Both anime have many different Lords of Kingdoms that wage wars against each other looking for either, ownership of all or for the greater good of all their people. The Twelve Kingdoms is fictional fantasy where Romance of the Three Kingdoms has real Chinese history mixed into the stories but watching them both i can see that The Twelve Kingdoms was highly influenced by Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the way everything is set up. If you liked one check out the other.

RotTK and Twelve Kingdoms are two political epics that stand on top of their genre. RotTK is more about the battles and political games with ancient China as setting, where Twelve Kingdoms lays more focus on the wellbeing of the kingdoms and its fantasy setting. Minor differences aside, the two have quite a similar feel to them. If you liked one of them, you will enjoy the other.

Both shows take place in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms stories. Souten Kouro mainly focuses on Cao Cao where Romance of the Three Kingdoms takes a look at everyone but has Liu Bei as the main main character. Check either of these out if you want more Romance of the Three Kingdoms goodness.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

The war between the monarchical Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance has raged ceaselessly across the galaxy for over a century, with the fleets of both powers having fought countless battles. Currently the conflict revolves around the strategic Iserlohn Corridor, one of only two passages of space through which the two forces can access each other. Here the Empire has built the nigh-impregnable Iserlohn Fortress, whose deadly weaponry has thwarted repeated efforts by the Alliance to capture her. Phezzan, a neutral mercantile state, controls the other corridor. The long war has resulted in an indecisive stalemate, but there are two men from the two worlds who will change everything: Wen-Li Yang, a gifted strategist from the Alliance who wants nothing more than to retire and be a historian; and Reinhard von Lohengramm, a man from the Empire whose ambition knows no bounds. Their loves, struggles, triumphs and failures play across an interstellar stage of intrigue, war and death.

Both anime have a lot of war tactics implemented into them. it can take several episodes for each army to plan and discuss what they are going to do before ever doing anything. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is different by being in space and making up a totally new universe while Romance of the Three Kingdoms does have some real chinese history to it but both have the epic feeling of one group of people wanting to do good for the whole by following their own ideals. There is no clear definition of who is bad and who is good because both (all) sides are fighting for what they believe is right. If you liked one check out the other.

Have you ever wondered what Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, or Liu Bei would look like as Gundams? I know I have! SD Gundam answers this perfectly and hey if you are interested in the real story without the sillyness of gundams involved there's always the original to watch. Die hard ROTK fans will certainly enjoy both of these titles.

Both shows tell the same story of the historic Chinese epic "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", with the same basic plot and characters. Great Conquest is the shorter of the two and has the added bonus that the characters actually LOOK Chinese, but the Romance of the Three Kingdoms TV series goes into more detail and gets much farther along in the story.
