Anime with a good villain.

I don't like how the villain is often portrayed as crazy or lacking empathy. The best villains have a skewed view of the world, or use violent attacks to change a wrong in the world. Cheering for the hero is great, but being torn between hating and agreeing with the villain, in my opinion, is much better.

Here are some picks from me:
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/berserk -Griffith has got to be one of the most complex villains I have seen for a series.
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/my-hero-academia-4 -It took a while, but it finally reached that point in the series where I enjoyed a major villain in MHA. I like the reasoning behind Overhaul's actions, but I think Gentle felt the most relatable.
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/vinland-saga -Askeladd is also a good villain, from the methods he uses to achieve his goals.
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/the-promised-neverland -I also like where Isabella comes from as a villain, the choices she had to make to keep living.
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/yu-yu-hakusho -Not a lot is shown with Toguro right off the bat, but after he becomes the catalyst for the Dark Tournament, that's when things get interesting.

And there you go. Hope I helped you out there!

Fate/stay night
Future Diary

Both of these are battle royale anime where the enemies are a combination of lunatics and honorable characters, but the hero has to fight them just the same.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These This anime features 2 brilliant tacticians on opposite factions of a massive war. Which one you choose to cheer for is up to you.
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online You gave this a 4/5 but also dropped it after 2 episodes. I'm not really sure what to make of that but I do think it kind of fits what you are looking for. While the villain is a bit crazy, she is also someone who the main character looks up to.

I'd 100% reccomend checking out The Unlimited - Hyoubu Kyousuke.

It's one of those shows where you get to know the main villain so well that you could honestly consider him a dual-protagonist. He's literally running a terrorist organization which causes tons of destruction, but you eventually get to know him and understand how he got to this point and why he's trying to start a revolution. It's technically a spin-off from a different series, but you don't need to watch that in order to fully appreciate this show (I didn't and had no issues).

Seconding Vinland Saga and Promised Neverland, to add some:

Psycho-Pass: Very relatable villain whose arguments make sense.
Monster: Very hard to not mention one of the most famous villains of anime of all time. Wonder how this has yet to be mentioned.
Death Note: Many people hate him, I find him very entertaining, since he is smart.
Durarara!!: By far my favorite character from this show is the main villain, since his mishief and love for poking into everything adds really a great tone to the story.
Code Geass: The main character is probably even the main villain?

You should watch "Monster," if you want a masterpiece of anime with an amazing antagonist, this is your story. The anime 74 episodes long, it has characters with good development, culture, and an incredible story filled with suspense.

Personally, if you're looking for a good villain. I'd recommend JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. However, the main villain, Yoshikage Kira, doesn't get properly introduced to the viewer until a good few episodes in. Despite this, he's fantastic. He's undeniably a murderous psychopath, but he doesn't initially have any intention of hurting or disturbing anyone besides his victims. He just wants to live a quiet life, in his own way, without having to worry about having friends or enemies. Of course, it's impossible for our heroes to just let this man get what he wants, so they set out to stop him.

There's Noragami...there are a few villains for different arcs and you'll only get the main villain in the last episodes of the second season. In my opinion, you would have to read the manga to get to know this villain more.
But I like this villain and can't just hate him for some reason. He's very interesting and I believe he has his reasons for doing what he does.

Good old Death Note, I think. Yagami Light really WAS a vilain, but he killed people for a good purpose. He wanted to change the world. Make it better.

Monster is the go-to if you want something a bit more mature. Its villain, Johan Liebert, is one of the best in any medium, not just anime.
