Dark Side Cat

Sep 3, 2019

Years before “Isle of Dogs” there was this.  In place of the canine social problem an abundance of stray cats were a mayor’s target.  Though this mayor doesn’t go as far as to cage them all up and send them off to die. In this story the kitties do as they please as the police fail time and time again to capture their leader, named by the humans, Dark Cat.  This bipedal, cape wearing feline has an insatiable hunger. Episode after episode he’s scarfing down human and cat food alike. Though the hunt for food is not the only thing happening in this anime... See full review

One Piece Film: Gold - Cine Mike Popcorn Kokuchi

Aug 16, 2019

Popcorn that tastes like corn. Buy some for a limited time.  That’s all this is about. Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper try some and are immediately hooked. It’s a quick little promotion for a product that probably appealed to those anticipating the film. Watching 3 years later doesn’t make one too hungry for the food but it might make you wish you’d known about it or to do some online searching for some near you. Luffy’s love of meat appears to be put aside for this treat which could make viewers wonder if there is more than just a corn flavor to the popcorn but without... See full review

Baka Baka Baka na Sekai

Aug 1, 2019

What you think you are seeing and what is really there are not the same. Once you see through the deception you won’t be the same. This short anime is a trip for the mind into absurd abstract insanity that may be organized chaos. War changes people before, during, and after. Those who know someone who returned from the tragedy of war know the person is a bit off. They have trouble not responding to a car backfiring, an alarm system, small round objects, movies with guns or other weapons etc. in an over exaggerated way. Sushi Police

Jul 30, 2019

“I don’t understand you.”  but I’m going to review you anyways. So this anime is all about protecting authentic sushi. Those tasked with the job encompass an advocate for the purity of fresh sushi, a robot, and a doctor/mechanic/scientist. Together these three respond to threats from around the globe: anywhere and everywhere sushi is being disrespected.  Mr .Advocate (Honda) can hear the cries of sushi in pain - those being paired with uncomplimentary sauces, those that have expired, those being frozen, subjected to a growth ray, etc. He directs the robot (Kawasaki)... Strawberry Marshmallow

Jul 25, 2019

So the premise of this show is for some no brainer entertainment. Seriously having a brain will probably hurt your opinion of this anime.  It’s a slice of life show where pretty much nothing interesting happens. It’s a day to day blah fest featuring siblings at war, a girl who’s a jerk to everyone, a college student obsessed with cigarettes who can’t get or hold a job, youngsters afraid of dogs, and money money money - where’s the money.  There’s no real plot but there is some continuity alongside the constant barrage of comedy - that may or may not appeal to... Kerorinpasu

Jul 16, 2019

I’m not sure this is much in the way of entertainment or meaning and the animation probably took someone five minutes but I suppose it has some value as reference material. Looking for an example of how to repeat the same action over and over and over and over again, have a simple color changing background and a somewhat late 80 early 90s look? Then this is for you.  A girl or possibly a guy - character has long hair but no discernable bumps or facial features that point one way or the other - jumps. Yep that’s all that happens.  One character. One movement. One color changes... See full review

Sword Art Online: Alicization

Jul 15, 2019

Currently the reviews for the third season of Sword Art Online are split yet straightforward. Basically if you are a fan of the first two you can expect to be let down by Alicization. If you are not, the season is the best so far and the anticipation of the continuation will be high.  -- Why Alicization is better than the first two seasons for this reviewer. Decreased Asuna screen time. Yep it is that simple. The introduction of Eugeo is one of the rare cases where an anime really does get better with a change-up to the main cast. Asuna picks fights with Kirito, doesn't plan ahead, thinks she's... See full review

He spends his days enthralled with the sport, cheering his father from the stands, making friends by spreading the love for the game, and training to follow his father into the big leagues. “Welcome hard days.” A tragedy early in the anime is downplayed and the pain is pushed aside. When you try and stand out or fit in are you ridiculed or idolized? A bit of both? This anime isn't all that clear on the answer. The main character is an elderly woman who has the word "fashion" repeated to her wherever she goes. Whether she's in fashion, out of it, or starting a new one is indeterminate. -- Does it really matter if someone starts wearing red earrings or a yellow dress. Does it matter if she’s worn the same earrings since she was a school girl or that the yellow dress doesn’t compliment her skin tone? Really it shouldn't. And yet there are 9 minutes and 47... Hana to Chou

Jun 3, 2019

Betty Boop butterflies sing and dance as they fly around from flower to flower greeting the inhabitants and getting refreshments for their efforts. -- This is from the 1950s so the animation is grainy, there are no subtitles, the story is simple, the running time is on the short side {9 minutes and 15 seconds), the credits are at the start of the video, and the music is cheary. The title is slightly misleading as it implies there is one butterfly and one flower when there are three of each. The characters are also not exactly as advertised/not your typical fauna or flora. Persona 3 the Movie Meets “Walkman”

May 15, 2019

... so this is a 15 second promotion. It opens with a snowy night pans to Makoto whoimmediately turns on a tune while the narrator tells you to watch the upcoming movie. Makoto simply stands on a rooftop with his headphones on and hits play.  As a promotion for a movie goes this is pretty lame. A full music video with some snapshots of what is to come - the movie - probably would have been a better way to go. There is little that stands out in it but if you like ads or just want something to real quick to watch give it a look. There could be something in the simplistic touch that appeals to you.

A woman {Agarerura} awakens with no recollection of anything. She wanders around until she encounters a creature out for blood. While fleeing she discovers she has battle experience. The end result is something pretty impressive visually. - The story works as a prologe for something that must have been scrapped.
