"In order to create a 30-minute anime, you need about 3,000 drawings.
Three... Thousand... It took so long just to draw one... This process, 3,000 times..." Giroro - Keroro Gunsou
Hi, I'm Cassie, and as clichéd as it sounds, I love anime. I am a recent graduate from a BA (Hons) Degree in Animation, so I love it when there are jokes in anime about the animation process, since I can sympathise with the time, effort and pure HELL that can go into creating an animated film. Although I am used to looking at animation and films critically, I am happy that I can switch off when watching anime and just watch, enjoy and revel in cheesy plotlines and silly humour.
I've been watching anime for a few years now, after a friend recommended Le Portrait de Petit Cossette to me. The first series that I ever truly adored was Kyou Kara Maou, which has remained my favourite anime series to this day. For me it was a series, that is not the best, but it just gripped me and I loved the fantasy element of it. Generally I tend to enjoy anime that has a lot of humour in it, whether it's the slice-of-life style humour such as Azumanga Daioh, random or insane humour such as Cromartie High school, or the darker style of comedy that can be seen in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. If something makes me laugh, I tend to be quite happy.
Even though I enjoy the comedy genre, I also tend to enjoy watching anime that is more serious, my favourite of the more serious series being Mushishi, which is, in my opinion the closest thing to a perfect series that I have seen, since the visuals and the score fit together perfectly to set the mood of the series plus it has storylines that remain gripping throughout. I also love the works of Studio Ghibli, my favourite of the films being Spirited Away. I adore the visual style of the Ghibli films and the sense of escapism that they provide.
Other than anime, I enjoy watching films, and playing games and I'm addicted to my computer - more or less I'm a typical geek. I am interested in cooking Japanese cuisine, so I've tried out a fair few recipes so far and I started to teach myself Japanese, though that has been put on hold a little recently since I was busy with my final year of uni. I have also recently taken up knitting, which has led to my friends teasing me for being like a little old lady. I'm very friendly and happy to make new friends, so feel free to say hello.
Anyway, I think that's about it for now *waves*

International Development - so stuff like Oxfam, Amnesty International, Concern, Red Cross, governmental organisations like IMF, United Nations (and its baby orgs like UNICEF), DFID... massive industry to help the poor whilst not quite giving up our very rich and privileged position. Lol. It's very difficult to get into the international side of it i.e. being the one to work on projects abroad, flitting around like a diplomat and doing the really powerful global stuff. Just recently i was looking at what was necessary to get into the international branch of UNICEF. Not only must I have a minimum of a Masters, I must also have about two years experience volunteering in a third world country AND speak fairly fluent Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French, or Spanish. It makes sense, but to have all those things takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and all while you're not actually earning.
Wanking bastards want to make you poor before you get into helping the poor. And if you start off poor like I am (good ol' black female single parent background really works, I recommend it!), you have no chance. I should have done Law, gotten into property, and fuck the poor and starving of the world. Oh man I sound bitter. But in all honesty, I cannot imagine myself doing anything else. If I can't work internationally, then I'll work with a UK based branch of the major NGOs (i.e. charities). I'm just too angry about politics and war to not want to add my effort to the fight. I can always start as an admin assistant and work my way up to something more concrete. I want to do a Masters at LSE but the minimum fees are 9k, so without a scholarship that's not possible. Lol.
Still, when you're passionate about something, it's not getting there alone that matters, but the journeya s well. And to be fair, I'm enjoying the fact that I have lots of years of opportunities to come. Just need to grab them. Same with you, I guess. Make the most of what you've got right now. We're all still young, right? Right???
Once you get into stop-time, please try and revive the good ol' movie days when you had rampaging dinosaurs and sea monsters made of clumpy clay chewing up little miniature humans. Now THAT was animation! Related to your bio, I recently discovered that to make Akira took over 160,000 drawings. I'm surprised the movie wasn't just stick drawings by the end - I'd have gotten lazy. Lol. Does it take roughly the same amount of frames to make a really good stop-time movie? Like Nightmare Before Christmas is superb and one of my favourites.. the pause button on their cameras must have been worn to death.
He's at Leeds Met. He's enjoying it a lot and likes his dept, I think. Doing his third year projects and stuff. He doesn't seem to have such major plans for his future either, although that's studentdom in general, no?
I wish you luck with getting into the media. In my view, anything worth going for is going to be difficult because they're usually the jobs that demand the most from you and offer the best rewards. I'm tyring to get into development and kinda stuck in purgatory wondering which route I should take. Trying a couple of different things, but can't take the next move until something specific happens. Lol. And BBC, eh? Great start indeed.
I was thinking about stop time animation on the bus todya. Is there much of an industry left? And where is it applied consistently these days? And does it mean much to you if I sing: 'This is Christmas, this is Christmas, falalala!!! It's ours this time!'
No???
Aaah. Right. I was wondering if some amazing AP coincidence might have just happened with you and my bf having gone to the same Uni. Lol. Alas, no. But awesome. Are you in the animation industry now or working your way there or just thought 'bugger it' and did something else?
And was it specifically cartoon animation you wanted to focus on?
Just a quick question. So where did you learn animation?
Really? Lol that's cute! >.< Keep on guarding that precious PC, Giroro!
Btw is "Kyo Kara Maho!" cool? You like that so much.. maybe i'll try to watch it too!
Hello there!Ok, now my sign is showing! Thank you very very much for helping me about that! ^__^
