No shame here. You all would not handle her situation any better. If your father figure was called a mass murderer and had no proof, would you believe them? She has been seen playing with children and giving tours to newcomers, without even knowing if their political stance aligns with hers. Yes, she is mentally deranged. This is anime. You had it coming. But you have to take into account that her sadism is only one facet of who she is, and that she does not sit around muttering vulgarities about those who do not choose her twisted idea of justice. She has friends and family members she does things with.
Is she a horrible person? Yes. Is she heartless? Not even close.
