Fate/stay night

Feb 26, 2018

Fate Stay night is nothing short of a Japanese twist on Arthurian Legend. While there are those who can plausibly argue it explores other types of epic stories like Greek epics, these characters are ultimately used to compare their tales to those of our main character, who is plucked directly from Arthurian legend. It is refreshing in its perspective on certain heroes while keeping the integrity of the original legends they come from. It is fairly original, albeit with a handful of easily spotted tropes: Genderswap being the obvious one, shy girl and helium voice stereotypes... See full review

Fate/Apocrypha

Feb 26, 2018

I don't generally submit a review halfway through a story, but I haven't been this upset with bad storytelling by TypeMoon before. I would expect such poor story-design from the idiots of Hollywood or (since the Last Jedi was this bad) maybe Disney, but not these animators. Don't get me wrong, the drawing, the effects, the vibrant heroic spirits who we explore the lives of in the process of witnessing them clash is as top notch as ever. However, Hollywood and Disney have more than proven that any fool can make flashy scenes and cool action if they put enough money and effort into them. The reason... See full review

Full Metal Panic!

Mar 7, 2017

There are few things more gratifying than a story with a good plot, good characters that grow and interact with each other, that progresses to a climax and a satisfactory ending. I've never given 5 stars to an anime before. Usually I find one aspect droops- most commonly the ending, or the premise. However after watching FMP, I found no such shortcomings. Full metal Panic does all. It doesn't sell itself as anything extra, and it doesn't come up short in any department.

The characters are varied, entertaining, and relatable -even the ones we ought not to be able to relate so well to. In this... See full review

The Seven Deadly Sins

Mar 7, 2017

We all love a good romp every so often, and The Seven Deadly Sins provides that quite well. With a charming premise, pleasant pacing, and well-presented fight scenes, there is much to love. I myself found the series worth the viewing if only for Hoc, the talking pig. That said, there are admirable attributes exist in all of them, and each seems to become even more lovable as time goes on. My only qualm is the unnecessary fanservice and juvenile attitudes occasionally thrown into the mix, as they don't advance the story in any constructive manner. However this is only a minor issue, and... See full review

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion

Mar 6, 2017

If its the final installment, someone is too dense to realize the story is only half told. I find Hangyaku no Monogatari satisfactory proof that a bad worldview can be painful to anyone with an inkling of sense. The ending of the first series was so fractured and inconsistent that it came as no suprise to me that the makers were hijacking the author's work and rendering much of the orignal intended theme null. Nobody likes when a story tries to disguise itself as logical but isn't. Part 3, entitled Rebellion, sets it up so Homura has a chance to pull a "Dr. Who" on Madoka with her... See full review

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Mar 6, 2017

So well done.
So elegently presented.
Such vibrant characters
What a rotten worldview!  ... Let me try to explain:

I was saddened that the writer had such a lost perspective. The endemic problem with Madoka Magica's ending is that it tries to imply a dualistic worldview of 'balance' subsumes the conflict of good and evil when in truth anyone with a honed sense of logic and perspective can tell you its the reverse. We live in a beautiful, but flawed world. "Fallen" to coin the phrase. What 'ought to' be, isn't. However the fact that we know there IS an 'ought... See full review

Overlord

Mar 6, 2017

A friend raved to me how good this series was, and I first got to watching it to see what made him like the characters so. Perhaps I'm not getting the Idea behind this story, so anyone, feel free to comment and explain the novelty here! So far the more I watch the main character, the more I despise him. At first, I just thought it was because I generally dislike stories that try to make out inherently evil beings as just misunderstood good things, and since the story is about a player living out the role of a lich in a video game, I felt I needed to be accommodating and give it a thorough...
