Both start with weak MC getting stronger and stronger. And the MC are carismatic and the action is very run to read.

Halfpicture Halfpicture says...

They start out incredibly similar. They both have the same motivation (mom is in a coma and I need to pay her medical bills). They both start out incredibly weak and get hurt all the time, and become a busted, unbalanced badass over time. They both even use some of the same terms for things like Hunters and Awakened. They both take place in South Korea. I feel like they are too similar for it to just be a coincidence, but I can't figure out which one came first. Then again I don't really mind all that much since they're both good, and maybe I am Sorcerer King will actually have developed characters.

LadyMew LadyMew says...

Both are Korean manga that have weak to strong protagonists. They are both constantly working to get stronger.

Alvaaruus Alvaaruus says...

They both follow the dungeon popping out of nowhere setting, also both MC's become the strongest in the world. The greatest difference is that Solo leveling focuses on Sung Jin Woo creating a great army of shadows and the Sorcerer King on him developing a nation, combat team and controlling the world flow through this measure. They are very similar, if you like one I can almost garantee that you will like the other

This is copied from my recommendation for the webtoon adaptations of these stories:

As a reader of Solo Leveling--the webtoon adaptation and the original Webnovel (multiple times)--one of the things I liked about the story was how details gradually revealed themselves over time. There was enough information in the beginning to walk alongside the protagonist Sung Jin-Woo, but enough questions that kept popping up to keep me interested and invested. Trash of the Count's Family has been great in the same fashion.

This dynamic makes it a nice read amongst other stories where the protagonist is now living in a story they have read before. This is not a romance story. But for an omniscient reader there are still unknowns that are affecting how things play out. If you pay attention, readers will also notice that the protagonist of Trash of the Count's Family has read only a portion of entire series he was reading. He knows a lot. But only up to a point.

Where mysteries, surprises and questions keep you interested, Solo Leveling and Trash of the Count's Family both fill that itch in a way that satifies me and keeps me into it.

You also get to read a protagonist--and others in Trash of the Count's Family--who gets to do cool things as they become very powerful over time and events.

One more comparable point for both stories is what we don't know about both protagonists. There is no omniscient "the protagonist is like this" descriptions. Even if we know some of their thoughts we have to infer what their personalities are like through their actions instead. This means we don't know if they will become more twisted down the line, keep a moral code, develop a moral code, or perhaps draw the line in places that are seen in their actions as circumstances present themselves in the story. Sung Jin-Woo and Cale Henituse/Kim Rok Soo both need to "survive" and we are not entierly sure what their moral code is, what choices they will make with the power they have.

I know who Sung Jin-Woo turns out to be as a character from beginning to end. I love his character. Cale/Kim Rok Soo has continued to be an interesting character over the course of his story. I still think I don't quite have his character down, and that is nice for his story.

The Legendary Mechanic (Novel)

Using his past life's knowledge, Han Xiao sweeps through the universe as he prepares for the arrival of the players.

Both of the main protagonists have a similar advantage in their respective worlds with their leveling systems, have somewhat similar personalities, and have many other similarities without spoiling. both are very enjoyable to read and hard to put down. the main difference is that only i level up is more down to earth while the legendary mechanic world feels much bigger. if you enjoyed one for the fun and quirky mc, worldbuilding, power system, fight scenes, and more, you will likely enjoy the other.

Max Level Newbie (Novel)

Max Level Newbie (Novel)

A world where all of the greatest in all dimensions have gathered. Three out of five were the strongest in their world, and one of them was considered the strongest in history. A crazy world where a wandering goblin would be above level 90. Asgard, otherwise known as “Heaven above the heavens.” In a world where all of the monsters of the worlds meet, Vulcan’s new adventure begins.

The S-Classes That I Raised (Novel)

The S-Classes That I Raised (Novel)

An F-Class Hunter. And on top of that, a F-class older brother who can’t even begin to catch up to the heels of his amazing S-class little brother. After living a life that fell to pieces and even destroying my little brother’s life, I picked up the following resolution: “Perfect Caregiver”. That’s right, this time, instead of becoming mean, I will quietly support those who are more capable. Is what I thought... but the S-classes are kind of… weird.

The setting for both worlds is very similar. The only difference is that ranks can change in S-classes that I Raised, while Hunter levels in Solo Leveling can't.

Both also have elements of creature gathering stories (though strangely Solo Leveling feels more like a creature-gather between the two, despite The S'classes that I Raised having a literal magic pet daycare in it).

My name is Jicheok Eum. Just an ordinary hunter assistant. I was living diligently while cleaning up the corpses of monsters. But one day, my grandfather who passed away long back appeared in my dream, and after that… ‘People began giving me likes and I awakened as a hunter.’ Grandpa, was this the reason you named your grandson Jicheok Eum? both are hunters and dungeons novels

both MCs go from weak to strong and become overpowered

both MCs work their asses off to prevent the apocalypse

both MCs become gods

both are amazing stories I gave full stars to (two of the very few), the characters are well written, plots are intriguing, supporting characters are well developed, they are overoll really worth reading.

both have a manhwa, although Thumbs up's translation has been dropped. (Solo Leveling manhwa is complete)
