His dark past doesn't really excuse him from being a pedophile. Take heinous criminals for example, they must have reasons (most likely childhood trauma/ bad parenting) for committing heinous crimes, but we still don't excuse their acts right? Same goes for Rudy. His sob story doesn't give him the right to assault a SLEEPING CHILD for ducks sake. I can only TOLERATE his actions to the extent of him getting attracted to minors, but touching a child's private parts without consent is a big NO.
