I'm not sure what's up with the code that's displaying, we didn't change anything and I'm not seeing that issue, so it's most likely your browser. Perhaps plugins/extensions that are installed and are causing these issues, etc.
As for the forum stuff, I really do appreciate the suggestions, but like I said it's a harder problem than it seems on the surface, and we've investigated all options. We hope to have an intermediary solution up soon but who knows when "soon" is or how successful we'll be. Rest assured we're working on it and are exploring all options.
If you only just registered you never would have seen the feed - it's a friend feed, think of your wall on Facebook. It's like that.
As for the design options there are no plans to allow access to any old design choices. No design choice makes 100% of the userbase happy, so it's not surprising that some people dislike it. But, like many change we're hoping it grows on the people who don't like it in time :) we're also rolling out other 'modern' design changes across the site, so it will look less one-off in the future.
As for the lack of updates, usually if I have no updates, I don't post 'there's no update' as that seems pointless to me. However, I'm going to attempt to do a monthly "Development update" thread in the forum site announcements starting at the end of the month, which will essentially say just that (no updates) if there aren't any. I'm constantly doing 800 things on the site so the chance of me sticking with it flawlessly probably wont happen, but yeah.
Just wanted to note, that I didn't want to give a wrong impression earlier. sothis is VERY hardworking, and dedicates a LOT of time to this site and making improvements. I really respect that. A lot.
My comment about her feeling comfortable with the status quo, therefore, was unfair to her. I said it because there had been apparently no action taken on the Forum registration, since no new updates have been posted in a long time letting us know what's going on. And closed Forum is sooooooo frustating to me!
sothis has since told me she's tried working with a number of developers, and things just haven't clicked yet, so she's still in progress with the merger, and that she hasn't let opening up the Forum again slip to a lower priority. I was soooo happy to hear that things were still being attempted and that hope really isn't gone! And happy to finally hear SOMETHING on this subject!

I ensure you that getting the merge launched is a top priority, and the motives you suggested are simply not true. It's not that it 'doesnt matter for new members', it's that it's a very, very, very hard problem technically. Doing what you suggested is basically the merge - cleaning up users who don't match is extremely challenging to do in an automated way, linking the accounts is extremely challenging, etc. We have struggled to find a developer who has this very specific skillset for some time now, and with only a small handful of volunteer developers that keep the site running (unlike MAL or other sites that are owned by giant companies and have corporate funding and teams of developers), there's constant priorities and issues we have to balance. Plus, as mentioned, it's a very specialized skillset that we are still trying to fill.

They are a priority, believe me. And I agree that it's taking too long, and I wish I could fix that. I wish more than anything it was done this very moment, but it's a very tall task and one that we're still working on solving.

In the meantime we're getting close to relaunching the feed (not RSS, the activity feed), which has been down for even longer (over a year), so change is still afoot. The feed is so popular that literally any post I make on any social media channel ever gets a barrage of 'when is the feed coming back?' from everyone. We will continue to try to get the forum merge launched as best we can, but hopefully I've cleared things up about this being an easy choice or process.
Just for you, I'll forego using my usual italics - they are a part of my identity here on the site, and I use them to differentiate my words from the other person's (whose words I also include in my reply so they can better remember what we are talking about.) Also I can't find the like button... where is it? And the mean stuff that I have to say is that I have very poor vision... some people seem to think that italic make the text pretty like calligraphy. It doesn't, it merely looks crooked and harder to read. And calligraphy is for titles anyway... not to read entire books or threads for hours... so trying to read you is a struggle. You're an awesome person and I want to be friends, but overcoming social phobia is already a hard challenge, I don't know if I'd have the courage to decypher crooked pixels... and I wish I could learn japanese but even if I had a functional memory, I can't see such details properly T_T. I can accommodate your request and not use the italics you find so hard to read. LOL To me, the italics are a way to differentiate my words as mine, and I don't feel they are not just crooked pixels.
