This'll be brief.

  • Good animation
  • Good sound
  • Concept is good, in concept only
  • When it focuses on the tragedy & tension of the world's state of events, that's when it's best
  • Poor cast
  • Horrible execution

What holds it back is exactly the same thing that it's known for: The girls being pieces of meat ie. Ecchi.

This was one of my first anime right here, before i developed standards.

I was drawn into it for the zombies; This was back during LEFT 4 DEAD's peak, and Zombieland was dropped around that time.

It was the era of Zombies baby, i couldn't afford to play L4D, Zombieland was a good movie, and so I hopped into this trash heap hoping to get the same quality. BOY was I wrong, i learned really really quick what makes alot of "anime", exactly that, Anime = Quality production, ZERO imagination or vision

Talented Artistic spectacle wasted on hormonal indulgence.

The first Episode is strongest because of the execution of the outbreak in the school itself. The calm before the nuclear fucking blast. It balanced the chaos & panic perfectly. And if the entire anime was that level of tense, it would be better.

Despite it being Ecchi, it didn't have to go this hard with it. Because the sheer budget/quality of animation that could've been spared for bigger set pieces later in the anime, is wasted on jiggle physics, holding back what could've been a story rivalling L4D's guady aesthetic itself, and sometimes it tried to.

  • And as usual none of the characters actually clap, so all the teasing is exactly that teasing, zero payoff because nobody ever does anything. Garbage.
  • Commit to what you're setting up or don't even do it, and it's even more creepy because these characters despite their physiques are in reality school kids.

The characters are all archetypes, the best character is KOTA, period. A nerd that was bullied, and now an unleashed beast that lets out his own inner monster. A weapon freak that gets to be himself in the apocalypse. Kota is the best character.

  • He's what you get when someone repressed doesn't have to pretend to be weak anymore, he's a chubby built guy (underrepresented), and he's awesome.

The rest are fodder, indicated by their hair color & one note traits, completely forgot their names beside Saeko, I remember her for beating some perv within an inch of his life, the Matrix titty moment, and her getting molested by a guy she likes because her head wasn't in the game, he was squeezing her breast (singular) like it was a damn stressball.

  • The dumbest shit I've ever seen in my life.

Excellent concept, because funny enough the entire anime could've just been them trying to survive the different floors of the Highschool because the name of the anime is "HIGHSCHOOL OF-" but they're there about an Episode and a half, By EP5 they're not even in the School district.

Author just thought "Highschool" in the title would get the traction, and it did. Cause Japan's Manga Industry is suffering a severe case of suspended development, everything's in either Highschool or some fantasy world. Peter Pan Syndrome, afraid to grow up, and too much of the industry suffers because of it.

Horrible cast (with Kota being an exception), excellent beginning, story overall is garbage, overall underwhelming because everyone has plot armor no one in the main cast dies or suffers a real consequence. Which would've enhanced the story stakes ten fold. But the point is Zombies + Underage titties, not a good story.

Intense action scenes (at times when the show is not making an of itself with the virginservice) They even end up on an island same as the L4D crew after sacrifice dlc.

  • Zoey in L4D wasn't a piece of meat, she was perky, ready 4 action and always ready to cut the tension with a joke, but she was useful, & she had an actual personality beyond her measurements. And she got even more characterization in the comics.

If this anime treated their female characters with more of that energy, this anime would have more to offer. Why? Because the majority of the squad are women, and majority of them get the same exact treatement. Gets stale, really, really, REALLY fast. They even recruit a token loli. Classy.

Very awkward, very trashy series of episodes. One of my first Anime, will never watch it again, not even as a punishment.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

NOW, If you haven't seen it before, watch it just to see what wasted potential looks like. And the unintentional comedy that is how hard it tries to be an ecchi, when it's clearly meant to play it straight and just be a good story.

It's like the Anime's own tone is wrestling with it's itself. Because when it's serious, is when it's so close to being good.

Otherwise. as for recommended on quality? Absolutely not.

95% Trash, the other 5% is the memes. You can just go on Youtube to see that.

Demograph: 12-18

I didn't hate it, but this anime couldn't stand still long enough to plan it's escape.

The very poorly written narrative scrapes together fragmented "zombie movie" ideas and sticks them together with glue made from boobs.

The reason I didn't like it is that it couldn't take itself seriously enough. Not in an Ace-Ventura way, either. There was no pride in the storytelling. Boob and panty shots are so overused that they lose the "sneaky peek" element, which is what I had previously thought was the entire point of their existence.

The character designs are really ugly, and the voices are as annoying as they are stereotypical.

Whatevs. Watched it to the end, but only because it was so light-weight that it barely required concentration. That, and my girlfriend liked it.

The scores for this are all over the place.  Character development is...Well nearly non existant along with the story...Yet it still gets an 8?

Thats simple. This anime doesn't exist to be serious. Doesn't exist to develop some amazing characters and in no way exists to have a deep and meaningful story. No this anime exists for one simple reason. To screw around and have a good time.

The action and amount of fan service in this is boarderline stupid...well not borderline it is stupid...But unlike other anime who are like this HOTD never tries to hide the fact that this is exactly what its trying to do. This is even more present in the english dub with some of the downright aweful one liners and stuff they come out with. This anime gets a high score because it never tries to hide what it is.

Its an anime for guys who just wanna sit back have a laugh and look at anime girls bodies that are over the top drawn (even if your like me and that kinda stuffs not really your thing its still kinda funny how many panty shots they can get into such a small space of time...You can make some dangerous drinking games using this show and panty shots)

If you do what HOTD does and not take it seriously you will likely find yourself enjoying it in spite of your self...Throw it on if your looking for cheap stupid laughs and you're gonna enjoy it....Looking for soemthing serious...Stay away

This anime contains a lot of Eechi and that spoils a bit of the horror part in this anime, in my opinion, but otherwise I found myself addicted till I watched the last episode that had came out. The story is very much like that movie: Resident Evil, with just a bit more deeper history. The characters in the anime are a bit shallow and steriotyped, but meh - I coulden't care less. It really gived me a great break from all the drama and endless fights that usually happen in most animes, and gave me a fine dose of fear. I acetually needed to take my cat in my lap and pet her in some parts.

Altough the eechi part of the anime spoils it alot, I coulden't help but give it a hig rank. In my opinion, tough, this anime is more suited for the aged of 14 - 16 (I'm 15) because it is too mild for the minds of 18+ year olds, at least that's what I heard from the rewievs here.

You should really try watching it ^^
