One is the red-head, another is the sister (Blondie or Other), the third is the other of those two and the fourth is the brunette who is the butt monkey but really isn't since red sometimes gets kicked to the curb. They are generally jerkass friends which makes one wonder who would be friends with them if not for their house being your shelter from the storm of the outside world. Overall Hell if I was going to go into depth on all the bullshit that went on. Each episode is something different, varying in quality and decency. Pretty much hit or miss but for a half hour and change series, it could be worse. This has been another DAMC presentation review on some random ass show that somehow turns into some pseudo-slice of life shit that I don't even- Man, fuck it. I give up.
Should you watch it: if you have 30 mins it's not too bad. Watched this anime for the monthly marathon. Probably would have not watched it otherwise. Especially something ranked only 2 stars, but to my surprise, it wasn't bad. STORY: The story is very episodic and each episode is only a little longer than 2 minutes. While most shows usually are unable to give a decent story in such a short time, Fushigi na Somera-chan manages to do a decent job and give me a laugh. ANIMATION: Really good colors and outlines. SOUND: The intro and ending are really catchy, but that’s it. CHARACTERS: no character development or really any decent or original character designs. OVERALL: I give it a 7 (50 percentile). It was pretty decent and gave me a good 10 laughs over the 30 mins, more than I could say about others. So if you have the time I’d check it out. Not sure why it’s rate so poorly, other than the nuisance that I have to click something every 3 minutes to get to the next episode.
