"Origin" is a science fiction manga written and illustrated by Boichi, known for his ability to blend intense action with deep philosophical questions. The story is set in the near future, where technology and artificial intelligence have advanced significantly. It follows Origin, a highly advanced robot with a consciousness, who strives to understand humanity and his own existence while battling other robots posing threats to human society. Set against the backdrop of a technologically evolved Tokyo, "Origin" explores themes of identity, purpose, and the intersection of human and artificial life. The series is celebrated for its thought-provoking narrative, compelling character development, and stunning artwork.

Core Strengths

  • Philosophical Depth: "Origin" stands out for its exploration of complex themes such as the nature of consciousness, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and what it means to be human. These themes are woven seamlessly into the narrative, challenging readers to ponder alongside the characters.

  • Dynamic Characters: The protagonist, Origin, is particularly well-crafted, with a nuanced portrayal of his struggles and growth. His interactions with humans and other robots enrich the story, providing a multifaceted look at the world Boichi has created.

  • Artistic Excellence: Boichi's art in "Origin" is nothing short of spectacular, with detailed landscapes, dynamic action sequences, and expressive character designs that bring the futuristic setting to life. The visual storytelling enhances the impact of the narrative, drawing readers deeper into the world of "Origin."

Areas for Growth

  • Pacing and Complexity: While the intricate plot and philosophical undertones are strengths of "Origin," they can sometimes lead to pacing issues, with certain sections feeling dense or slow-moving. Balancing the story's complexity with momentum can be challenging but is crucial for maintaining reader engagement.

  • Character Balance: With a focus on Origin and a few key characters, there may be missed opportunities to explore the backstories and motivations of secondary characters more deeply. Expanding these aspects could provide a richer tapestry of perspectives and enhance the overall narrative depth.

Unique Undertakings

  • Technological Exploration: "Origin" offers a fascinating glimpse into a possible future, delving into the implications of advanced robotics and AI on society. The manga's portrayal of technology, both its potential and its perils, is thoughtfully executed, adding a layer of realism to the speculative setting.

  • Moral Ambiguities: The series excels in presenting moral dilemmas without clear-cut answers, particularly regarding the coexistence of humans and AI. These ambiguities mirror real-world debates about technology and ethics, making "Origin" timely and relevant.

Conclusion

"Origin" is a compelling and visually stunning exploration of artificial intelligence, humanity, and the search for identity, earning it's place for its deep philosophical questions, intricate storytelling, and breathtaking art. Boichi's work challenges readers to reflect on the future of technology and the essence of being human, making it a standout manga for those who appreciate science fiction with depth. While there are areas where pacing and character development could be refined, "Origin" remains an impactful and thought-provoking series that pushes the boundaries of the genre.

A rare case where the art is so stunning and captivating yet the plot is doing f*ck all. I adore when an artist puts so much work into the art. I digress this whole manga is eye candy to the maxxxx but the concept cannot be the full driving force of the plot. The main protagonist is a robo-man with the goal of "living properly" and other robo-men want to get him. THe plot lacks reasoning for the main characters actions and the antagonists doings. Noone has reason to act the way they act. In that regard the author might be a robot himself  because most characters are one dimensional or ununderstandable. It's like a pretty lookin' overcooked omlette, it looks great but when you taste it you wish that you had only looked.

the story of this manga is top notch and it is written by boichi who gave us some pretty awesome mangas like doctor stone, sun ken rock and hotel. the art is also good as usual and fight scenes really pack a punch. the best thing i like about this manga is the personality of the main character, he is a robot but he tries to mix up with humans which leads up to some really funny moments. the pacing is also good and side characters are also written very well.
