If I had time to rank my least favorite characters in order, I'd put Gendo Ikari somewhere in the middle. Even so, he doesn't irritate me quite as much as other characters in anime.
Kagome Higurashi on the other hand really ticks me off, but she's the reason I lean more toward adult female characters like Mylene, Fujiko, Motoko, Psiren (basically the Catwoman of Fullmetal, but sexier), Hamon Crowley and even Julia. Adult women are hard to come by in anime these days.
Well, not exactly T.S Eliot (there are other advanced novelists), but you know what I mean and I couldn't agree more. Oh! and I remember seeing Gendo Ikari in your least favorite characters "roster". He's a terrible father and I'm glad that he couldn't surpass the system, much less transcend or circumvent the laws of physics in the 1997 movie (still has lovely animations thanks to I.G.).
Not only is shounen action out of style, but so are shounen romcoms (which are usually ecchi and harem or just plain unoriginal). Those are the kind of novels (which require virtually no skill to read) investors want to spend their money on adapting while studios get limited creative freedom everyday. I would rather see an adaptation of MechWarrior or some college-level literature (T.S Eliot and Octavia Butler are far more advanced than the likes of Eiichiro Oda).
