The best part about Kimetsu no yaiba is action and engaging story with very good pacing, which keeps me wanting to go and watch the next episode. Action segments are well animated. I’m not fan of samurai and other Japanese history flavoured series, but this series is enjoyable nonetheless. If any issues, there are occasional plot holes and conveniences such as how the slayers know about the main daemon, if they never encountered him. How could main character randomly encounter him at one mission, but then the main daemon is shelved for the rest of the season. Why are there ghost disciples training MC? Why Tomioka didn’t kill Nezuko and many other out of character actions. What is the worst, when the main protagonist is joined by two other slayers including extremely annoying Zenitsu. The series is overall fun, but it does suffer from action shounen cliché characters and their respective traits. Starting with the MC, who is at least likeable, because he does try to use his brain, which can’t be said about Inosuke, who is typical muscle brain character. Zenitsu is cry-baby and horny kid, who is always quick to get infatuated by girls. For some reason he has sort of split personality, which can take over in fights. Nezuko is the mascot and eye candy of the series at least in the first half, but she can be quite an asset in fights. The fact she doesn’t eat humans is quite convenient. It would be more interesting if MC had to at least feed her with his blood occasionally to keep her alive or something. There is no actual pressure to find cure for her.

Overall, the series is good. It gets as violent and cruel as it feels it can go, while preserving shounen ideals without getting too dark. It’s very engaging and easy to get into series. Action is superb with breathing based power system for slayers. The daemon powers are anything goes type. It has good power progression without too much random power ups.
