I also have a Tumblr under the same user name, GenXOtaku1971 where I try to stick to writing little essays or at least a few pithy paragraphs about the anime stuff I've been watching lately.
My original anime planet profile is under JJR1971 but I somehow got locked out of it, don't remember what Email address I used to create it in the first place. REALLY SUCKS because I created back in 2011 and have been building on it ever since.
Anyway, my MAL profile is more up-to-date anyway, so look me up there under JJR1971. I also have my OLD anime blog (that I still sometimes update, though not as often as Tumblr) under THAT user name over on Typepad.com
As my Username suggests, I'm a Gen Xer, in my late 40s as of this update. I grew up on Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets (bastardized Gatchaman) and Star Blazers (bastardized Space Battleship Yamato)...by the time ROBOTECH (aka Macross) made it to TV, I thought I was "too old" for anime.
Then I saw AKIRA my freshman year of college (1989) and it BLEW MY MIND. I knew I liked anime but I didn't watch it regularly until Cowboy Bebop aired on cable in the late 1990s. I was solidified as an anime fan circa 2004, watching Azumanga Daioh at Alamo Drafthouse West Oaks and have been a regular at Anime-at-the-Alamo ever since...stuck with 'em after the move to Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park and staying true through the present at Alamo Drafthouse La Centerra.
I prefer dubs but will watch subs when no dub is available. I used to go to Anime cons fairly religiously but now I pretty much stick to Delta H Con and Oni-Con down in Galveston. I boycott the shitshow that is Anime Matsuri Houston on ethical grounds. I wanted to go to RTX this year (2019) but due to an unexpected negative health event I couldn't go despite having gotten tickets and a hotel...which SUCKED. Well, maybe someday...
