Story: Story-wise, the anime follows two seperate worlds that each have an emotional tether to each other. The main world is about a middle schooler named Mato who is trying to be a good basketball player in her school's sports club and make new friends, especially with a girl named Yomi. I don't know how many people reading this grew up on late-night anime from Adult Swim, the block of programming on Cartoon Network. This, for me, was one of the big ones — right after Full Metal Alchemist and Inuyasha, I'd say. It's a twelve minute... movie, I guess, so I'm not going to bother writing a full review rating everything like I usually do. A dog is plagued by memories of people who are long dead... in fact, mysteriously, every person ever is dead. The dog is the only living thing left on the planet, and just wants someone to throw a ball. The anime relies on visuals and flashbacks into the dogs memories (not important things like how the world got that way, but memories of a ball in a meadow). Story: Dude... he has no name, so we're just calling him Dude here... goes about normal life. You see him hanging out at school with his best friend and almost-girlfriend Tama. You see Dude and Tama being taunted by Tama's friends. Story: There isn't much of one, outside from Ebichu the house-keeping hamster making observations about her owner's sex life and making dirty jokes. There is a constant of her master dealing with being unmarried and her boyfriend being a useless, cheating bum... and there is the guy that is in love with Ebichu... but it's not really a plot, just how the characters interact with each other. Story: Satou is a total shut-in, a barely functional hikkimori. This is a stereotype that is being developed more and more into animes, partially because more and more of them are popping up in Japan in real life. NEETs, their abbreviation for not being employed or enrolled in school, (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), are a huge issue in Japan. Story: It starts off with six teenagers being inducted into a boy's juvenile prison around ten years after World War II in Japan. They join a guy who has already been there for two years and share his cell. After some initial hostility, they all become friends and together survive the extreme harshness of the juvenile school. Story: The story style changes a lot. The beginning of the show is almost episodic, while giving you glimpses of the the personalities of the main characters and their feelings towards one another. However, near the middle they take a dramatic turn towards something more plot-driven, and after that the story becomes more linear. Sorry, I can't write this without spoilers. I'm only ruining about half of the first episode, anyways. If you want the version without spoilers, here it is: AnoHana is about a group of friends who have lost touch over the years, and are brought together by a reunion with someone who knew them back when they were all close.
