On it's simplest level both Antique Bakery and Ristorante Paradiso are set in male-staffed eating establishments. Both series are relatively slow paced slice of life anime, that have moments of comedy and drama. If you liked that aspect of one then you are likely to enjoy the other.

Both anime feature an eating establishment, and they also take a look at the lives of the people who work there and the customers who eat there. Both anime have a similar tone and style.

kureshii kureshii says...

Ignoring similarities in story setups, both are short slice-of-life anime set up with the premise of offering insight into the lives of the characters involved, as well tracing their past and present.

If you've seen either one before while watching the other, you'll get rather strong vibes.

Kari5 Kari5 says...

Both these slows are slow slice of life anime centered in places where the cast cooks and serve food. They both have a strong male cast, and interesting relationships with customers. A fan of one will no doubt enjoy the other as well.

Similar atmosphere. Working with food. Target audience is female. There are many male characters in both series, so there are plenty of different characters to love.

Food and adults go together so well. Especially when there is drama surrounding them. Both anime have interesting art styles. Antique Bakery takes on a shounen-ai tone where Ristorante Paradiso takes on a younger woman going for a much older man. Both have plenty of romance and great drama. Check out one if you liked the other.

Both series have a similiar restaurant atmosphere and contain a vast array of appealing male characters.  The two characters, Eiji Kanda of Antique Bakery and Nicoletta of Ristorante Paradiso, both represent young struggling rookie chefs trying to achieve their place in the restaurant scene despite their lack of formal training.  While Antique Bakery emphasizes a shonen-ai tone and Ristorante Paradiso examines the relationship between an older man and a younger woman, both these series are very romance centered.  Also, the food portrayed in each of these series will make your mouth water!  If you are a fan of one, then you are sure to find the same enjoyment in the other.

Both of these shows feature the late-night life in the service industry. Whether it is a bartender who knows what you need to drink in the moment or a waiter who is easy on the eyes and knows your meal, these shows have it. They feature a mostly male cast and late 2000s animation with more muted colours. No real action to speak of as they are more drama or relaxing type shows.

What led me to Antique Bakery was my love for Bartender (one of my favorite anime).  The fact that both have that real world essence and have the element of dealing with humans on a real and individual basis is what is fantastic.  The thing about Bartender and Antique Bakery is you really do fall for the characters and their stories.  In Bartender it's on really a show by show basis with the main character,  Ryuu Sasakura being the main link.  In Antique Bakery it felt like each episode, though all characters there, was it's own story too.  I'd say that it still had an overall theme/storyline but they didn't just focus on that.  Overall if you like anime with a more modern drawing, a very real life theme, and that can take an individual away and have them anticipating the next episode these two are very well done and fit the bill.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

Both Antique Bakery and Bartender are slice of life series that are quite gentle in their overall tone. Though Bartender focuses more on the story of the customer than Antique Bakery, both involve the primary staff member selling their customer the ideal beverage/cake for their situation or tastes. If you enjoyed one then it is well worth trying the other.

JordanJas JordanJas says...

Bartender and Antique Bakery both feature a mostly adult male cast. You learn more about their backstories and the trauma that they posses, all while usually in their place of wook in the food industry. They want to serve their customers exactly what they want, even if the customer doesn't know what they want. They are filled with the typical drama that surrounds a bar and a cafe. Both have late 2000's animation and are easy enough to get through in a sitting or two.

Both Antique Bakery and Junjo Romantica deal with the subject of male couples, but they do it in a humorous yet sensitive way. The characters in both series have much more development than in many BL anime. There are also engaging back stories revealed throughout each series, which keep the plots interesting and build anticipation.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

Both series focus on relationships between men, including romantic relationships. However, both of these series have more character development and complexity to the story than is normally seen in shounen-ai and while there is more drama in Antique and more comedy in Junjou, if you enjoyed one then you may well enjoy the other.

Both Antique Bakery and Honey and Clover have a soft and relaxing tone most of the time. They are both character driven and give good insight into all the characters lives. Love and friendship are important themes in both.

Both of these anime seem to have some obvious connections; extremely slashable bishounens, a main character with a mysterious past, storylines along the lines of finding new friendships, etc. But even more than that the comedy is similar as well as how the story develops. If you like one then you'll definitely like the other.

Two very disprate shows will definitely appeal to the same type of fans. Nana had the dramatic feel of an over the top tv soap, whilst Antique Bakery spends little time on the shounen-ai and more on the development of friendships. If you like to sit back and enjoy two slower paced, emotional filled rides where you feel like you befriend the charming characters, then I highly recommend both of these shows to you.

Look look look! Another slice-of-life show about adults (there really aren't very many of these) doing their jobs. Antique Bakery and Hanamaru Kindergarden are relaxing series with comedy and threads of romance (that didn't go anywhere in either series).

Working!!

Working!!

Self-professed lover of all things small and cute, Souta Takanashi finds himself dragooned into working at the Wagnaria family restaurant by the diminutive and vivacious Poplar Taneshima. Though the pay is reasonable and the clientele polite, the high school student is often at his wits' end when dealing with the quirky staff. If the indifferent and street-tough manager, katana-carrying floor chief, and terminally weak Poplar weren't enough, Souta frequently fears for his life, as every encounter with the violently androphobic Inami ends in injury. How long can he survive before the combined stress and harm do him in?

Aside the shonen ai hints in Antique Bakery, both series are forcused in a familiar-like café store where the staff is, at the same time, comedic and life-like build. Laughs secured.

If you enjoy Antique Bakery, you will like the comedy on Working!! And, if you liked Working!! and you don't mind the male-male jokes, you will love Antique Bakery.

Antique Bakery isn't for everyone (hints of shounen-ai). BL aside, if you watched either of these shows to stare at beautiful animated pastries, or because you like a slower plot which is mostly happy but has darker elements, you might enjoy the other.

Both animes have a cutesy, fun feel to them while still having their serious situations and conflict to overcome. Also, of course, the obvious similarity additionally being that it's boy x boy (pg13)
