Nozaki-kun is back and the characters have been chibi-fied, at least for the intro and outro.

6 episodes broken into two parts yet best played as a chunk.

The first 3 episodes focus on torturing Waka. If you remember from the series Waka saw Seo and Kashima together at the festival, well the Special starts where that left off. Waka’s confusion is amplified by the lack of concern the other characters have for his question. They’re so wrapped up in their own heads they really don’t understand what Waka wants because no one is really paying attention to what he says. Also these  episodes introduce going to the beach and inviting people throughout the first trio.

The latter 3 episodes start with arriving at the beach as a group and delve back into the obliviousness of Nozaki towards Sakura. While the other characters are featured and their storylines from the series and the first set of eps are continued the main focus are the two m.c’s. 

There’s not a whole lot of meat to the Specials but as a continuation of the series its a 5/5. Additional plus is that while there’s still the how do I always fail to get his attention where I want it? adolescent angst, there’s also the fun of being surrounded by more than just the two characters and the focus on one could-be couple.

The one snag that makes this less enjoyable than it could be is the major downplay of the main title’s character, Nozaki has very limited screen time.

If you’ve watched the series this is definitely worth checking out.
