Laid-Back Camp

Jan 21, 2021

SEASON 1 SPOILERS! BE WARNED. DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SEASON.

So I's been 6 days now that I've discovered the show, and one day later, I became a total fanboy (to the point where 3 days ago, I created my own Yuru Camp discord server). Also be warned that I am a HUGE Slice-of-life fanboy, so I WILL be biased, lol.

As soon as I saw that group picture scene I knew I was gonna have a good time with this anime. Then the (somewhat) infamous Lake Motosu theme that plays when Rin arrives at the camp. So peaceful that I felt what little stress I have literally melt away. And the moon overlooking Mt. Fuji scene at the end of episode 1 was nothing short of magical.

After episode 1 there was a perfect mix of peacefulness and pure fun. Whenever, Nadeshiko was involved, I could feel the fun, even coming from Rin who's not used camping with others. And when Rin camps solo, I can feel the utter peace she most likely feel (Well, except episode 10, of course, that was a spectacular mess, in a funny way)

The show made simple, mundane stuff like shopping for camping gear look fun.

The character were all great too. Even Nadeshiko, which usually would fall in my personal list of ''annoying little s**t'' but she dind't, mostly because her hyperactive nature goes in perfect contrast with Rin's calm personality.

Speaking of personality. I though this series would be just some chill camping trips with little story development. And while if you look at it like that, it does seem like there is no development, but when I reached episode 7, I realised something: Rin's own character development is how the story develop.

And let's not forget the absolute god-tier attention to detail. Every, single, places that you see in this anime exist for real, and for the most part, it was really accurate, even the roads where Rin passed through with her moped were shown accurately. Heck, even the two dogs she meet were actually there in real life during the show's production.

The animation is also pretty great. Obviously not on par with many more action-oriented anime, but still far better than what I expected for a simple anime like this.

And what add even more to the perfection? The sound! I could almost feel the heat from the crackling fire we hear in the show. And let's not forget the music. Oh god, the music. I already mentioned Lake Motosu theme near the begining, and to be honest, if I could, I'd talk about every single track of this anime. Usually, whenever I'm interested in an anime/game's music, there is always at least a couple tracks I dislike. But not with Yuru Camp. EVery single track were perfect. So perfect that I almost feel the anime was created with the music in mind, instead of the opposite. NO track whatsoever felt out of place.

Lastly, I think that ending after the credit on episode 12. I know we are getting a seaosn 2 as I type this, but if I didn't, this would have been a perfect ending regardless of if the show's creators decided to make a season 2 or not. It felt like the epilogue of a great story, but at the same time, it gave me that ''This is only the begining'' feeling.
