Diamond Life

Kanae dropped out of high school, because her father is a gambler while her mother ran away with her boyfriend. Kanae is twenty-two years old, and very poor working for a cleaning shop. She comes to have something to do with Haruki Oda quite by chance. Haruki is an IT millionaire and called "money-mad man," or "the god of death." Then Kanae's life makes a sudden development. Money cannot be made by love alone, though love cannot be bought with money. People of today want to have both love and money.

This manga is exceptional. It deals with an extremely heavy subject masterfully and even manages to have really funny scenes as well as a happy ending which is difficult given the weight of the main subject covered in this romance. Don't let the first few chapters fool you. This is not simply a love story between a big business owner and a poor girl. I don't want to spoil too much and that makes this manga extremely hard to review. However, don't for a min. think this is just your typical rich guy + poor girl love story. This story is truly one about love and living life to it's fullest regardless of difficult circumstances. One of the best things about this story is that the information given about the main issue is accurate and allows to take some of the stigma away from that issue, since there is so much misinformation about this spicific issue that makes many people scared, its awesome to find it being used seriously in a manga with a extremly well put together love story.  The art in this manga is a bit above average for the typical romance manga. I have no complaints about it at all. Though nothing truly stands out as exceptional, it is still done in a great way and manages to capture the feelings and scenes extremely well. The characters in this manga are very real. Their personalities, issues and concerns are well explained. There is simply nothing I can say bad about any of the characters in this manga, with the exception of the main girls father, and though his character is unlikable because of his personality and issues, he is still created very realisticly and changes for the better over time. The true depth of the male main character is not seen right away and you probably will think he is a jerk... but there are real good reasons behind the way he acts and his internal struggle with depression. After you finally understand the weight of what he is truly dealing with you will sympathize with him and he will probably become a character you will like just as much as the female main character. This guy is exremely smart and can be very sweet later on in the story especially. I usually complain heavily about the female character in anime and manga. Very few of them really live up to the standards I expect. I dislike shallow, airheaded, and selfish female characters. However, this girl has none of these characteristics. She is hard working, understanding, has morals, and resolve. She is an exceptional character, perhaps my all time favorite female character. She has pride even while poor and having real issues, she won't take the easy way out. She has tons of inner strength and beauty. I cannot really compare her to any other character. She is unique by manga standards and honestly, a role model to look up to.  Overall I would suggest this manga to anyone who likes romance. However, in all honesty, I think it would be a good experience for everyone to read. Seriously.
