After hearing countless recommendations to read the manga, I was so excited when the anime was announced! And as I write this review, I can't help but smile even though it's over (for now). After meeting the most popular and beautiful girl in school Komi Shouko, Tadano Hitohito learns that she can't talk to people due to her social anxiety. And so, the anime follows Tadano and Komi as they work towards their goal of Komi having 100 friends. Featuring a unique and fun cast of characters, it's a quick, easy, and enjoyable watch!

Aside from the cast of hilarious side characters, the most memorable part of this anime is the very slow progression of Komi's level of comfortability. As the story continues, we see Komi make small steps towards being comfortable with not only herself and her condition, but with those around her. There wasn't a defining moment that suddenly changed Komi, but rather it was the constant support she received from her friends that empowered her. It was a very real depiction that lent to the impact the series had overall. I know that some people criticize the show's side characters for loving Komi without knowing anything about her, calling them fake. But in my opinion, they help show that people are more than what they struggle with and that they are deserving of friends despite their anxiety. Komi Can't Communicate shows that although things seem really scary, with friends by your side, you can face anything together!
