Toradora!

Oct 11, 2009

Story/Plot:

This was surprisingly siimple and straight forward. There wasn't a lot of beating around the bush for the most part. It was cute, I laughed, I teared up, I got annoyed, there was a lot to this show and it was completely unexpected. The flow of the show as good, but it kind of dragged on in a few spots, still nothing major and I barely noticed it.

Animation:

There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the animation, but it wasn't particularly stunning or exceptional. I don't give points for pink/blue hair... then again, these are minor issues, for the most part the animation was fluid and pleasing to the eye.

Sound/Music:

Noting particluarly outstanding about it except they did a good job of setting the mood and keeping the soundtrack in step to the scene changes. The voice acting was great but I had a hard time getting another tsundere character out of my head whenever I heard her yelling. I'll leave her unnamed :P

Characters:

The characters were somewhat cliche and over used but I still loved them all. I don't think there was a single character I didn't like, well except maybe for that weird bird... Some of them didn't change much others changed drastically, at least those that really needed to change did.

Overall:

A rare case when the sum is greater than the parts. I really, really liked this show, it didn't have anything particularly oustanding about it other than it was just a really great package all together. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a decent show to fill their time with.

9/10 story
8/10 animation
9/10 sound
8/10 characters
10/10 overall

best love story ever told

I agree with most of your review except for the hair color part. Minorin's hair was red not pink. It's actually a natural hair color that is not necessarily common but I've seen people with it. I don't think the hair colors were what made each character distinct. Even if they had natural hair colors, they would all look different and I would have no trouble telling them apart. They had different eyes, facial structure, and figures.  They each had a very distinct look.

Otherwise, I agree. This was a straightforward show yet it was beautifully executed and that's what made it stand it out to me.

yep, fully aware the reasoning behind it and it's why I tend to deduct points for it. If you can't stray from the bishi angular faces and add some variety without the need to go with random rainbow colors for hair to distinguish between various side and main characters then there's something wrong with your abilities as an artist. Usually just means you're either A) Lazy, B) Untalented, or C) Need more practice.

truthfully it's a minor issue and the scope of the show as a whole was more than enough for me to disregard that one thing in favor of a good rating and enjoyment of the show in general.

I want to point out that the pink/blue hair was intended to make the characters distinct? Did you notice how Kitamura--clearly green haired--re-dyed his hair with black hair dye?

Otherwise, I'm basically of your opinion. ^_^
