Well, the start of Serendipity was amazing. The characters felt believeable, there was some nice character development, and some interesting character interactions. And then... it just went downhill. The second half of the series felt incredibly rushed, the characters seemed to loose their spark, and the ending just left me feeling unsatisfied.
The main character, David, is the sole heir of a rich family, who has come to dispise humans, instead preferring to spend his days with his beloved animals, who for some reason he can talk to (that always struck me as odd, but whatever). When his grandmother takes away all his animals, he determinedly sets out to find them all, only to land up getting robbed. He finally arrives at an inn, only to find his dog outside. There he meets a young girl, who's determinedly persuing her passion of art, despite being so poor. Then, well, I mean, it's a shoujo romance, what do you expect happens? Their relationship development was pretty cute at first, but at some point it felt suddenly bland. It was quite strange, almost as if another writer took over halfway through.
David, the main character, is actually super cute. He's super antisocial in quite a spectacular way, but although he likes to think he's a mean guy, he's a pretty big softie. The main girl is basically your typical shoujo heroine. Her family is super cute as well - it's very hard not to like them.
For fans of shoujo, especially historical shoujo, you'll probably love the first half of the series, and be mildly dissapointed at the second. If shoujo is not your usualy cup of tea, I still think it's just different enough that from the typical one that it might hold your interest for the first half, but I imagine you'll loose interest quickly in the second. If you don't like shoujo at all, then yeah, just avoid this series.
